Long time no see for me in this chat, somehow life took over, but I am excited to hear about everyone's weaning-to-be journeys!!!

I haven't bought anything at all yet, so would love some recommendations regarding what plates and cutlery and sippy cup (?open cup) you recommend if you've done this before or bought some already ? I'm a bit overwhelmed of choice.

Non-weaning but EBF related, I read below that it seems most babas sleep through the night - I'm here to say that my just turned 5 months old definitely isn't. I thought it was normal not to, I don't want to get worried. Last feed is at about 22:00, then she feeds again at 1:00, and since she's turned 18 weeks she's been waking up almost every hour. It's just last night that I got a bit more rest, with feeds at 3:00 , 5:00 and 7:00 as opposed to every hour 😅 I don't know if this is still her 4 month sleep regression, as she wakes up more than she used to, but my baba has never slept 22:00-06:00 or anything more than 5h at best (21:00-02:00 she used to)!

Maybe it will get better after weaning? Oh well, just thought I'd share that I'm in the frequent feeds boat too!

Cheetocat · 14/07/2024 19:48

I got stainless steel bowls and plates in ikea for weaning. I am trying to be a bit more conscious of buying too much plastic and silicone always ends up tasting soapy and you wouldn't know because it's only baby eating from it. I've been looking around for a crinkle cutter but haven't found one locally, might try on vinted.

Sunshineclouds11 · 14/07/2024 20:42

@Cheetocat Amazon or Lakeland for a crinkle cutter.

This is gonna sound so daft but do we start weaning when they turn 6 months exactly so that'll be the 12th August or do we do it by weeks so he'll be 24 weeks the 29th July

Meeting · 14/07/2024 21:05

@ProudMummyxo 6 months is the guide but it's more to do with whether they show the signs of being ready. My girl isn't 6 months for a few weeks but she's already having a taste of most of what I eat.

Can't believe we are talking weaning already 😩
How fast has that gone?! time flys by so quickly! I want it to slow down!
I feel like once weaning starts they seem so grown up all of a sudden, they aren't a little baby no more!

I took my boys to the caravan this weekend and it was baby boys first time swimming! He absolutely loved it, he's such a water baby 🥰 has anyone started lessons with their LO? Would you say it's worth doing at this age?

msp2023 · 15/07/2024 09:06

@2boysandmee we started swimming at around 3.5 months. As lovely as it's been, I don't think it's worth it yet so we won't be signing up for the next term.

It may vary for different companies but all we really do is swish the babies around in the pool at different angles, walk around with them etc.

2boysandmee · 15/07/2024 11:30

@msp2023 thank you, i think i will hold off until he is a bit older, i guess there isn't much more you could do when they are this little

LavenderSweetPea · 15/07/2024 13:13

@2boysandmee we did a six week course starting at 4 months. Agree with @msp2023 it's lovely but not really necessary. At this age it's just about them being comfortable in the water and you don't need a class for that if you feel confident just taking them yourself.

2boysandmee · 16/07/2024 15:48

@LavenderSweetPea thank you, I'm definitely going to wait until he is older. He loved it at the weekend and I felt confident taking him so will probably just go to our local pool now and then

undercoverhero74 · 16/07/2024 20:04

@Thewildthingsarewithme @Mismatc I'm sooo relieved I'm not the only one! Little one still feeds every 2-3hrs it's exhausting. I will get a longer stretch at the beginning of the night but from 2am onwards it's almost constant! Weight gain is normal though and she seems happy enough just a boob monster

This sounds as if I could have written it! It seems there are a few of us who are EBF and have nocturnal babies 😂😂
I'm not too worried because like you I think it's on the normal side but it's just tiring! It's nice to know I'm not alone

Thewildthingsarewithme · 16/07/2024 20:32

@undercoverhero74 I have read that there’s no difference with sleep and EBF yet everyone I know who does has a baby who’s up every few hours! So nice to not feel like the only one who is sleep deprived still at almost five months!

undercoverhero74 · 16/07/2024 21:47

@Thewildthingsarewithme I have read that too but I definitely disagree. Feeding on demand is very different than the routine of bottle feeding. My girl just thinks she can help herself to snack at all hours of the night 😂😂
We are definitely in the throws of the 4 month sleep regression so I'm hoping the constant wake ups are soon to be a thing of the past 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Little update from me that may be helpful for anyone with allergy babies as I know there are a couple of us and not everyone was receiving great care.

We went for a review with the dietician at the hospital on Monday about her CMPA and she said we should start weaning now. LO is a little over 5 months but apparently allergy babies wean earlier. The dietician did mention this at our first appointment, we started first tastes with purées about a week ago and it's been great.

msp2023 · 17/07/2024 10:54

A little vent from me -

Getting so much stick from in laws around having a set bedtime routine for little one (more so that it starts around 7/8pm which is 'too early'). Mainly that they get annoyed we have to leave their house around 5/6pm to make it home for bedtime.

Ridiculous! I don't pay too much attention to it but it's starting to really pee me off! My husbands told them multiple times to mind their own lol.

But on that note I did also have a general question for those with older children. When did your little ones get to an age where you could disrupt the bedtime routine/schedule without having too much of an impact on their sleep/next day?

We have so many wedding events coming up that I'm going to skip because they start at 6/7pm. I was just wondering at what age people take their children to these events and let them have a 'late night'. If it was immediate family, I may have considered it ofc

Meeting · 17/07/2024 11:01

@msp2023 my MIL is so bloody opinionated so I feel your pain! We have continued to attend weddings and events right from the start, I don't mind disruption and haven't found it's had any negative effect on the following day. A couple more of weeks ago we went away with some family and I just let her sleep in the pram then transferred her to her cot when we got back to the hotel. She woke up a few times and had the odd cry but nothing major.

undercoverhero74 · 17/07/2024 20:03

And just like that we have 2 little teeth 😭😭😭 baby will be 20 weeks on Friday and everything seems to be going by so quick.
There is no real point to this post apart from feeling a bit sad that my little baby is growing up 😭

Oh my goodness!! 🥹🥹🥹

How long did it take from no teeth to something sharp and teeth?

I feel the same regarding babies growing up, it goes too fast! I still cannot believe my buba is over 5 months already 🥹

undercoverhero74 · 17/07/2024 21:10

@novamama literally at some point today! She definitely didn't have them this morning and boom 2 teeth by this evening. I assumed she was restless due to the 4 month sleep regression but nope, girl was cutting teeth 😂😂

I think as this is my last baby everything makes me so much more emotional than before. I have turned proper soft in my old age

novamama · 18/07/2024 07:46

@undercoverhero74 oh bless, that's spectacular! This is my first so I have no clue what to expect, though I am aware all babies are different. My mum told me I haven't had teeth until 7 months; and yet I've heard of babas being born with them out 😧

I can only imagine, I feel emotional and I still want and hope for another one! Wish we could snap these moments to be in our minds forever and ever to watch on replay.

Thewildthingsarewithme · 18/07/2024 07:52

@undercoverhero74 same! My little boy screams like he’s distraught, has a little five minute snack and then is smiling and chuckling away, this is every 45 mins to an hour on top of his three hourly ‘proper’ feeds! I’m going weaning will be our friend and they’ll take to food really well

Sunshineclouds11 · 18/07/2024 19:24

We've got our first tooth also!
The top is out 🙊

She's been so pissed yesterday and today and when I was putting her anbesol oil on she bit down and I found it that way 😂

undercoverhero74 · 18/07/2024 22:43

@Sunshineclouds11 oh bless her. How is she now though? My little one is far more content now they have cut through. Slept a lot better too.
