@kc92 I am lucky and have my partner and family doing the childcare!

I'm broody!! Defo want another, not yet tho work would lose their shit 🤣

MommaSmith · 28/04/2025 13:39

Mil angry at the dog because it tried to bite her foot after she nearly trod on him. She’s like “I didn’t touch him” I’m like “you were really close and you didn’t stop walking, it’s lucky he moved” - “no I didn’t”

whatever man.

and she was telling me how I’m giving me 2 yr old grapes is wrong 😑

and my FIL is helping ‘clean’ by getting dirty clothes and putting water on them and wiping the sides. Honestly it’s my main argument with my partner. His parents can babysit if toddler wakes at 6am (50/50 chance) and they bring lunch so we don’t need to cook - those are the only two good things but I get stressed they second they are here

MommaSmith · 29/04/2025 12:02

Just curious, has anyone else who’s exclusively breastfeeding? Got a bad pain on the side of their boob?

I can’t remember whether or not it’s normal during the weaning phase

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 29/04/2025 12:38

@MommaSmith that's a blocked duct/beginning of mastitis. Get on it with ice packs and ibuprofen and you can prevent it from getting worse. I got it when I went back to work and started pumping. But maybe your baby is drinking less milk and your milk is adjusting and causing some inflammation.

Alright thanks !

I’ve also got chills… can I still deal with it at home or should I try get antibiotics? Getting appointments are near impossible where I am

I had exactly that a while back, it cleared on its own with paracetamol, ibuprofen, and extra rest !
Worked its way out on its own within about 4 days or so, I felt ROUGH though

As much as I don’t want to, I might have to ask my in-laws in that case cause there’s no way I can look after two babies whilst my partner is working and I feel like crap. 🫠

Deffo get help if you can hun, I wish my DH had been a bit more hands on in the early days when I had it flare up out of nowhere - Instead I just got him telling me "I think I've caught whatever you have babe!".

Yes darling, I'm sure you've caught mastitis fever off me xD

Side question, are we all (aside from co-sleepers) moved into bigger cots/cotbeds now??

Bear has been since 6 months, and we've just had to lower it a level as he's so tall already (takes after his dad lol), but I'm now finding it impossible to get him in the damn thing as I'm so short!

My mum bought the cot for us 2nd hand, and although it was sweet and kind of her to do, the side doesn't slide down for easily putting wee one's to sleep, so it's genuinely hellish. Been trying 2 hrs to get Bear down to sleep and have just caved and stuck him in the travel cot instead as it's absolutely murdering my back and Bear doesn't exactly seem happy with it either!

How the hell are you meant to put babies to sleep once you've lowered the cot?!!

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 30/04/2025 13:05

@SpicyMoth my DS has been in a cot since 5 months and it really helped him sleep better, he loves rolling around. He's 8 months but we're only looking to lower it a level in the next few weeks. He can't sit himself up himself or grab rails himself so what's the point of lowering it? My FIL said the point is that at some point they sit themselves up and sort of reach out to you to pick them up so that's how it's meant to work.

I'll have the same problem as you though and I think I'll use a step next to the cot (a fitness step i bought for home workouts and I never used.....)

kc92 · 30/04/2025 13:45

@SpicyMoth my DS kind of rolls and swings his feet up over the sides so we lowered ours a few months ago. It is a killer on the back at night time but I'm 5"5 & can reach him ok. We just have a plain wooden one too.

Question - has anyone had any luck with gentle sleep training or night weaning? I know it's a very contentious topic so almost scared to ask! I am emotionally not able for the Ferber method to be honest. I know it works but I get too upset when I hear him cry & wouldn't stick too it in the moment.

I would prefer not to sleep train but I am so tired it's impacting my parenting. Starting to get snappy & irritable with the kids when they don't deserve it, so think that sleep training has officially become a better choice for us. My dream would be uninterrupted sleep from 11pm to 3am!

I got my partner to do the Ferber method on first because I just couldn’t. He stopped me going in a few times but it did work because most of the time he was fighting it by being overtired

he’s not too bad of a sleeper now except for when he’s ill, but he will actually tell you when he wants to go down for a nap half the time after doing that but he was already 13 months

not done it with second, might try and wean at night in a few months

Just waiting on meds at the chemist but I am starting to feel like imma throw up

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 30/04/2025 14:53

@kc92 @spicymoth oh we must have slightly different cots because even on the highest setting my DS cannot swing his legs over it. Even when I sit him up his head is way under the level of the rail if that makes sense.

