Saw we hit page 40, so figured I'd get a head start on the next thread just in case!!

Oh gosh, I just thought, there may not be very many more of these threads - I wonder if this one may even be the last?!

HUGE congrats to @MudandMoet on their gorgeous wee one!!
Best of luck on your way home this afternoon/this evening, I'm desperate to ask all about what it was like but I'll avoid that as I don't want anyone to get nervous/anxious about what's to come!!

Super glad you're feeling mostly okay and so so SO happy for you! <3

@WinsandSam how far along are you? I'm 37+4 and wondering if it's worth trying to get the RSV vaccine at the drop-in clinic tomorrow (also hope you feel better soon!)

I had mine on Friday at 38+1, definitely get it! My friend’s baby who was only born 3-4 weeks ago was taken to hospital via ambulance at the weekend with bronchiolitis - which is caused by RSV!

Decaffe · 10/09/2024 20:11

Trying to do a new list but it won’t let me format it correctly!

Anyway, @90malis tomorrow?! So exciting! How are you feeling this evening? I think DH and I will be on pins on Monday night 😆

lilyvioletroses · 10/09/2024 20:14

I'm not sure if I'm going mad or not so wanted to see if anyone can see a faint positive please?

Sept 2024 - Thread 10!
90malis · 10/09/2024 20:54

@Decaffe I've been feeling all emotions today! Started with excitement but ending a little disappointed. The hospital called late this afternoon and moved my section date to Thursday due to staffing issues and being a CAT3 section. New day tomorrow though, fingers crossed this one, won't be moved :)

TripleESept24 · 10/09/2024 21:21

39+4 here......

Went for my appointment and babys head is engaged now all though not ALL the way. So the midwife said she would have a feel of my cervix and attempt a sweep.

She said my cervix was "slightly open" but what she would expect for someone who's had a child before. She did a sweep but didn't feel it was that successful/would do much!

Can I ask is it normal to be having a sweep before your due date? Are others having them before you are 40 weeks? Midwife last week said they will do them from 39 weeks. Someone said to me earlier I don't understand why they are doing a sweep when you aren't even overdue yet (which worried my partner as a first time parent) 🤔 I can't remember at what stage I had one last time to be honest 20 years is a long time ago 🤣

Has anyone had success from a sweep on their 2nd child?

BakeOffRewatch · 10/09/2024 21:26

@TripleESept24 i had that discussion today. With my first I had sweeps once I was overdue and nothing happened, including at 41+3 just before induction. We discussed it today and she said if I had no labour symptoms such as tightening, there’s no point, it helps things along. We’re going to try a sweep on 41+5 the day before induction. If you’re low risk why are you so worried about going to 42 weeks though? It’s normal to go past 40 weeks, with low risk and no intervention, half of babies are born 40+0 to 40+6, and half are born 41+0 to 41+6.

BakeOffRewatch · 10/09/2024 21:27

@TripleESept24 also things vary from trust to trust and even between Scotland, Wales, Ireland and England so much.

TripleESept24 · 10/09/2024 21:40

@BakeOffRewatch I'm not worried about going overdue at all. I expect to, I was 13 days late with my first and JUST missed induction (it was booked for the next day)

I am just anxious/nervous about induction more so as I didn't have to have one first time round I don't really want one this time so that's why I've agreed to the sweep.

I know it's different upon your area. Midwife's here in Nottingham said 39 weeks for a sweep if it's possible..... And that at 41 weeks they will book my induction and only really want you to go 10 days over! I am nearly 39 I don't know if age makes any difference.

BakeOffRewatch · 10/09/2024 21:44

@TripleESept24 Ah ok sorry your posts read as though you’re worried. I feel the same about induction and I had one. Really hoping something happens over the weekend. I’m a similar age and when I saw the consultant at 37weeks after the 36 week growth scan I asked them about age and going to 40 weeks, but they weren’t concerned at all if your blood pressure, growth and movements are fine.

TripleESept24 · 10/09/2024 21:59

@BakeOffRewatch just super anxious about induction that's all and really not wanting it to come to that! 😭

Everyone has different opinions don't they on sweep or not to sweep and induce or not to induce I suppose it's down to preference. I will accept induction being booked at my 18th sept appointment because I am so exhausted and uncomfortable now!

