I'm probably not going to tell my boss until after mid-late January if I can wait that long. Work will need a lot of notice to decide how to cover my role, and I think it'll help having some understanding of potential time off if/when needed. There's also probably solo working/risk assessments to factor in from late January too.

It's not a conversation I'm looking forward to having since my boss shared that she found out she couldn't have kids when she was younger. And I suspect she'll have to pass the news up the chain straight away, and word will spread faster than I'd like... nature of my role/department.

Overall I'm expecting some underlying nervousness from work and probably a lot of extra work to be done before maternity leave kicks in too. But I hope I'm over thinking it and someone will be excited for me!

TannerJames11 · 09/12/2024 20:09

I’m also leaving it late to tell work, a promotion is coming up in the new year and I can’t risk telling them before I know the outcome, luckily I work remotely so it shouldn’t be too hard to keep it quiet ! Between the tiredness and the stomach cramps I’m ready for the second trimester now haha, I wanna know this bean is stuck and not going anywhere :)

Chie1999 · 09/12/2024 20:36

In my job I'm half and half between site visits and office/remote work. I'm finding it a bit hard to tell work maybe I will do so late January beginning of February. My job when I'm on site I climb fences and walk climbing embankments so it gets so exhausting. I know they will have to do a risk assessment but I don't want people looking at me differently when I announce that I'm pregnant 😅.

Also I have my early scan booked for the 23rd of December and my booking appointment on the 27th of December, I hope it will be great news

HB92 · 09/12/2024 20:39

Hello all! Very tentatively joining - had a BFP 10 days ago, I am 5+4 today and suuuuper anxious. 1st timer, 2nd month TTC after having a MC at 5+2 first month. Have just booked a private scan for the 23rd. Line progression looks good. So nice seeing others in the same boat 🚤

Workingmammabear · 09/12/2024 21:11

I'm thinking of telling work soon(ISH) I've only got 8 working days until I finish for Xmas but am feeling so tired and nauseous all the time I feel like I have to say something. I'm 6w 6 days. If anyone has any remedies for morning sickness beyond ginger and cyclizine please share with me!

Emelene · 09/12/2024 21:32

I’ve told my work (NHS) as I had the days off for my EPU scan and wanted it counted as pregnancy related, as it counts differently to “regular” illness. Otherwise I wouldn’t have yet. I’ll have a risk assessment at some point but I’m expecting to hopefully carry on as normal for a while!

I’m tired at the moment though. And vomited this morning (6+3) for the first time. I was never sick with my older two so it caught me by surprise. 😬

OneGladTiger · 09/12/2024 22:01

Has anybody had a pregnancy before where they have hardly any symptoms but turned out fine? I’m 6+1 today and my lack of anything is starting to worry me a bit. I have a private scan next Sunday so I know I should get an answer then but it’s hard to shake this anxious feeling! My only symptom is bloating/indigestion. My tests are still dark but did start out very faint. I’m finding myself holding back a bit now about getting ‘attached’ in case I’m going to get bad news. My heart rate dropped a few beats yesterday for the first time since testing positive. Hopefully somebody can put my mind at ease, it’s an anxious time these early weeks!

HereWeGoAgainBaby6 · 09/12/2024 22:08

@Boymum3722 i've changed my username to something more suited on my situation 😂 but thank-you for your reply.. i tested 2-3 this morning so took 7 days overall, must of conceived at last minute possible! 🤦🏻‍♀️ 🤣

Boymum3722 · 09/12/2024 22:08

@Attheyard I travelled a lot with my son in his first year of life. I didn’t do long haul until he was 10 months, but, I was back and forth to Europe and up and down the county many times (we drove from the very south of England to Edinburgh when my son was 3.5 weeks for a wedding, after I had a c section). It’s individual preference, if you want to do it you can. I would just be mindful of what the others have said about your health and whether you’d be in pain or uncomfortable and double check travel insurance etc.

