And you! x

@LozC0411 at my 20 week scan last time I was in the scan room for probably around 20-30 minutes. It's a really detailed scan and they check everything!

My sonographer talked me through everything while he was doing it I.e this is the brain we expect to see X and I can see all of that, this is the heart we are looking for X etc.

It was quite uncomfortable at times when they are pushing and prodding, and you might have to wiggle your hips a bit if they need baby to change position!

Ah thank you! So far all of my scans have been fine, and even been feeling movement, but I still can't help but worry! x

WildWhirlwind · 16/12/2024 12:28

We've also had ours and it was the same as what @LozC0411 described! So relieved to hear her say the baby looks well and the organs and brain etc. look as she'd expect. I'm grateful for all the detail they go into.

LeBonBon · 16/12/2024 17:35

Got my scan on Friday...still really anxious as we've not really had a reassuring scan at all. The two I had at 12 & 14 weeks told us nothing except dates. I had the blood test at 16 weeks and got back 5000 to 1 for downs which I know is good news, but I'm really scared to get to 20 weeks without any knowledge of how baby is doing. I've been feeling movement but our trust doesn't do the heartbeat at 16 weeks either so I've been feeling very on edge! Not sure I can manage my anxiety this week waiting for the scan 😔

Anyone got any tips? I'm also annoyed that I've been through all this before and still feel this way!

XioXio · 16/12/2024 19:52

@LeBonBon Did you have the NHS 12 week scan? They do some checks, heart beating visibly even if no audio, check it's growing in the correct place, measurements for dating, measurements for screening. They visualised my ovaries and checked arms and legs there as well. They probably checked other things too but didn't say

If you didn't get similar via the NHS 12 week scan then I think you ought to ask why not

LeBonBon · 16/12/2024 22:13

@XioXio I got two NHS scans at 12 and 14 weeks - they were both terrible, really blurry and baby was in an awkward position. So where we just managed to measurements for dating (at the 14 week one) and a heartbeat, that was it. No chance for anything else and no accurate screening so I got sent for a blood test to screen for downs syndrome only.

LozC0411 · 18/12/2024 08:49

Had NHS 20 week scan yesterday, it took about 30-40 mins but was so incredibly detailed! It was really nice to see every part of him growing as it should. They assure you they will let you know if anything is of concern and to not worry if they are quiet, it's just because they need to concentrate🤗

rosecbrm · 18/12/2024 12:00

@LozC0411 that's lovely! So glad it all went well lovely x

I also had my 20 week scan yesterday but the sonographer talked us through everything! I suppose it might just be down to personality.

Baby is fine, we decided to stick to not knowing the sex and will plough on ahead with a surprise baby.

The only thing making me want to find out is that we're really struggling with names this time around and narrowing it down to boys or girls only wins make this a bit easier 🤣

I also have GDM and have been on a GD-friendly diet from the beginning. This baby is measuring 59th centile, whereas my first was 99th (didn't get diagnosed until I was 29 weeks last time) so it's a nice morale boost to see that the effort and sacrifice is working.

Yeah she explained what she was checking but just assured me that if she's quiet it doesn't mean there is anything wrong.
They didn't tell me how he's measuring? I have my report but I have no clue what I am looking at

Ah I asked about the baby's size specifically because of my previous experience. The first time round they were like "hmm baby's on the bigger side, are you well?"

So did I as I've had movements for the last 2 weeks and I'm quite big already, she said she couldn't be sure due to him moving around? Oh well it's fine either way 🤗

GraySweatpants · 18/12/2024 14:15

Glad to hear everyone’s 20W scans has gone well. Mine is tomorrow - very excited!

On a different note, my 20mo exclusively breastfed and co-sleeping toddler has decided to self-wean! I’m guessing my milk has dried up due to the pregnancy. It took her about 2 weeks to go from slowly refusing boobs to put herself to sleep (albeit grumpily). We’re still co-sleeping because I don’t want to cause too many changes at once, but I just want to say there’s still hope for all the exhausted breastfeeding mamas on here!

Beccaa123 · 20/12/2024 17:45

I definitely need some reassurance...
Currently on our way back to the UK for Christmas. I know that it is safe to fly, but I'm in the airport and feeling anxious about it.
We also found out today that our health insurance provider is changing at the end of the month, which hasn't helped how I'm feeling as I don't know if my current hospital/doctor will be covered.
Finally...when is 'normal' to feel the baby move? I am 18+2, will it be obvious that it's the baby?

LeBonBon · 20/12/2024 18:03

Well my 20 week anatomy scan was shocking.

