@Sunshineclouds11 they say she's okay when she's there.

On the full day when I collect her, she's usually sat sucking her thumb and holding a teddy, not doing any playing or interacting.
Though they tell me that's because lots of parents are coming through and she gets upset as she's waiting for us!
I guess I just don't see the good stuff between drop off and pick up - so even though they tell me, I don't feel sure.

@Mismatc ahhhh that sounds tough :( how are you managing?

Ihatewinding · 18/04/2025 08:38

@msp2023 does the nursery not have an app that they can send photos on?
Ours does and they also put on a daily diary with the their meals, snacks, bottles, nappies and sleep. Really helps with planning the evening as can gauge how much more food he might need and when he will need to be put to bed.

At the start I got at least one photo a day, now usually at least one a week of him having fun. But on the rare couple of times he's cried at drop off they typically send a photo of him settled and playing shortly after. When I said at one drop off I was going away for a couple of days and was going to be missing him they sent extra photos ☺️

Do you think you could up their hours if you're happy with the nursery otherwise? I think 3 days if you can manage it will help with the settling in, maybe even if only temporary. Mine goes 4 days, but started him on 3 for the first month.

Cheetocat · 18/04/2025 09:36

Hi everyone, is anyone else's little one biting a lot? What do you do about it? Our little boy is biting my partner a lot but it's more rare with me. I usually try to give him a teether and do something to take his mind off it.

LavenderSweetPea · 18/04/2025 15:06

@Cheetocat I recommend the book 'the toddler survival guide' it's really handy and has a chapter on biting and hitting. The short version is though at this stage to remain calm and redirect their attention.

@msp2023 I should have said, even after 3 months of nursery although my little boy is happy at drop off and usually at pick up, i try to get there earlier than most of the parents to pick up - when I do pick up towards the end of the session and he's seen the other mums and dads coming and going he starts to get upset. I think it's the anticipation of hearing the door and looking for me. They're still so little it's all a process for them. ❤

Mismatc · 18/04/2025 19:23

@msp2023 it’s not ideal. I am desperate to get pregnant again and pull her out of nursery 😂. There’s nothing wrong with the nursery and childcare is the right choice for a lot of families but I’d rather not have to send her at all

i absolutely love it when they first start, like you say it's like their drunk 😅

msp2023 · 23/04/2025 22:30

Thank you ladies for all your advice and stories! I think she's starting to settle in a little better so feeling positive today!

Also wanted to ask how much milk your little ones are now having? (For those that aren't breastfeeding) :)

CheeseAndCrackersx · 23/04/2025 23:52

@msp2023
3 6oz bottles a day. 1 when he wakes, 1 before nap, 1 before bed.
He only likes milk from a bottle, which doesn’t bother me rn cos he’s changing and growing so much everyday, those cuddles having a bottle I intend to lap up for as long as possible cos it’s the 1 thing which hasn’t stopped from when he was that tiny baby 🥹

OP posts:
Sunshineclouds11 · 24/04/2025 09:58

@msp2023Two 6oz, one on waking and one for bed.
also not worried about the bottle and enjoying the cuddles.

my DS had his bottle for bed till easily 2.5 and he's fit and well.

Cheetocat · 24/04/2025 20:42

For those whose little one still have a dummy, when are you thinking about taking it away? My little boy doesn't have an attachment for his dummy, he doesn't look for it when he doesn't have it but he does put it into his mouth if it's available to him. It helps him fall asleep when my partner is putting him to sleep or when I stop breastfeeding him before putting him to bed I pop it in his mouth and it stops him from waking up. Just curious what everyone else is doing?

Ebonythoughts · 25/04/2025 08:03

Hi all,

I’m due a c-section next week at 39 weeks but PGP has been horrendous and with a toddler to chase after I feel like crying most days.

I know it’s just a week but has anyone requested an early appointment for their planned section and was it approved? I don’t want to do anything that would put a risk to the baby of course, but since he’s technically full term now I’m wondering if that week early would make much difference.

Sunshineclouds11 · 25/04/2025 08:08

@Cheetocatmy oldest was about 18 months when I removed it through the day and kept it for sleep.
Will be doing the same with DD, she is less attached through the day also compared to DS.

HV at 1 year check said to remove through the day from 1 but it's each to their own and I don't believe in taking their comfort away when so young still.

CheeseAndCrackersx · 29/04/2025 20:03

Random but what do you give for breakfast?
I give fruit and toast with either jam, peanut butter & banana on, or avocado.
He likes pancakes too, those small 1s you toast with a bit of butter on.
Or porridge, weetabix.

is there any other cereals they can have yet?

OP posts:
LavenderSweetPea · 29/04/2025 20:39

@CheeseAndCrackersx I usually do porridge, but sometimes toast. Don't really branch out more then that. Personally I'd avoid cereals, most of them are high in sugar, but that's just my preference - as far as safety goes I think they can have most of the classic cereals at this age

Weetabix has zero sugar and is SO healthy. There are loads of fortified zero sugar cereals, so good for children as variety. I do porridge or cereal with fruit.

Correction, it has a small amount, but the other contents benefits outweigh it

Thewildthingsarewithme · 29/04/2025 21:28

@Ebonythoughts I’ve thought about you often since you found out you were pregnant with number two, I’m sorry to hear you’ve been having a hard time. I know that they are quite reluctant to bring it earlier than 39 weeks without cause but as you are in pain it’s definitely worth an ask. Hope all goes well and how exciting that you will be meeting another little one soon

Sorry, yes your absolutely right about weetabix. For whatever reason I don't really think of it as cereal (which is silly because of course it is). I'm sure there's other low sugar options as well but a lot of the stuff targeted towards kids usually isn't.

Oh for sure, I’d avoid all the “kids” ones. Cornflakes have more sugar than weetabix but still pretty good, I’ve given these when it was the only / best option on holiday.

Thank you lovely, I did ask and as I expected they said it’s not a medical emergency and declined but have been helping me with pain management as much as possible. The c-section is planned for Friday so not long to go. I’ve endured it for the most part, I can do two more days.

I’m looking forward to holding my son in my arms and for his big sister to meet him.

Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts, I hope you’re well.

My little boy has weetabix with a sugar free soya milk every second day but I change it up by mixing in either fruit puree or mashed fruit and I add either peanut butter or a mix of other nut butters. I also mix up the temperature of it, sometimes I warm the milk and sometimes I don't. Every other day he has a multi-grain baby cereal with soya milk but the one I give him is one of the only ones on the market with no added or hidden sugars. I prefer to give pancakes for lunch because I find them an easy way out when I can't think of anything. 😁 I read recently that it's okay to give children an egg every day, the cholesterol we were warned about growing up has actually been proven to be harmless, that could be a very good breakfast too!

Ebonythoughts · 03/05/2025 01:27

Thank you all for your advice and kind words. Baby boy arrived today at 4.30pm via planned section and the experience was wonderful. We are both well and resting now.

sending so much love to you all ❤️

CheeseAndCrackersx · 03/05/2025 16:34

Congratulations @Ebonythoughts🩵 glad all went well and you’re both ok. Enjoy your baby bubble xx