Completely sympathise with your situation working for a US company - I have colleagues in the US and they can’t believe the allowances we have here in the UK. Def hold out until March if you can for peace of mind!

Boymum3722 · 09/12/2024 22:09

@HereWeGoAgainBaby6 ahh so happy it’s changed! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 those digitals are buggers 😂

HereWeGoAgainBaby6 · 09/12/2024 22:12

@Moosey898 its nice to see you on here!.. as im sure you was on another due date thread possibly lastyear(Due February 2024) if i remember rightly? with the previous username 'Moosey89'? thats if you are the same person.. would be embarrased if you wasn't 😬 lol x

HereWeGoAgainBaby6 · 09/12/2024 22:14

@Boymum3722 how far along are you hun? when are you due?

Boymum3722 · 09/12/2024 22:17

@HereWeGoAgainBaby6 I’m 5+5 and due 7/8. When are you due? I’ve had 2 MCs this year so have a scan with EPU on Friday so 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

HereWeGoAgainBaby6 · 09/12/2024 22:24

@OneGladTiger just want to reassure you that, yes in the early weeks of pregnancy i didn't have hardly any symptoms apart from the constant indigestion! 🤣 which infact was due to our one & only little girl who was born begining of this year in February 🥰 so try not to worry too much about hardly having any symptoms as it is still early days.. also just to make you aware later as my pregnancy continued further, out of nowhere i felt really angry, like i would go into a rage over the slightest thing - mainly my partner was a trigger 😂 (must be because i was carrying a girl as they say 'double the hormones') any annoying noise he would make, would just make me want to 👊🏼 him 1! 🤦🏻‍♀️ haha! x

OneGladTiger · 09/12/2024 22:28

@HereWeGoAgainBaby6 aw thank you for that 💖 congrats on your baby girl!

HereWeGoAgainBaby6 · 09/12/2024 22:28

@Boymum3722 n'awww 🥰 and im due on 15th. well hopefully all will go well for you 🤞🏼 i fully understand the anxiety and constant knicker checking 🤦🏻‍♀️ as i too have had 3 recurrent misscarriages (secondary infertility) so i have our first scan at the recurrent misscarriage clinic on 27th December when i should be 7weeks! x

JenRi · 09/12/2024 22:28

Hello all!
We got our BFP on Friday (6/12), I think it was what you call a dye stealer as control line was really faint compared to test line. Due date is 05/08/24 on NHS calculator

We've been trying 4 years, primary infertility and one cycle of unsuccessful IVF in summer. Were waiting to start our second cycle of IVF but period just didn't come in time for cut-off before Christmas. I have irregular cycles so didn't test until day 39 and only on the off chance because I had work Christmas party that evening. I had spent the week telling myself I'd no reason to expect to be pregnant as I'd tested close to 40 days many times before and only got negative results. Couldn't believe test was positive I spent Friday in a daze thinking I must have hallucinated the positive test.

I didn't have any other tests in house so ordered some CB digital tests and got 2-3 weeks on Saturday (second wee of day) and 3+ weeks on Sunday (first wee of day). According to LMP I'll be exactly 6 weeks tomorrow but as I track everything I know we last DTD on day 20 so expect fetal age is more like 5 weeks but we'll see.

I'm surprisingly calm, DOH is another story. Just a bit concerned about ectopic pregnancy as my fertility Dr. told me there was definitely an 'egg issue' as at egg retrieval my eggs were really hard to wash out of the follicles.

Before I knew I was pregnant I was really tired and had experienced some nausea after eating but thought it was just stress. I have been very headachey over the weekend and have had intermittent stomach ache, sometimes more to one side but it changes sides and doesn't last long so think is probably fine. I'm also very very thirsty! And hungry in the mornings which is v.unusual for me!

