Pull out method

Hi,

We've been using the pull out method now for over a year with no pregnancies. I completely understand this method is silly if you really don't want a baby. We're using this method with "if it happens it happens & we'd be happy"

I'm curious to know has any of you actually got pregnant from this? Can you remember if your partner ejaculated in you or was it a complete shock as partner definitely pulled out?

Even if someone 'definitely pulls out' this still doesn't mean a pregnancy wont happen, it isn't a reliable source of contraception at all, so I can't see how anyone would be shocked by a positive test if this is your 'contraception'

Jabbabong · 10/12/2024 15:28

I think you tend only to get pregnant from the 'forgot to pull out method' or the 'some dribbled out of the end before he finished properly method'

Otto223 · 10/12/2024 16:25

We used the method for over a year. Didn’t fall pregnant. One night he didn’t pull out and - bam I was pregnant.

Did it for 3.5 years and didn't get pregnant and that's with pulling out during my fertile window only!

StormingNorman · 10/12/2024 16:37

Your post reads like you want an accident???

BibbityBobbityToo · 10/12/2024 16:41

It's like the problem page in More magazine!

Justcallmebebes · 10/12/2024 16:42

My parents did. With me

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 10/12/2024 16:55

My 35 year old friend got pregnant this way 2.5 years ago

J86579 · 10/12/2024 16:59

4 years for us without pregnancy, got pregnant immediately twice when not pulling out (planned). Whether it’s effective or not depends on pulling out in time AND whether the man has sperm in the precum. Not everyone does, but if yes then pulling out in time won’t help.

TheWalkingEyebag · 10/12/2024 17:05

Oh yes! My current pregnancy is the result of pull and pray. We had been doing it successfully for 5 years and the only pregnancy we had was our planned one. We were going to start trying for number 2 soon anyway so we were thrilled with our little surprise (we both hated the pressure of TTC before 😂)

Isn't this the second thread of the day on this exact topic?

Nodlikeyouwerelistening · 10/12/2024 17:21

In theory it’s safe as long as you abstain or use additional protection during your fertile window. But as we know from countless threads on here, ovulation isn’t always very predictable and you can get your fertile window wrong.

Definitely not.

I just was thinking earlier how lucky we managed a year without contraception and I'm not pregnant. Saying we have sex almost everyday.

This is odd. You either want to avoid a baby or you want to conceive??? I don’t get it OP which is it

behumbIe · 10/12/2024 18:21

@Nc546888 odd?

Don't want a baby right now?

OP posts:
ginasevern · 10/12/2024 18:39

It is not a reliable form of contraception if you don't want a baby. If you definitely do not want to get pregnant inserting a penis without a condom or other forms of proper contraceptive can, and frequently does, result in pregnancy - but that's pretty obvious really.

Lulu89x · 10/12/2024 18:42

What is with all of the judgement on this thread?! She didn't ask for peoples opinions on whether you think it's reliable or not?!

Her post CLEARLY states "We're using this method with "if it happens it happens & we'd be happy" which I understood as they aren't actively trying for a baby but if it does happen, they'll be happy.

BrendaSmall · 10/12/2024 18:43

Yes I’ve used that method!
very unreliable!
My child was 13 weeks old when I got pregnant again 🫢
if you don’t want to get pregnant then use a reliable contraceptive!

Quote from planned parenthood -

The better you are about using the pull out method correctly — keeping any ejaculation (cum) away from the vulva and vagina every single time you have sex — the better it will work to prevent pregnancy. For every 100 people who use the pull out method perfectly, 4 will get pregnant.

But pulling out can be difficult to do perfectly. So in real life, about 22 out of 100 people who use withdrawal get pregnant every year — that’s about 1 in 5.

MintyFreshest · 10/12/2024 18:51

Yes we foolishly did this and got away with it for ages until we didn't....

I had a termination, he had a vasectomy.

Pallisers · 10/12/2024 19:01

yeah we used it in similar circumstances - definitely wanted another one just not quite yet. It worked for a few months and then it didn't - but that was fine. After that baby I got an iud!

SallyWD · 10/12/2024 19:04

I'm going to sound incredibly irresponsible but DH and I have been using the pull out method for over 20 years and have never had an accident. The only times I've got pregnant were when we were trying to conceive.
