My first was an anterior placenta and I rarely felt movement until she was bigger and I started to get them on the edges of my stomach; I guess around the placenta? It is nerve wracking I remember it well, it did get easier as baby grew

UrbanSquirrel · 07/10/2024 12:30

Thanks @OrangeSlices998 that's reassuring. I'll focus my concentration on the sides then! 😁

@UrbanSquirrel I'm almost 23 weeks with anterior placenta and have only started to feel obvious movements this week. I also know what I'm looking for as this is my second pregnancy. My placenta was at the back last time and I think I could feel a lot more by now so it does make a difference! I'm sure you will start to feel something soon as the baby gets bigger and stronger. It is crazy when you see how much they move at the scan and wonder why you can't feel it! I am feeling most movements around the bottom of my stomach and to the sides. I feel it most when I'm in bed lying on my side!

UrbanSquirrel · 07/10/2024 12:39

Aw thanks @Redapple21, that's good to know! Yes, the next four weeks is meant to be a growth frenzy, isn't it, so hopefully madam will start to be a bit more noticeable as we progress.

Totally true about the scan. I think I'm really having intellectual difficulty understanding that I am indeed pregnant, if that makes sense - despite the fact I can't fit in my old trousers any more. As you say, we see this stuff on the screen but it's so difficult to actually get the fact that it's actually happening inside me, because I can't feel anything! 🤣

Give me three weeks and I'll be grumbling that she kicks me too much...

@UrbanSquirrel I’m anterior too and movement does feel a lot like wind - if you don’t pass wind then it probably is baby! I only feel movement when the baby is very low down and I would describe the movement as constipation that moves! Some days I hardly feel anything but have found going on a walk or hoovering makes the baby shift down. What also helps is when I’ve just done a big poop, it’s like I’ve created space and the baby wiggles down.

UrbanSquirrel · 07/10/2024 12:46

@JellyTots2021 'Constipation that moves' 😆 That cracked me up!

There's sometimes a sort of general very faint period-like cramp around the bottom of my tummy - not even a cramp, just a vague discomfort - which may be similar to what you're describing. Maybe the uterus stretching around her? And from reading other threads I wonder if she's responsible for one or two faint 'bubble pops' in my lower left abdomen. But as this is my first rodeo it's hard to know.

Thank you so much, all you lovely people. This is very comforting. I knew I could rely on you 🤗 x

@UrbanSquirrel I've got an anterior placenta and I've felt movements on and off but not consistent, and I only really feel them if I lie on my back and put gentle pressure with my hands on the side and top of my bump. He probably doesn't like being squished and tends to give me a good kick 😂 I don't know if due to also having placenta previa I can feel more from the top!

Redapple21 · 07/10/2024 12:52

@UrbanSquirrel yes the bubble pops will be her starting to show herself! Give yourself a few more weeks as you say and she will be bigger and stronger and kicking you when you're trying to sleep :-)

UrbanSquirrel · 07/10/2024 13:02

@superj21 Obviously immediately went and lay on the floor and tried this (working from home today), but I think she's ignoring me 😉

@Redapple21 Ooh hope so! Will keep my fingers crossed x

Aww @UrbanSquirrel maybe she's just having a nap! He doesn't always play ball for me either but sometimes a fizzy drink helps 😊.

CarrotySnack · 07/10/2024 13:49

@UrbanSquirrel while I know we are told there is no need to worry, I would be just like you and unable not to worry endlessly. If it's at all reassuring, alllll my feelings have been just where an anterior placenta would be, so I'm amazed anyone with an anterior placenta feels anything at all! You probably know this, as it's googleable, but I get most of mine when I'm really relaxed, leaning back slightly, maybe having just eaten (or if I get hungry), just spoken, and quietly in noticing mode.

I'm just catching up so I also missed the conversation about bladders. If it helps anyone, the pelvic floor book I bought suggests ignoring what is often said about 10-second repeats of holding the pelvic floor, because these don't really strengthen the muscles. Instead, do what you would do for any other strengthening muscle workout: namely hold that pelvic floor for as long as you can, until the muscles start to get exhausted - you can tell when this happens because they just sort of start to lose the plot. In a way it's easier as you're not counting to ten, or using an app, you're just sat at your desk/sofa holding on and on and on, once a day. The book is Stronger by Megan Vickers, and it's amazingly good if you don't mind detail.

herewegoagain123456 · 07/10/2024 13:54

Scan was all good 🥰
Got another one at 32 weeks just to be safe with my history and my placenta is Abit unusual but the consultant isn't worried.