My brother in laws partner (she's like 12 years younger than me!) she didn't want to be induced and just kept putting it off her due date was the 17th Jan she didn't have the baby until 5th Feb. 19 days over ...... Each to their own but I don't think I could go that far over! I'm fed up already and struggling to cope with that it could be another 13 days 🤣

SpicyMoth · 10/09/2024 22:02

@TripleESept24 Can only speak for my own experience, but I'm in Scotland and my MW said they don't do sweeps here before 40 weeks.

But then I'm low risk with my first pregnancy so I'm not sure if that changes depending on risk and pregnancy number, I'm sure it changes depending on history and individual circumstances!

TripleESept24 · 10/09/2024 22:14

@SpicyMoth yeah each area is definitely different and each individual!

Has everyone been asked about giving baby vitamin k?? I can't remember that either! It's injection or oral

Xur · 10/09/2024 22:20

@TripleESept24 depends on Trust. Some trusts do from 39, some from 40. There is someone from our mumsnet group who’s already had their baby that had the second sweep and went into labour afterwards. It was her second pregnancy.

Yet again…there’s also another lady who’s on third pregnancy and had 2 sweeps but no action so far.

The first had one sweep before term and second sweep overdue.

The second person has had both sweeps before due date.

Vitamin K is typically an injection.

Not yet! I only know about it from googling and watching Behind The Midwife/One Born Every Minute full length episodes on YouTube.

To be honest all this talk of RSV vaccine as well is worrying me as I haven't heard a thing about it and at 41 weeks I'm now thinking it's too late? >.<

As lovely as my midwife is, I feel very "in at the deep end" and not super informed, so many of you lovely ladies here seem to know sooo much more than I do even with ten tonnes of googling being done!

Not sure if that's just the normal "first timer experience" or if I'm expecting there to be more info available than there actually is or what, but I feel very out of the know that's for sure :')

I'll be honest even second time round as I've had such a large gap I feel like this! It really is like a first time again as everything's changed so much and I'm in a different area too!

I haven't been offered the vaccination either and was only told about vitamin k on Friday.

I have seen 4 different midwives I don't have a regular never know who it's going to be and they are all so different and inconsistent I find

WinsandSam · 10/09/2024 22:44

@TripleESept24 yes, midwife discussed with me today at 38 week appointment. I'll be opting for baby to have the injection at birth rather than 3 lots of drops. I asked her what the difference was, the drops may not fully absorb due to babies mucus. She said some people prefer it as don't like baby to have injections.

@SpicyMoth my midwife never mentioned the RSV, I just had a random text inviting me to book it in. The consultant at the hospital was equally unaware 😬

SpicyMoth · 10/09/2024 22:56

@TripleESept24 @WinsandSam Ah thanks, that's actually very reassuring honestly - Well... I mean, it is and it isn't - I feel like we should be a little more in the loop with that kind of stuff :S
Perhaps they expect us to be taking the initiative and finding out for ourselves what's needed and what isn't?
You'd hope not though, as you can't really look for info on something you know absolutely 0 about!

Decaffe · 11/09/2024 05:37

Morning @Kiwi23 and congratulations on the birth of your daughter! 💗 I’m sorry to hear she’s having some trouble with her breathing. Was she born via CS? Have they told you how long they want to keep her on oxygen?

kc92 · 11/09/2024 06:12

@Kiwi23 congratulations on the birth of your daughter. 💞

I'm sorry to hear she's having trouble with her breathing - my first was in NICU for a short period of time and I remember how awful the feeling of being separated is. Can your partner go down to take pictures for you?

Hoping you're reunited soon.

Caroline2023 · 11/09/2024 06:29

Congratulations on the birth of your little girl @Kiwi23 . I’m sorry to hear that she’s needing NICU support, it sounds really difficult. I hope she’ll be back with you very soon and hope you or your partner can see her asap.

BakeOffRewatch · 11/09/2024 07:15

Congratulations @Kiwi23 , how distressing to be apart from her, hope she’ll be in your arms soon.

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 11/09/2024 07:45

Congratulations @Kiwi23 thinking of you during this extremely stressful time. Stay strong - this is your baby and you can visit when you like. Tell them that, you'll feel much better once you're with her. Sending all the love for a good day today for you both

hol92 · 11/09/2024 07:48
