It’s a 14 month milestone so the HV is being ridiculous! Take it with a pinch of salt xx

Cheetocat · 27/01/2025 16:35

My little boy can walk but I can't tell if he understands the meaning of any words he says. The only one I'm sure of is "cat". We'll go see the gp for his 12 month check, no idea what to expect.

Havanalily1806 · 27/01/2025 21:53

All are so different, I'm surprised anything would be flagged at 1 and honestly wouldn't worry, we've an early walker but no other babies her age are walking yet that we know.

My LG took steps at 9 month, and has been fully walking since 10 month, she now practically jogs 😂🙈 but we definitely don't have any words yet.

Lots of babbling, mamamama, dadadada, gagagaga, rararara etc. she definitely understands more, will run to the kitchen when you shout her for breakfast, dinner etc, can identify her "giraffe" and "bluey" soft toys and collects them when we ask. Understands "big kiss" and "dancing" which is the cutest, I feel she's changing daily and learning so much picking up new things every couple of days. The way she plays with her toys changes all the time I'm constantly amazed she knows how to do things.

Trying to say just don't worry, they'll pick everything up in their own time and they're constantly learning and developing 🙂

Cheetocat · 29/01/2025 14:23

We've been going to the local playground every single day during breaks in the rain, little one absolutely loves going on the swing and there's a big enclosed space for him to practice walking too. I love that he's able to enjoy stuff like that now and I think it's good for my own mental health too.

Hi ladies,
Little man is getting upset whilst pooing, they seem hard stools. Any tips what I can do to help? I don't want him getting that upset he starts to not want to poo.

@CheeseAndCrackersx if you've already tried natural remedies (making sure he's drinking plenty of water, fibrous diet, prunes etc) and they are not working then lactulose is your friend, but I'd recommend starting with half of the dose recommended for babies on the bottle and increasing to the full dose if half is not enough.

Pears work quite well for us or failing that the Ella’s kitchen prune pouch!

Otherwise lactulose as suggested above.
Hope it clears up asap!

My little girl is one today!!! Feeling all of the emotions today and soaking in every cuddle and kiss 🥲

Happy birthday little girl! My baby boy is 1 next Sunday!

We're actually having an extremely hard day, I had lovely plans for how we were going to spend the day and he ended up being awake from 4am to 6am after I had trouble falling asleep myself, then we slept until 9 which threw off our entire routine. The first part of the morning went as normal but now he has been refusing to nap for three hours. I had to wake my partner from his sleep to give me a break, I'm that frustrated. I feel guilty, he worked all night until 8am. I just don't think I can calm a baby when I'm not calm myself.

CheeseAndCrackersx · 30/01/2025 19:20

Thank you all 😊 I didn't have any prune pouches in (stocked up now) but google said to try watered down orange juice and I had a pear pouch in so he had that and it's been a bit easier since.

I'd be lost without this group 🥰

The pinching during breastfeeding is like an obsession now, I have to constantly redirect baby's hand and he keeps himself awake fidgeting when I'm trying to feed to sleep. 😂

DmcinT · 03/02/2025 11:32

Hello girls, I have been very Mia for months and this group just popped into my head today so said I’d say hello, lovely to see all the updates and babas walking, talking & hand gestures, it’s just mad our babies are all turning 1, such a fast enjoyable and tough year all in one 😂
@Cheetocat weve had days like that with teeth, it is tough tough going, deff tag team in and out with OH, it’s the only way to survive them I think. I rem someone saying to me ages ago ‘they aren’t giving u a hard time, they are having a really tough time’ and I think that helps me with comforting them on those days, sending love❤️
@CheeseAndCrackersx the prune juice pounces are great, orange juice I also find works a treat.

I was googling this Q when I thought on this group so thought I’d throw it out here. We’re still BFing here and I haven’t had a period return so I was wondering if it was normal a year on or should I go to my Dr, are any of u girls in the same boat or has everyone had their periods return?

LavenderSweetPea · 03/02/2025 18:32

@DmcinT welcome back! I'm in the same boat - still BF and no period in sight. It's slightly unusual but considered normal.

