A boy here too, due May 26th! Suddenly starting to feel much closer...

A couple of things I've added to my hospital pile after recommendations (hasn't quite made it into the bag yet) are an extra long charging cable, a pair of flip flops, a pair of earplugs and an eye mask. Still need to buy my giant nappies though!

Rainbowsunshine81 · 25/03/2025 14:46

@Toothfairy0113 they do look handy don't they.
That's a good idea, a wheely case, my mum has a cabin size one so might ask her if I could use that this time. Last time I used a holdall and a changing bag. That's a good idea using one side for your things and one side for the baby's things, make it easier.

Rainbowsunshine81 · 25/03/2025 14:49

@localbunny any recommendations for the giant nappies? I've got some maternity pads (lil let ones)

SnakebitesandSambucas · 25/03/2025 15:37

Hey all just got back from my scan. Fetal medicine said baby does have slightly shorter femurs but isn't too concerned as all my other results came back normal. And I'm a short ass about 5.1! But we are now showing excess fluid on the high end of the scale. So back for more monitoring. But at a different hospital ( same trust) which is a 40mins drive (I don't!) or nearly 2hrs via buses trains and taxis! I got some fantastic high waisted period pants from Primark they look hideous and shiny! But are very comfy. I also used reusable thick pads. But lillets are used in our hospital. They are thick. I'm just hunting for my belly binder to help with my C-section recovery as they are so helpful. What ever bag you use just remember you need the space and be able to take what you want out. If you are in a room a windowsill can help as you lay it out. But it's all potluck!

SnakebitesandSambucas · 25/03/2025 15:38

@localbunny the sleeping headphones with built in eye masks are great!

Rainbowsunshine81 · 25/03/2025 16:31

Last time I had a bed by the window so that came in handy for putting things on. I've got holdalls that I can take or debating on using a small cabin size suitcase. Got to think on what space you'll have too in the hospital.

SnakebitesandSambucas · 25/03/2025 18:11

I have had a room each time, but the cubicles can get cramped. Mini fans are good. Lip balm. Ambient snacks and lots of water. Normally theirs a fridge on the postnatal ward you can pop drinks and food in.

Rainbowsunshine81 · 25/03/2025 18:45

I'd be made up to have a side room this time, that's a good idea, a mini fan definitely would come in handy.

SnakebitesandSambucas · 25/03/2025 20:16

@Rainbowsunshine81 mine was for medical reasons so wouldn't have normally been granted. Lip balm is a good one. Ear plugs or the headphones like I said above. Water bottle with a flip or a spout.

microwoods · 26/03/2025 08:05

I went back and forth last time about taking a cabin case vs 2 small hold-alls and ended up taking two bags (one for me, one for baby). I was on a ward afterwards and space is seriously in short supply so I’m glad I had the bags! It meant I could just open it and stick a hand in to find something rather than having to open the case on my bed each time.

On the individual bags, I just use ziplock sandwich bags and label them myself. Cheaper but also helps not to overpack!

Rainbowsunshine81 · 26/03/2025 09:28

@microwoods I used a holdall last time and then a changing bag for the baby. I remember we had to sit in like a lounge whilst waiting to go for my section and there were lockers to put bags in so a case might not be a good idea thinking about it.
Like the idea of using ziplock bags, make it easier to see what you need.

Oooo love this idea of sandwich bags! That's one reason i've put off ordering the labelled ones as wasn't sure how big they were but if they're a similar size to sandwich bags that's defo a good shout.

I think i'll defo grab a mini fan to take this time, never thought of it before but it's always boiling on the postnatal wards, not to mention when you're in labour 🫠

I’m not prepared at all. We moved house on Friday so everything is a bit chaotic. Hoping to at least get the Moses basket and next to me set up in the next week. I’m due in less than 5 weeks now so need to get a shift on.

Had a midwife appointment this morning and my bump is measuring smaller than last time so they’re going to try and bring my scan forward from Monday. Has anyone had this before? I’m really worried the baby has stopped growing and they’re going to bring them early. I’m not ready at all!

BrightGoose · 26/03/2025 20:07

I know someone who this happened to and baby had just turned and was in a different position the scan was all fine.

I had my appointment today and baby is measuring 2 weeks a head but they are not concerned.

SnakebitesandSambucas · 26/03/2025 20:20

@Herewegoagain8 yes I know a few woman who have had this. Most were induced or planned C-section earlier. They gave baby steroids. But all was fine no complications. I got excess fluid that can cause restricted growth and reduced movements so anxiety in a different way. Close monitoring is the way forward!

Beccaa123 · 27/03/2025 07:01

I had a period this morning where baby was moving loads for around 15 minutes.
She's normally quite a quiet baby, I don't know if it's because of my placenta.
Should we be worried about increased movement for a period? She seems to be back to normal now.

BrightGoose · 27/03/2025 07:41

The babies are getting much bigger so movements can be really strong sometimes my little one is all hands and feet but sometimes she feels like she’s doing a blue whale impression and flipping around everywhere. But if your concerned speak to the maternity triage

My midwife has advised to call if I have reduced OR increased movement, basically anything out of the ordinary could be a sign of distress.

I think I'd give triage a call and let them decide. 9/10 you go in for monitoring and it's absolutely fine but it's better to be safe than sorry, right?

I'm on a Facebook group for due May babies and there are a few who have already been born 30-34 weeks.

TheBeesKnee · 27/03/2025 10:24

Also on a different note, I have worked out that I have 27 days, or 16 working days until I am off on maternity leave! Where has the time gone?

I am not ready for baby to arrive yet!
I have an appointment with my OB tomorrow, so I might monitor her movements for the rest of the day & if they seem normal wait until tomorrow.
Or is that silly?

TheBeesKnee · 27/03/2025 10:27

To be honest I have a very low risk tolerance so I personally would call triage, but it's up to you!

BodeAkuna · 27/03/2025 11:06

It’s really tough, isn’t it? Because you want to make sure you are being vigilant but of course it’s really difficult to accurately monitor movements. When I’ve had low movements, I have drunk a cold drink and had a lie down when possible and usually that has helped. But there are definitely days when I’ve had a really busy time at work when I haven’t noticed any movement because I’m just so distracted. Really good question about increased movements and Good luck with what you decide xxx

BodeAkuna · 27/03/2025 11:07

I was on the May Facebook group as well, but I left when I had a lot of bleeding In the first trimesterand presumed it was a miscarriage, then I asked to be sent the invite again but It didn’t happen. How exciting that babies are starting to arrive even though that is quite early!