Sorry for such a long first post - I look forward to being on this journey with you all 🙂

Boymum3722 · 09/12/2024 22:34

Congratulations @JenRi - a little miracle. Keeping everything crossed for you 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 and really great news that you got a dye stealer that’s really good signs. From what I’ve read, ectopic lines stay lighter in comparison so I’m really hopeful for you. X

Boymum3722 · 09/12/2024 22:37

@HereWeGoAgainBaby6 thank you 🙏🏼 feels like the time is dragging to get to it! I was really lucky and had a great gp who referred me for all the tests they’d typically do after 3 MCs even though I’d only had two he said “let’s just get the ball rolling shall we?” - I also went private after this and she said she would have done all the same things as my gp had and sent him a letter to thank him for being so thorough. All my investigations came back fine so they think it was random but unfortunate that it happened twice in a row. This time def feels different and I’ve got progesterone to help, although I’m trying to keep my feet on the ground as much as poss xx

HereWeGoAgainBaby6 · 09/12/2024 22:38

@JenRi well on a much more short & sweeter note.. their clearly wasn't an egg issue this time was their? 🤣 so your doctor can take one of these if he wants 🖕🏼 😂 but on a more serious note, fertility/our bodies are just a strange thing i find! 🤔 but a very curious one!.. & quite often is the case, pregnancy happens when you least expect it.. 4 years of trying 😲 you clearly have conceived a little miracle 🥰 massive congratulations! what such positive news to hear 🙂

HereWeGoAgainBaby6 · 09/12/2024 22:47

@Boymum3722 aye same here hun, no-one could give me any answers even when i had to literally put the last misscarriage in this tube thing for the hospital to send off for 'genetic testing' - still couldn't tell me why! apart from putting it down to 'bad luck'. Which really annoyed me! but i suppose sometimes in life we never do get an answer to certain things do we :/ just one of life's cruel lessons i suppose, but still question why i had to go through it 3x 😔 my hospital wont give me progesterone unless i get/have any bleeding, as apparently they only like to give it as a last resort sort of thing, to try give my body the chance to do the job on its own? have you have ever heard of that yourself? or have they just told me 💩 lol x

Boymum3722 · 09/12/2024 22:50

@HereWeGoAgainBaby6 that would’ve been my next steps to send off for genetic testing. Hopefully this one doesn’t end that way 🙏🏼
I was prescribed it by the private dr so had to pay for it. So expensive 😮‍💨☹️ but worth it if it works 🙏🏼. I think that’s why the nhs don’t want to prescribe because of the cost of it.
Tommy’s have a page on progesterone and the studies they’ve done on it which they recommend to show to your healthcare professional to try and help getting prescriptions of it, maybe have a look in to that? X

HereWeGoAgainBaby6 · 09/12/2024 22:58

@Boymum3722 oh well thats interesting to hear! as sounds like NHS are trying to cut costs? but that to me sounds like they'd rather put a pregnancy at risk then! which doesnt sit right with me at all! its not fair on us women that have to go through something physically heartbreaking, aswell as the mental side of things!.. so whats the point then in Myleene Klass campaiging for women to not have to wait to have 3 recurrent misscarriages to get the help?.. dont get me wrong, i am grateful for the NHS as they save lives & without them i wouldn't of been able to bring life into this world but that statement about the NHS not wanting to put it on prescription has just rattled my cage!! maybe because now im thinking NHS with me personally just want to save abit of money 🤔😲 dont know whether its the hormones if im honest 😂 sorry for the rant haha! x

Boymum3722 · 09/12/2024 23:02

@HereWeGoAgainBaby6 i don’t know for sure if that’s why they’ve not prescribed it but worth having another chat with them if you think you’d benefit.
here’s the Tommy’s link - https://www.tommys.org/our-research/our-research-projects/miscarriage-research/can-progesterone-really-prevent-miscarriage
I agree with you though, I told my follow up gp (one different to the original gp who said I shouldn’t have all the tests I have because I’ve only had 2MCs) that it was barbaric that you have to experience something like that 3 times for it to be recognised! X

Can progesterone really prevent miscarriage?

Tommy's researchers are analysing previous research to find out whether the use of progesterone can help to prevent miscarriage.