CheeseAndCrackersx · 04/02/2025 12:53

Is a week early ok to start with cows milk away from breakfast? He's starting to drink so much formula again, 2 8oz bottles and then 3/4 bottles of 6oz and that's with 3 meals, 2 puddings & snacks. He's honestly not a big water drinker so I think the formula is more thirst than hunger surely, & I guess comfort.
I have 2 tubs left of formula after this 1 and I don't really want to be buying more unless truly have to, or not to the quantity I was if you get me

@CheeseAndCrackersx I started 2/3 weeks earlier than first birthday! I wanted her to get used to the taste and digesting of it so I got rid of mid morning bottle and switched to cows. Then 2 weeks in, I did the same for afternoon bottle and now we're doing half/half of the bedtime bottle until we finish our final tub :)

No, it shouldn't be too early, plus formula is made of cows milk so it won't be too drastic of a change. Milk is more for hydration and calcium at this age anyway.

Feeling so emotional today about baby turning a year old. Anyone else? 😥

Mine only came back in December, it's normal, some people don't get it got 18 months or longer x

CheeseAndCrackersx · 04/02/2025 14:07

Me too @Cheetocat all the emotions every time I think about it. A week tomorrow he'll be 1 🙈 🥹
You honestly blink and they're changing every time. It's amazing to watch don't get me wrong but it's like whoa time slow down.

Thank you @msp2023 😊 he's such a milk monster 😄

Just catching up so sorry that this relates to a page or so ago, but honestly, if your HV actually said it’s an issue for a 12 month old not to be walking please report them. It’s unacceptable, as 90% of us know it’s BS, but there’s still mothers who will be made to feel like failures with stupid comments like that.

novamama · 05/02/2025 21:38

@newmumabouttown thanks for your comment. The HV was lovely and none was said in a bad tone to make me feel bad. I brought it up just because the HV did, but I'm reassured by all of you here.

My period came about the time baby started nursery at 7mo, but it's been extremely irregular - I've only had it twice so far.

On a non-related note - do you have any tips for teething pain at night? It's been 2.5h already I've been trying to put LO down and she keeps waking up every 10 min bless her. She looks in pain, but I already gave her ibuprofen 2h ago. Last night she woke up at 00:30 just as I've fallen asleep and didn't fall back until 3:30. We are all exhausted and work is a bit stressful atm for me. Any tips would be helpful 🥲

PS I think it's particularly bad for her bc up to this point she's only had her two bottom teeth, and now it looks like all 4 top teeth are trying to cut at the same time, bless her.

CheeseAndCrackersx · 05/02/2025 23:45

@novamama alternating ibuprofen & calpol I found worked the most for us. I didn't have much luck with the teething gels etc as he would scream having his gums touched, I did try sometimes putting some on the bobbly bits of 1 of his matchstick monkey teethers though so he got it that way. Does your LO have any teethers like that?

OP posts:
novamama · 06/02/2025 00:33

@CheeseAndCrackersx thank you for your insights! I gave her one of the flat matchstick monkey things now which she keeps in her mouth as she's fallen asleep, with some teething gel. Fingers crossed it helps. Otherwise it's the same story here with the gels, she seems to just suck them off my finger and nothing much stays on gums.

Cheetocat · 06/02/2025 07:49

I haven't found anything that works for teething, my little boy acts differently with every tooth and now he's got his molars coming, they're making him crazy! The matchstick monkey with teething gel has calmed him down at times though.

Anyone's baby come and hold onto your legs for moral support when they're doing a poo? I wish he'd go to a private corner or something.

Ihatewinding · 06/02/2025 08:56

@novamama do you have anbesol liquid? It's liquid lidocaine anaesthetic, safe from 5 months old, and an absolute lifesaver for getting them comfy enough to fall asleep. You get it from pharmacies, might have to ask for it as can be locked away. Make sure you get the liquid and not the gel as gels tend to just slide off.

If not settled after 2 hours and already given brufen then I would top up with Calpol as well.
The top teeth seemed particularly bad for my little boy, think we gave brufen every night for a week as they came in fairly quick succession. Plus anbesol for naps and at bedtime, and Calpol in the day when really upset

So glad we aren't having a third so won't have to do teething again after him haha, just another 18-24 months and they will all be through!

Sunshineclouds11 · 06/02/2025 09:35

We use anbesol liquid, it's amazing.
Also alternate Calpol and nurofen