I would describe some of the kicks like inside farts 🤣

elb1504 · 07/10/2024 13:57

I agree with @CarrotySnack all my kicks/movement have been pretty much right at the front which is probably exactly where your placenta is @UrbanSquirrel

I had an anterior placenta the first time and this time I can't believe how much I can feel this early, its so different. I find most movement when I'm relaxing or lying on my side in bed so I bet those will be the first places you properly feel it.

UrbanSquirrel · 07/10/2024 14:01

@herewegoagain123456 That's great news about the scan! So pleased to hear it all went smoothly.

@CarrotySnack and @elb1504 Thank you for the further reassurance. Once again, I feel so lucky to have all you guys out there to help with questions 🤗 You're all amazing!!! x

@UrbanSquirrel it's nice to read you! I'm exactly like you atm. Anterior placenta and so far I noticed her kicks/proper movement less than 10 times in a couple of weeks (I'm 22weeks) I tried lying down and puring pressure and nothing. I feel a little bit worried now and then but sometimes I have that strange feeling like wind or grumpy stomach and I guess it's her trying to say hello. However, apart from my clothes being tighter I don't have the feeling I'm pregnant. (better this than nauseas 24/7) now I'm in Spain enjoying my first holiday of the year and seeing family and friends and she has been quite quiet making me to worry. I'm planning to have a private scan to show my mum (she would be delighted) and also to reassure me that everything is fine.

So, don't over worry because it's not good for anyone. I bet she's fine and cozy down there!! Remember your scan how relaxed she was!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

ThisLimeDeer · 07/10/2024 18:11

We had our 20 weeks scan earlier and you will never believe it but… my baby is a boy and not a girl like we were told at the private scan not too long ago 🤣. All I can say is that we saw evidence clearly this time so definitely a boy!

as for all the checks, everything is fine but we couldn’t see his kidneys and spine due to his position (he just refused to turn despite me jumping around and shaking like I was possessed 🤣) so we need to come back again on 25th. Midwife wasn’t concerned though :)

as for movements I agree with the description of ‘inside farts’ 🤣.

also @herewegoagain123456 wonderful news!!

Wow I bet that was a bit of a shock! They do always say they cannot be 100% but boy bits are generally easy to see!

Hopefully2ndtimemummy · 07/10/2024 20:17

Great news!!

superj21 · 07/10/2024 20:40

Oh wow @ThisLimeDeer that must have been a bit of a shock! Welcome to the boy club though 😁

retrievermum · 07/10/2024 21:12

@UrbanSquirrel also an anterior placenta here and felt baby quite early this time but last time was a slog! In good news though, if you tell your midwife you’ve not felt anything yet, she MIGHT send you for an extra scan just to check in, so a little bonus there at least!

Early movements for me last time felt like when your eyeball twitches, but…inside haha! This time it’s been a bit like when you’re on a rollercoaster and your stomach sort of lurches, so it can be really different for everyone! Fart bubbles is usually a good sign though! I’ve still only felt movement SO low down this time (as in where pubes are!) and on one side (my left) so I’m assuming my anterior placenta is on the lower right hand side, and I’ll feel more further up when baby gets bigger! Last pregnancy I asked the midwife if she could sort of show me on my bump where ish my placenta was so I knew where I would be unlikely to feel much!

herewegoagain123456 · 08/10/2024 06:58

@ThisLimeDeer that must of been a shock 🤣 good one though....I have 2 boys and they are the best 😍

We didn't find out, and literally have no idea either.

Guess it's time to start buying things and get organized

apple67cherry · 08/10/2024 10:35

Hi everyone..22+2 today and my little one has jumped from the 35th percentile to 72nd percentile in 2 weeks, proper little soldier but could this mean he's very big?🤣 95th percentile tummy with 42nd percentile femurs bless him lol.

Absolutely gutted and relieved right now that after 20+ weeks of giving up my favourite condiment (mayonnaise) my midwife has now told me you're able to eat shop bought...time to go shopping for cravings!!😂

MrsB2019x · 08/10/2024 11:16

Omg @ThisLimeDeer what a shock! Had you bought many girly bits yet?

I’m feeling those anterior placenta worries too, I’m not feeling anything and I’m 20+1. Was feeling DD pretty reliably by now 😔

superj21 · 08/10/2024 11:52

@apple67cherry how do you find out what percentile they are in? I've been given no info like that...

Kumquat89 · 08/10/2024 12:56

Hey all. Just had our 20 week scan at 22 weeks. @ThisLimeDeer Turns out we also have a boy even though the gynaecologist said 80% it’s a girl a month ago 😅 but right now can’t feel anything other than relief and gratitude that everything seems to be ok and baby is growing. I was so nervous! I suppose I need to start reimagining things though as I couldn’t help but marking a lot of cute dresses, bows and frills on vinted and imagining a couple of names I would really like.
