So just to start this of this is for no other reason except general curiosity. Just pretty confused that’s all.
i went for a dating scan that showed I was 11 weeks and 2 days pregnant on the 12th of June this year then I had my 12 week scan a week later and both said my due date is the 30th of December this year.
now my dilemma here is I had sex on the 10th of April and that’s the only time I had sex in like the space of a month so that’s my only possible date I could of got pregnant. but everything I put in on conception calculators and everything come up with the 8th of April or earlier then that. So what I got pregnant from thin air apparently?? Haha just doesn’t add up to me. I have pcos and an irregular cycle so no idea when my last period was around that time.

The scans aren’t that accurate, you are talking about millimetres in difference. The sonographers take several measurements but it’s still not 100% accurate.

I was testing of ovulation, peeing on a stick 3 times a day, and went for my 12 week scan when I should have been 12 weeks exactly. The scan put me at 13 weeks exactly, which was impossible due to when I had had sex.

It only really becomes an issue if you go overdue. I just made sure to push back on induction until I was 42 weeks by their dates as I was only 41 by mine.

DelilahBucket · 09/12/2024 12:01

In some countries they don't give you a specific due date, they estimate it within a four week window, the theory being that should roughly cover 38-42 weeks. I wouldn't worry about two days, baby will come when they want to anyway.

Sammie9212 · 09/12/2024 12:01

Is the 10th of April even a possible date to have sex though if the due date is the 30th of December??

Remember you have to take things like how long it takes to implant into consideration, as well as the fact that at the 12 weeks scan they’re measuring based on averages; your baby might have only ACTUALLY been 11 weeks but measuring at the average size of a 12 week foetus and so you’d be deemed a week further along.

If it helps, with my first pregnancy the hospital had me as being due on the 19th and I had myself due as the 25th, and baby arrived on the 24th!

Sammie9212 · 09/12/2024 12:05

I know but they said 11 weeks 2 days then when I went a week later to my 12 week scan they said that was bang on and I’ve always measured accurately around that time since in later scans as well so confusing

OP posts:
Craftymam · 09/12/2024 12:06

The difference between 8th and 10th is 48 hours!

That’s pretty accurate no?

Im not getting the issue.

retrievermum · 09/12/2024 12:09

There is always a margin of error as well; with my current pregnancy I had several NHS scans as well as a private scan pre 12 weeks, and got given due dates of 30th January, and then 1st, 4th and 6th of February. A lot can depend on the position of the baby as well as the specific sonographer.

Also, it’s very rare for a baby to arrive on their actual due date! If anyone asks me, I declare that the baby is due “early February” because realistically, that’s when they’ll arrive. There’s no point telling everyone it’ll be born on 1st Feb (my official NHS due date) because it probably won’t be. Try not to get too hung up on it.

Sammie9212 · 09/12/2024 12:24

That’s the thing though they’ve always been bang on with my due date every single scan I’ve had my 2 early ones dating and 12 week were the same and the ones further on then that have all gave them measurements for 30th dec

OP posts:
retrievermum · 09/12/2024 12:26

All that means is that baby is measuring consistently, which is great! They’re growing at the perfect rate and following their line; it still had no bearing on when they’ll actually arrive or when they were actually conceived

Sammie9212 · 09/12/2024 12:28

So would you say my due date is most likely 2 days out cause that’s what it seems like to me?

OP posts:
retrievermum · 09/12/2024 12:37

Quite possibly, but please don’t get too hung up on it as it can be very disheartening if you convince yourself baby will arrive on whatever day and then they don’t!

Sammie9212 · 09/12/2024 12:38

I’d just like to know if the dates are at all possible like if I conceived on the 10th of April which is the only day I could have is it possible that my due date is 30th of December and their correct or does it seem to far out to be that due date

OP posts:
Sammie9212 · 09/12/2024 12:45

And the sonographers always told me that babies around 12 weeks and up to 12 weeks always grow at the same rate as each other?

OP posts:
Sammie9212 · 09/12/2024 13:06

Please anyone??

Notthebeard · 09/12/2024 13:24

It’s completely possible to have sex on the 10th and have a due date on the 30th. The scans are not 100% accurate and you are talking millimetres difference.

Id you are concerned about having had sex earlier with a different partner and not sure who the father is, it’s too close to say, you would need a DNA test

StampOnTheGround · 09/12/2024 13:26

I'm confused, it's literally 48 hours later not like a month later - clearly it's possible.

Notthebeard · 09/12/2024 13:27

Also, on my due date group everyone was put forward or back a few days on the 12 week scan and quite a few in moved by 5 days+. It’s really very normal

Sammie9212 · 09/12/2024 13:27

I haven’t had sex with another partner I feel physically sick at the idea of anyone even thinking that I’m just an overthinker and when I get questions like this into my head it’s hard to let it go till I know the answer I suffer from severe mental health so sorry for asking

You got pregnant on the 10th April as you have said, that's not debatable because it was the only day you had sex. Your due date is 30th December as you know. Nothing else matters. You also have irregular cycles and PCOS which effects every date and measurement. Every calculation of 'due date' is known as EDD - meaning ESTIMATED date of delivery. They estimate based on your 12 (ish) week scan when baby will be due.

Then comes the scans. Every single scan you have is also an estimate. Your 12 week scan said 12 weeks because your baby measured 12 weeks on that exact day, and has grown appropriately since then. The same way two different 1 year old babies don't have the exact same measurements, neither do fetuses. So a day or a millimetre here or there means literally nothing. I would hazard a guess that it would be near impossible to find a woman who's exact date of conception matches exact EDD because so much influences when the egg fertilised, travels to your uterus and implants. This is normal and dates are not changed based on a matter of days. The 12 week scan is the most accurate way of determining EDD. I hope that helps?

Notthebeard · 09/12/2024 13:39

Sorry, didn’t mean to offend. It’s just that is the common reason people get stressed about their due dates not matching up.

Sammie9212 · 09/12/2024 13:40

No I’m just genuinely confused I put my conception date into the conception calculators online which is 10th of April I get 1st of January as a due date then obviously I put my due date in and it gives me the 8th of April or earlier then that for conception

OP posts:
SnowSnow · 09/12/2024 13:42

My due date was moved and it would have meant I conceived before I had had sex that cycle. However my little boy is now one and is very very tall so it was simply he was long and they used the length as part of working out due date

A conception calculator online also isn't accurate. There's nothing set in stone with fertility or pregnancy. It always differs by a few days here and there for different people for a number of reasons, some I've listed above. Don't stress out thinking about it, it's normal 😊

SwedishHills · 09/12/2024 13:44

In the nicest way as long as your baby is growing as expected does it matter?

As others have said it's 48 hours so definitely possible, and the fact you are pregnant doubles down on the fact it's possible.
