Date night tonight - would one drink be ok?

Just curious to see what answers I get for this one.
So I am having a very rare date night with the husband due to having a toddler and the lack of babysitting help/ support we get. Currently 32 weeks pregnant, yes very uncomfortable and very big at this stage but really looking forward to our meal! We have so much to celebrate and we haven’t really had the chance to :(

Would having one alcoholic drink be ok to have with my meal, but something like a cocktail? I would kill for a frozen strawberry daiquiri.

Oh it’s fine
I had a Prosecco the other day and I’m going into my third trimester

Mrsttcno1 · 23/05/2025 18:32

There is no safe level of alcohol consumption during pregnancy, all of your “celebrations” can wait another 8 weeks.

TheDreamyOtter · 23/05/2025 18:33

One is fine I'm sure. Though does a strawberry daiquiri really taste that different with no booze in it?

SheridansPortSalut · 23/05/2025 18:33

No.

jotex · 23/05/2025 18:33

Have a mocktail.

gokartdillydilly · 23/05/2025 18:33

Yes

samarrange · 23/05/2025 18:34

You will be fine. Foetal alcohol syndrome requires a long and sustained pattern of drinking. Live a little. (Yes, there is no safe amount of alcohol in pregnancy. But there is no safe level of alcohol outside pregnancy either.)

babystarsandmoon · 23/05/2025 18:35

No, I don’t think it’s OK.

I thought many places wouldn’t serve pregnant women alcohol.

WashableVelvet · 23/05/2025 18:36

I had an occasional glass of wine. I found Emily Oster’s book ‘Expecting Better’ useful for things like this plus other risks (caffeine, fish, cheese, toxoplasmosis etc). On some things it made me more cautious than the guidance and on other things it made me more relaxed.

GroovyChick87 · 23/05/2025 18:36

I personally would not. Although one drink is unlikely to cause any harm I don't think it's worth the guilt and worry I'd inevitably feel after. Refraining from drinking alcohol for another few weeks is a small price to pay for knowing you did your best for your unborn baby. I wouldn't see the point in one drink either, if you're not going to drink enough to get the buzz from the alcohol then you may as well have a mocktail.

KarolKickie · 23/05/2025 18:37

One is fine, tho not if you will feel bad about it after.

333FionaG · 23/05/2025 18:37

You know the majority of people will say don’t do it. A mocktail will taste the same. You don’t know if one strawberry daiquiri will trigger an urge to drink another and then another.

That would be illegal discrimination under the equality act.

Legal to refuse on the grounds that she’s already drunk. Not legal to refuse on the grounds that she’s pregnant. It’s not for bars to decide moral values for their punters.

Enjoy OP.

I used to drink Indian pale ale when I was pregnant.....my son is now 19 and taller than me!! Didn't do him any harm. Have a fantastic time tonight 😊

whoisit1234 · 23/05/2025 18:39

I would, I’m 39 weeks pregnant and haven’t drank at all through pregnancy as just haven’t wanted to, but the odd drink won’t do any harm

cherrymaoam · 23/05/2025 18:42

It will be absolutely fine. Get a long drink that you can sip slowly (white wine spritzer or similar) and have it with food. Enjoy!

user2848502016 · 23/05/2025 18:43

Yes one drink at 32 weeks is fine

my MIL was advised to chug Guinness. She’s normally teetotal. Think it was a thing back then

pinkfloralcurtains · 23/05/2025 18:43

In my last trimester I had a very, very occasional single glass of champagne or very good red wine. Oddly the only person who gave me side eye was a French waiter when I assumed many French women drank a little in pregnancy!

There’s no safe levels of drinking in pregnancy because it’s highly unethical to run a study on it. Safe levels of most things in pregnancy are based on population observations.

Cityofangels25 · 23/05/2025 18:44

It’s selfish just wait a few weeks

CheeseyOnionPie · 23/05/2025 18:45

I personally wouldn’t but it’s up to you, it’s your baby.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 23/05/2025 18:46

I wouldn’t. Although unlikely to cause any problems you’d never forgive yourself if it did.

shellyleppard · 23/05/2025 18:46

@OldGothsFadeToGrey couldn't stand Guinness lol

CuriousKangaroo · 23/05/2025 18:46

One drink is fine. The guidance says zero solely because it’s easier for public health messaging.

GreatTheCat · 23/05/2025 18:47

I drank a vodka and coke at my friends hen party. It was 23 years ago!