I can't advise on gentle sleep training but I think the longer you wait, the harder it will be as he can cry longer and hurt himself too. I've heard nightmare stories about attempts to sleep train young toddlers. So you either put up with it and cosleep or you choose a method. Whatever you choose, consistency is key apparently, so make sure it's something you can stick with.

Oh my god, up and over the sides?! I can't even picture that without imagining the worlds longest baby! 🤣🤣
You must have a type of cot I've not seen before, I just cannot fathom how your wee one would get their legs over?!

Bear's sat bolt up right entirely on his own twice now, its not often or anything but its enough where we thought it was safer to lower it than to not as its quite a drop if he does manage to pull up and topple over, his belly button when I hold him standing is WELL over the safe limit 😅

Hes only 7 1/2 months but he's gonna be a tall one I'm sure.

Jesus my back and arms though, I'm 4ft 11 and my PGP never went away and if anything feels like its getting worse as my entire lowers back and full pelvis are so stiff they fully seize up!
So the cot lowered is a nightmareeeee for me honestly, super painful 😫

Have spent the day looking at montesori baby cots/cotbeds as being on the floor is a lot easier for me than bending but can't seem to find if they're definitely safe to use for baby-babies or not!

FuppinNora · 30/04/2025 18:02

@kc92 I have just started Lucy wolfe, first 3/4 days were hell so if starting do it at weekend when you have support. However last night was a success - 7.30pm to 01.30 had bottle. Started waking around 5am alright and was up at 6 but I'm happy with that as he would usually be up 6/7 times a night looking for comfort or to get into bed with me.

MommaSmith · 30/04/2025 18:17

I just wanted to check in because my First was well ahead of his milestones and I’m aware of that But it makes my second seem late, even though he’s probably on track of milestones

so he’s 7 1/2 months
yesterday, he finally started pulling himself sliding on the floor (so not crawling but learning to use his arms) he’s got good core control he can sit up without assistance for a good minute or two before getting tired and he’s got a good pincer grip and every now and again he will get on and the knee and thrust and then lie back down again

just wondering, what everyone else’s kids are doing?

Someone else on another group that I was on a video of her six month old taking her first steps which I thought was crazy!

Not 100% whats on track or what isn't as my HV isn't the most helpful and dismisses any development concerns I've had but Bear is:

  • sitting on his own, occasional topple but very rare
  • will hold arms out to be picked up
  • hates being on his tummy so doesn't really roll much if at all, unless on changing table in which case he will prestel himself to get the bloody wet wipes 🤣
  • really good grab and pinser, passes things to each hand and back, loves to smash two balls together
  • has just learned to clap right bang when he turned 7 months on the 15th and hasn't stopped much since haha
  • he's trying to get knees under him when on tummy past day or so, but only accidentally scoots backwards, just gets frustrated more than anything really
  • only just started using his arms when on tummy "properly" like holding self up with arms rather than just like a snake lol
  • will prop himself up on elbows when laying on his back like he's a cool dude sunbathing lol
  • loves to stand, but still v. Wobbly and will fall without support but if propped against edge of sofa will hold self there for a good while especially if there's toys
  • feeds self with spoon messily
  • feeds self melty sticks with hands easily
  • lots of "dada baba, "t t t" noises, very sporadically a "mum"
  • allllllmost waving and doing high fives
  • just learned in last couple days how to do a grumpy face and does this LOADS now lol
  • will take steps to walk if held and supported but mostly just tries to use you as a make shift jumperoo
  • no teething or teeth yet as far as I can tell

I can't think of anything else milestoney, I hope that helps in someway?
From what little I know/understand i think Bear's ahead in some aspects and behind in others, presumably because of his utter hatred of tummy time - but then he was colicky and reflux, so I don't blame him tbh, I'd have been the same hating it too in his position!

kc92 · 30/04/2025 19:33

Had a moment of panic we put the cot together wrong, so checked the website. 😂 This is the one we have, with 3 height adjustments. He is going to be a tall one though! He was weighing in at 8kg when he turned 7 months, think that's around 75th centile?

@SpicyMoth that sounds grim!! Have you seen a women's health physio? Best money I've spent. Mine was a huge baby so I was deathly worried about getting a postpartum prolapse. Helped my back and hips so much too!

@FuppinNora I needed to read that just now! I was about to start tonight. 🙈 My DH sleeps in the other room on weekdays so probably a bad idea to kick it off solo. Plus I'm pretty much winging it - I feel like if I just get him used to no milk from 11-3 he'll start sleeping.

