Done a pregnancy test last week, 3 days before period due. Had the clearest positive result out of 4 pregnancies yet.
Fast forward to today (which puts me at 5 weeks) - had bleeding this morning which soaked through my trousers onto the seat of the car, and twice made the toilet red when I went to the toilet, as the day went on it only happened when wiping, I haven’t soaked through any pads, and now seems to have stopped nearly completely. EPU told me to monitor and look for clots then test in 3 weeks as nothing they can do. I haven’t had cramps as such but just a general tenderness over my abdomen and back, nothing major.
Has anybody had a similar experience and went on to have a healthy pregnancy?
thanks in advance

I haven't had this happen but just wanted to offer some support. So sorry this is happening.

I have had two miscarriages, one early, one late. During that time and my googling, I did find examples of women who went on to have healthy pregnanies after instances of bleeding. I'm not sure if it's too early for a hematoma which I often read as the main cause.

I know with my early, the bleeding just continuosly got heavier for days until it stopped. It didn't really ease off quickly as you describe.

Sorry for your losses x
thank you for taking the time to share that with me, I had read about the hematoma aswell. I guess only time will tell. The bleeding stopped over 24hours ago so I’m trying to be positive just now

I don't sugarcoat as I really wish i'd been realistic about what was happening to me. But that genuinely sounds very positive. Good luck

I had bleeding in all my pregnancies which stopped and started throughout the early weeks. One was a missed miscarriage, identified at a scan at 12 weeks, one eventually turned into a miscarriage at 7 weeks and the others were health babies.

Have you done another pregnancy test?

emmatcc1 · 28/03/2025 09:14

The fact it lasted not long can mean it’s a hematoma or unexplained bleeding. With miscarriages the bleeding usually continues like a period.
Do you have any places around you for a private scan at 6 weeks?

Just to update those who have commented- I went for a scan yesterday morning and baby was measuring 9+1 and I have a subchrionic hematoma which looked pretty big compared to baby. They said it’ll be reabsorbed by my body or come away in which case to go back and have another scan

Fantastic news. Wishing you all the best going forward.

@MyZippyLemonBiscuit Oh you’re further along than you thought? Baby is like 2 cm big at this point so the hematoma may look big on screen but it’s actually not that big. It’s a common occurrence to have one and doesn’t really put baby at risk especially if you’re already 9 weeks.

thats actually very reassuring as the nurse at the hospital just said that they’re not uncommon but they can’t say for sure it won’t affect the pregnancy as if it was a big bleed then it might

My DW had very similar in her first pregnancy - bleeding then stopped and she is now a healthy 3.5 year old. It was also hematoma.

wishing you all the very best xx

@MyZippyLemonBiscuit just make sure you take it easy and rest a lot. As far as I know most take time off work until the hematoma has resolved and are put on pelvic rest.