In for 10 minutes. Couldn't get images of the heart, spine, face, diaphragm...baby was in awkward position but she didn't attempt to move me or ask me to do anything to help, just laughed and said I'd have to back. Again. Couldn't say what sex baby was either, and no pictures at all.

I was so shocked as I know how thorough these scans are supposed to be, having gone through it with DD. She spent two seconds looking at the heart (when the blue and red lights come up - I expected her to keep trying like they did with DD but she gave up with no explanation).

So disappointed as well after not getting the NT screening either despite having to go back.

Topped off by the midwife telling us after that the appointment should have at least been 30 minutes. I broke down and said I felt our sonographer didn't even try to get the measurements and pictures needed. She was really shocked and apologised, and I'm due to be called by the Head Sonographer on Monday for an explanation and a new appointment.

I just want to know baby is healthy ☹️

Loute02 · 20/12/2024 19:29

Oh no @LeBonBon so sorry to hear about your experience! I had my 20 weeks scan on Thursday. Baby was in an awkward position as well with his back to the top of my belly. She managed to take some measurements and look at some organs/bones. She first asked me to shake my belly in the room then because baby was still not cooperative, she sent me away for my whooping cough vaccine and ask to come back after. I had a snack and went for a little walk then when I came back he was in a much better position! I would definitely complain to the trust and ask for another appointment!
Hope you'll get the call on Monday, good luck!

LeBonBon · 20/12/2024 19:46

@Loute02 glad yours went well - you've pretty much described what happened with my first baby, although in the end I went back for a 2nd scan because they weren't 100% happy with the pictures of the heart (all turned out fine).

So I'm not unreasonable - I know it's common to have to either try and move baby or come back, but it was the lack of trying and how rushed it was.

I'm definitely going to complain, I just hope they can redo the scan soon and do it properly this time.

24CRZZNKKA · 21/12/2024 06:24

Morning ladies. I'm feeling really deflated just now. 17 weeks today and still vomiting and feeling nauseous. I'm so fed up of feeling unwell. I'm giving up hope that it will disappear now, has anyone experienced the same? Has it magically disappeared at this late stage for anyone?

To top it off, my 16 week appointment was cancelled and iv not heard anything about another one.

Also, I was sure I was feeling the odd movement (this is my third DC) but haven't felt anything in two days so I'm worrying about that too :-(

Good morning. Mine lingered for ages, went away for a lovely two weeks, then came back again. Now I'm struggling with reflux. I understand you, it's so disheartening! I wish I had some tips but I just don't... Something that seems to work one day doesn't the next. Wish I could be nourishing this baby well but it's hard isn't it?

Around 17 weeks I don't think I was feeling them every day. Hope that's a bit reassuring. 💐

microwoods · 21/12/2024 11:54

@24CRZZNKKA I started feeling flutters at around 13 weeks this time and some kicks until around 14/15 weeks when the baby got bigger and moved up to under my placenta (I've got an anterior placenta this time). Movements are much more muffled now and last week I went 3 days without feeling anything at all.

I spoke to midwife triage because I had a vomiting episode for 24 hours and worried that they could be related (my sickness has died down) but she said that if you've had a normal scan at 12 weeks it's extremely unlikely that there's anything wrong, and much more likely that baby has moved (they've still got lots of room to hide at the moment!). Movements picked back up but there is still no real pattern and I didn't feel anything yesterday! My trust doesn't offer any assurance scans/doppler etc until at least 20 weeks because of how unreliable baby movements are at this stage! X

GraySweatpants · 21/12/2024 21:14

@LeBonBon Sorry you had a terrible experience with the sonographer! I would definitely complain. Mine wasn’t 30mins - was more like 15mins but she measured everything and asked me to change position/jiggle my tummy for a better angle, so I understand your frustration for her lack of trying.

Was it the same sonographer for both of your 12W and 20W scan? If so, I would ask to see a different sonographer when they rescan you or an appointment at a different hospital.

tb4122 · 25/12/2024 17:11

Is it normal that I haven't really felt any movements today, but yesterday I was feeling a lot? I'm 19 weeks with twins and have only really felt any movement at all for the last week or so. I know they say movements are not consistent until 27/28 weeks.

With my first I had an anterior placenta so didn't feel him at all until he was much bigger, probably 24/25 weeks.

microwoods · 25/12/2024 19:19

@tb4122 it's normal to feel movements some days and not others at this gestation but if you're worried you can always call your midwife triage line and see what they say. They might want to check it out in a twin pregnancy.

Could it be that you've just been much busier today? I don't tend to notice movements on my working days/days like this because I'm not sat down looking out for them! X