@MommaSmith mine will be 8 months next week. He's army crawling since 6 1/2 months but prefers rolling most of the time. He doesn't really get his legs under him, but I think that's because our downstairs is tiled. He's not great at sitting yet and can't pull himself into a sitted position. His pincer grip is good and he really, really loves food. (Still constipated 💔) In terms of language, he babbles a bit but I think I need to take the Dodie away. He's got mamamama, dadadaa and babababa but doesn't do it too often. He is a super smiley & calm baby but will only go to me, his dad or my mum. He is obsessed with his older brother to the point we've joked about making his first birthday theme DS1. Last night he was awake 6 times and that's pretty average right now.

My first was so ahead of every milestone, but also a very intense little character, so they are completely different! DS1 was pulling to stand at this stage, saying mama, and walked at 9.5 months. He was running by his first birthday whereas I think DS2 will take his time with it.

@MommaSmithRuby is 7 months and just started sitting unaided, feeds herself with a spoon, has only rolled twice 😂 hates being on her tummy but can push up from her arms. Loves to stand and pulls herself if she holds our hands. Runs like the wind in her walker (I don’t think she’ll crawl but will walk first) if you call her from the other room she comes. Sounds like a dog 😂 says mamamamamamama. She’s a happy, easy going baby. Just a crap sleeper!

MommaSmith · 30/04/2025 20:35

Thanks for the updates so I guess he’s sort of where he needs to be but the speech side of it is a bit of a concern since he’s not really babbling

I was having a look at videos and stuff from my First and he was pulling him up and standing with assistance by six months and he had said mama and dad by the time he was five months

i’ll probably just need to keep an eye on it and make sure that it’s not a concern give it another month and I’ll raise it to the Health Visitor I guess

maybe try and get him to start feeding himself with a spoon as well because he is interested.

FuppinNora · 30/04/2025 20:46

@kc92 start reducing it by an oz every night over the next few nights and then hopefully go cold turkey this weekend or next. My aim was cutting out 3am bottle and staying in his cot - usually be in with me from 4am. I cut it by an oz every few nights until he was down to 60ml.

Ahhhhhh, that makes SO much more sense seeing the cot!
Yours looks so much nicer than ours honestly 😅😅

I've tried the gp three times and sadly they just say there's nothing they can do until I'm 12 months pp, and even then all they'll offer me is an x-ray :')
Feel very fobbed off with it tbh, but the lass at my gym who specialises in post partum highly recommended sports massage to ease some of my stiffness, she reckons trying to stretch will help some of it but that requires being able to, which I'm currently not because of pain - it won't take all the pgp away she says, but it should help mobility as I especially struggle with up hill - it feels like acid in my bones, its awful 😫💀

kc92 · 30/04/2025 21:18

@SpicyMoth it's covered in bite marks from his older brother so not too nice in person!!

Not sure if this is a thing in the UK but are there private women's health physios near you? I paid €90 private, got half back on insurance, and didn't need a GP referral. Breastfeeding unfortunately doesn't help! I never had PGP but found my bones hurt until I weaned DS1.

@FuppinNora still EBF (I want to move to combi but babas tummy is too upset by dairy at the moment!). I might try just rocking him with a dodie for the length of time I usually feed him for, and hope for the best. Say a prayer for me this week!!

My mum basically told me that she thinks I'm beautiful because I'm her daughter but I look and sound like a stressed sleep deprived mess today. 😂 Lovely to hear but she's not wrong!

I’m hoping I’m less achey and tired after weaning DS2 - I BF DS1 through pregnancy until DS1 was 19.5 months so from next month it would have been 2 years constantly feeding and feeling achey

I keep jumping from wanting to EBF till 1 but then want to combi feed at 9 months cos of how tired I am. But then watch it be me sterilising and doing the bottles anyway (I guess I will get energy back and less infections but still)

I'm sure there probably are private physio's but unfortunately I'm on DLA/PIP so I don't have really any spare money!
Any savings I have are strictly for emergencies and I'm ashamed to say I don't have much in the way of savings, even if I did they'd be reserved for Bear - He's way way WAY more important than me, if I have to just lump it till 12 months pp then so be it.
I could probably justify it and find the money if I was absolutely desperate and fully unable to walk or carry Bear around for example, but I can make it into town pretty okay, it's just the hill back that's utter murder because it's so bloody steep!

Supposedly my gym recommended stretches and exercises are meant to help - I've not been doing them long, so it remains to be seen, but time will tell ahahah :') <3
