Ah good luck today. My baby just got her tongue tie cut on Monday. It sounds scarier than it is. Hopefully they have explained the process to you, if not they will before doing the division/cut. The midwife told me the baby won’t be in any pain, it’s a cut then pressure applied and then a breastfeed straight away to help them feed.
I got to the point on Sunday where each feed has been incredibly painful, that I ended up taking the dihydrocodiene prescribed for the csection alongside the paracetamol and ibuprofen, just to take the pain away from bf. So the midwife asked me to come in a bit sooner rather than prolonging it.
It’s odd how much it varies, the doctor on discharge said it’s a mild tongue tie that won’t affect feeding. The midwife the next day said it was actually a tight tongue tie. Then the person who did the tongue tie cut showed me that she couldn’t stick her tongue out or even lift it to the top of her roof. That she has been using her gums to feed, which is what it’s felt like for the week.
Now I still have some pain but it’s improved and I still have damaged nipples to heal. I also notice if I get the position/latch right then that helps a lot. However I also noticed if she’s eager then it’s more painful compared to sleepy feeds, or if I’m too full then it’s a bit more painful.
I will add as well that before the tongue tie cut she would feed for 10-15 minutes maximum and usually start to fall asleep by 6-7minutes in, and slow down considerably. Now she can feed for a bit longer, 15-30 minutes and she’s swallowing more milk. To the point she burps most times now, and last night she was sick on me for the first time.
