@tryingfortwo2 @Xur hi! Not been ignoring your replies, had a busy one today and first chance I've had to come and catch up... I use the mobile app (and I'm thick AF with these things) can one of you lovely ladies tell me how I can pm you my number to be added to the WhatsApp group please 🫶🏻

Happylittlebump · 31/07/2024 18:13

@tryingfortwo2 @Xur please could you add me to the WhatsApp group as well, I am not sure how to message my number on here either.

I have my antenatal class booked in now for next month, has anyone else booked theirs?

Lillers · 31/07/2024 18:46

@Happylittlebump My antenatal classes are mostly online - the only in person one is the class about breastfeeding. The online classes are all this week, so I’ve been doing them for 2 hours every morning since Monday! They’ve been really useful and answered so many of the questions I had about pain relief, induction, etc and I’m so pleased I’ve done them. When I was told they’d be online I was sceptical but it’s been great.

cd24x · 31/07/2024 19:01

I've been a bit of a silent member of the FB group, but found the link to whatsapp group. It'll be great to have people to chat to in early hours - my NCT group was great for this first time round.

Not much in terms of an update from me, except my feet are horrifically swollen in this heat. And apparently a side effect of insulin for the GD can also be swelling. I am even struggling with getting flip flops on 😔

MudandMoet · 31/07/2024 19:12

@Happylittlebump so glad it's not just me 😂

I had my antenatal class a few weekends ago, it was a 3 hour session in our local leisure centre which mainly covered birthing/pain relief.

I had a MW appointment today, she's offered me a sweep, 2 weeks today when I'll be exactly 38 weeks and another 5 days after this if it doesn't do anything- any advice on this? They're inducing me at 39 weeks due to my age anyway.

I'm not measuring very big and she said my bump is all baby, I've got a growth scan on Tuesday. We listened to the heartbeat and she's definitely still head down (since about 29 weeks) she couldn't stress enough if there are any changes or reduced movements to go to the hospital so ladies make sure you do because they obviously get some serious complications at this stage to keep on about it so much.

Xur · 31/07/2024 19:28

@Happylittlebump @MudandMoet I’ve messaged you my number, just drop me a text on WhatsApp :)
My midwife asked me wether I want any classes, but then changed the subject right after the question last time I saw her, so I actually didn’t manage to respond and request classes booked 😂

UnicornRainbow2 · 31/07/2024 19:31

Hi Ladies. Hope you’re doing well. I am currently 32 weeks pregnant and am stressing out big time.

I live in Spain and have private healthcare. So far it’s been pretty bad. I haven’t seen my doctor since end of June and now she is on holiday and not seeing her again until end of August. Not seeing anyone else in between. That in itself shocks me as in the UK I’d be seeing a midwife every 3 weeks by now. I’m going 9 weeks without seeing ANYONE!!

So, I had my bloods done on 4th July and didn’t hear anything back so didn’t think much of it. Happened to walk past the hospital today so thought I’d ask for a print out of my results and apparently I’ve failed my glucose test (which I did on 4th July!!) Score was 147 and anything above 140 is a fail. I also have leukocytes in my urine which is apparently a sign of an infection. Again.. no- one has called me. I went to the receptionist and said I need to see a doctor to go through my results and they said “the next available appointment is end of August” I explained the urgency and they just shrugged there shoulders.

I just don’t know what to do?!!! Any advice?

We covered sweeps in my antenatal class this morning, so not speaking from experience but just repeating what was said in the class:

Effectively they’ll only be able to do the sweep if the cervix is already softening ready for labour anyway. They need to be able to get a finger in to stimulate it opening more, but if it’s not ready at all and still hard they can’t do it. So the lady said if you want to try it then it won’t do any harm (except for potential risk of infection) but it doesn’t do anything unless you’re pretty much ready already. That being said, if you are nearly ready to go it could prevent you having to be induced artificially by speeding things up a little bit.

Lalarosex · 31/07/2024 20:32

Hi all I am due 1st Sep so 35+3 with first baby and wondered anyone else experience painful movements at times? Baby moves a lot and sometimes a movement gives me pangs of pain in the lower back. Just wondered if this is the norm? and maybe means he’s facing my back?
thanks ladies!

