How soon after my baby's born is it okay to take it out? How soon after can my partner take it out? Not on a trek but for a stroll...?

Thanks
MM

as soon as you feel ready!push and be proud x

We took ds out for a stroll on day 3. Providing lo is healthy there's no problem. Enjoy the attention!

StressTeddy · 05/05/2008 19:44

as soon as you like and feel confident to.
You might just want to go around the block first
You'll be amazed at the things you notice that you didn'y before - uneven pathways, fumes from cars etc
Have fun and take it as fast or as slow as you want to
Congrats

Don't know if there is an official rule on this but my DD was born term and we went for a waltz round the block in the new pram after a week. I think it might be longer for prem babies but not sure.

peggotty · 05/05/2008 19:44

As soon as you like! Don't think there's any 'rule' to say you have to keep them in x amount of days.

avenanap · 05/05/2008 19:44

ds was 3 days old, I needed to go to uni and get a cheque. It was agony. Stitches, not a good idea!

cheesesarnie · 05/05/2008 19:45

Thanks very much - makes sense. None of my pregnancy books tell me that kind of thing about afterwards!

Bubble due any day now so we're just stocking up on food and dp wanted to know when he'll be able to use the new pram!

As soon as you like! We walked round the garden withour DS when he was about 9 hours old We were in John Lewis buying nursing bras the next day.

maxbear · 05/05/2008 21:06

I resisted the temptation to go out the day dd was born and held off until the next day! Mind you I left the hospital a few hours after the birth, but that was in the car not the pram.

onepieceoflollipop · 05/05/2008 21:07

We took dd1 to see the ducks at 3 days old. She was seriously unimpressed.

sweetkitty · 05/05/2008 21:09

DD2 born 4am on the Thursday at home, took her out 9am Friday morning for her check up at the hospital and then we went round Asda for a few bits - well DP decided to buy a new TV for the bedroom and it didn't fit in the car so he had to get a taxi back and I drove - men eh?!

MIL said that in her day you weren't "allowed" to take babies out until they were christened so you were in hospital for 10 days then straight home and stayed there for at least a week.

Thomcat · 05/05/2008 21:09

Hi monkey.

Another one who went out straight away.

DD1 was born in a hospital and we stopped at Tesco on the way home and had friends over for drinks that night and it never really stopped.

DD2 - can't remember

DD3 - the next day, - we went to TK max after the school run and then viewed a couple of houses!

stuffitall · 05/05/2008 21:13
