How soon after my baby's born is it okay to take it out? How soon after can my partner take it out? Not on a trek but for a stroll...?

Thanks
MM

had to giggle, how soon can I take my baby out on the Pregnancy board,

round the due date I would suspect

I was told to stay in bed first week, on the bed 2nd week and around the bed 3rd week, so the baby did not see the door till the 4th week. Though you are getting Summer temps now in England so you can be less protective about new borns outside.

I do think it depends on what sort of birth you had with DD2 I felt so brilliant after the birth compared to being pregnant, the SPD went immediately and I could walk properly for the first time in months and getting that huge bump off I was on cloud 9.

I do think you must take it very easy after the birth though and a 10 minute stroll around the bloke with new baby and new pram should be fine. Housework is completely banned though.

MrsTittleMouse · 06/05/2008 08:29

I can't remember how young DD was when I first took her out, but I can remember being in Starbucks and everyone coming up to us and being really excited that her age was still measured in days (11 days, I think). I didn't have any disapproval at all.

However themildmanneredjanitor is right, and I would highly recommend that you take it easy. I felt so much better after giving birth due to the SPD and pregnancy-hormone-exhaustion going away that I completely over did it. It didn't help that all my relatives were really excited to see me up and my old self again and thought that it was a really good sign that I was out of bed and dressed and doing stuff. A fortnight after giving birth I crashed and was completely wiped out. It makes sense really, I had had a very tiring delivery and lost a lot of blood, and I was up in the night breastfeeding constantly. What was I thinking?!? Things will be Very Different this time around and DH has already talked about a fortnight in bed with him waiting on me and taking care of DD1.

LOL stuffitall, I went to Sainsburys on the way home from the hospital but I left dd in the car with DH. I felt really pleased that people seemed to be able to tell from looking at me that I'd had a baby... then I realised I was still wearing my hospital wristband, slippers and one strap of my nursing bra had undone and my left nork was sagging!

LookingForwardToSummer · 06/05/2008 11:53

eyeballs - LOL!

monkey - echo the others on not pushing yourself. i felt i really should try to get 'out and about' asap - big mistake, i'm sure it just meant i took longer to recover. with hindsight i should have let dh take dd out and rest myself. next time i'll stay in pjs for a fortnight!

Gosh, sorry to hijack, but let's hear more about the Shoshe/Megglevache coincidence!

charlotte121 · 06/05/2008 17:57

Remember not to over do it!!! You will have just had a baby and ur body try's to trick you... i started going out showing ds off to everyone the day after i had him and exhausted myself so much so it pretty much meant i had to stop breast feeding and let dad take over...(tee he he with a bottle. he didnt breast feed ) was also not a good idea. I had a third degree tear and after a day of rushing around i was curled up on the floor in agony... how stupid i was!!! let the people come to you with food and gifts and only go out for a short amount of time when you feel ready. you can build it up a little each time. char x

monkeysmama · 07/05/2008 17:50

Thanks for all the posts ladies. It is good to get a balanced idea of what might happen - if how tired I feel now is anything to go by I won't be shopping hours after the birth but I am glad I won't now be afraid to if I feel up to it.

Thanks again
MM