SC126 · 31/07/2024 20:45

@Lalarosex I defo get painful movements. Not necessarily my back but under my ribs and pelvis areas. I suppose it depends how they are lay but they are strong.

WinsandSam · 31/07/2024 20:50

Did the Honest midwife antenatal class tonight, was free. Good class if anyone wants to do one. It was 2 hours

WinsandSam · 31/07/2024 20:54

@Lillers which course did you do that was week day mornings?

Fik88 · 31/07/2024 21:09

Hi Everyone not posted for a while but usually catch up every day. Hope you're all doing good. I am 34 weeks today, this heat is awful and so is my heartburn. Started sorting bits for my hospital bag, I like to be organised so will probably have it packed by next week. Anyone else heard about having blood thinners after birth?

SC126 · 31/07/2024 21:11

@Fik88 are you having a c section. If so you will mostly likely have them. I work in pharmacy so we actually give them out for nearly everyone after a c section. If you are trying for a natural birth then you would only get them if high risk of blood clots which is slim.

Fik88 · 31/07/2024 21:19

@sc126 No not having a c section but because I am over 35, have a bmi slightly over 30 and it's my 3rd baby, midwife said I will probably have to have them

SC126 · 31/07/2024 21:23

@Fik88 try not to worry. Even if you get them, they are only tiny injections. I got my husband to inject mine last time as I’m a wuss with needles but I’m prepared to do it all again so couldn’t have been that bad.

Fik88 · 31/07/2024 21:27

@Sc126 Thanks. I am also a wuss when it comes to needles so will definitely be getting my husband to help. How long did you have to take them for last time? My midwife says it can vary depending on your assessment after birth

SC126 · 31/07/2024 21:30

@Fik88 it does vary sadly. I was prescribed them for 10 days but some people get them for 6 weeks. I know someone who has had to take them throughout her whole pregnancy and will need them for 6 weeks post pregnancy too. I definitely wouldn’t have hacked that. If you stay in hospital a day or two after birth though the first couple of doses are given by the midwives on the ward so less traumatic than having your husband do it 😂

MudandMoet · 31/07/2024 21:31

@Lillers thanks for that. . I suppose yes if I had the second sweep which would be 2 days before induction date and it only starts me off slightly I might be as well just go for actual induction and let them get straight on with it.

Lillers · 31/07/2024 21:32

WinsandSam · 31/07/2024 20:54

@Lillers which course did you do that was week day mornings?

It’s the one my hospital provides. I’m lucky I’m on summer holidays - my colleague who’s due before me didn’t do them because even though we’re entitled to time off for antenatal classes, she felt like asking for 2 hours every morning for a week was too much.

Fik88 · 31/07/2024 21:37

@SC126 yeah my friend who is also pregnant at the minute just over 2 weeks behind me has had to take them during pregnancy and will have to 6 weeks after birth too. I know don't think I could have hacked it either. Hoping mine isn't longer than 10 days. 😂

MudandMoet · 31/07/2024 21:43

@UnicornRainbow2 the private healthcare sounds worse than standard care. You have to ask again and insist on an appointment. The infection alone is enough to be concerned about untreated (if there is one) but the glucose test really needs discussing too. Don't let it drop. Are you feeling well in yourself?

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 01/08/2024 06:22

Well, we can officially say WE ARE DUE NEXT MONTH! 🥳🫶

WinsandSam · 01/08/2024 06:58

@Lillers that's great, we're not offered any in the area we live. Such a shame as wanted to do them but can't justify the £200+

@BeautyAndTheBump1 AAHHH EXCITING AND TERRIFYING. Only a handful of weeks to go!

UnicornRainbow2 · 01/08/2024 07:31

@MudandMoet Thankyou for replying. Yes feel fine in myself. I’m shocked to be honest that I failed the glucose test as this is my 3rd baby and not had it before. I have a low BMI and don’t eat much sugary drinks or food but I guess that doesn’t mean much, every pregnancy is different I suppose.

I’ve tried insisting and the receptionist’s are just like “oh sorry there are no appointments”. I guess they aren’t aware of how dangerous these things could be but I just want to scream at them to give me an appointment!

I am meant to be flying back to the UK next week aswell but need to get this sorted really before I go otherwise I will just be worrying!
