Still breastfeeding a gazillion times in every 24 hour period. I was so hoping to be pregnant before now but I’m not fertile at all. Similarly, I was hoping to drop feeds

Cheetocat · 13/01/2025 16:20

Sometimes my little one is trying to feed for ages and I don't get a letdown, I don't know why it happens, could it be cycle related since af returned last month?

Today I can say he is officially walking, I can't believe it, he's been through so much in his little life and he just takes it in his stride. I'm so proud of him!

He's really picking up signing too, he is getting good with milk, more and all done

Sunshineclouds11 · 14/01/2025 11:26

DD has had a little taste of chocolate of my spoon etc if we're having some cake etc.

Second week at nursery and it's going well!

CheeseAndCrackersx · 14/01/2025 13:21

In regards to sterilising after the age of 1, do I still while he still has formula & cows milk?
I don't really understand why it stops after 1 cos regardless what milk it's still in a bottle 🤷🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
Sunshineclouds11 · 14/01/2025 15:43

@CheeseAndCrackersx Personally I would continue to sterilise until off formula all together.
Could wash well in warm soapy water but I think it's incase of anything missed.

CheeseAndCrackersx · 14/01/2025 19:09

I will do @Sunshineclouds11 😊been doing it this long, what's a bit longer 😄 it'll be strange when I can stop as it's part of my daily routine

CheeseAndCrackersx · 15/01/2025 13:55

Does your LO's do all the hand gestures?

Little man claps, points, shares what's he's holding etc, throws balls. He just doesn't wave & it's something I've been trying to do for a while now but he's just not interested in doing it. Should I be worried if he's doing everything else? And will it maybe just click one day to do.

His speech is great too & he's saying a new word every week, this week we've learnt ta (thank you)

Maybe he just doesn't want to wave cos not happy to see people 🤣

OP posts:
Sunshineclouds11 · 15/01/2025 15:01

@CheeseAndCrackersx Part of my routine too😅 can't wait to not do them.

DD does as your son but waves and doesn't point yet.
I wouldn't worry, it does click. Just keep waving at him.

Cheetocat · 15/01/2025 16:40

My little one learned to clap at 6 months and then forgot quickly, he only started doing it last week, I was overthinking it so much, now he does it all the time! I think as long as they know any of the movements they're on the right track. Trying to teach him to blow a kiss these days. 😁

msp2023 · 15/01/2025 17:50

My LO is doing loads of hand actions but minimal words! She only knows mama so far... she used to say bye bye but seems to have forgotten that :(
Been feeling slightly worried about this! We read lots and I talk out all day, not sure what else I can do 😢
She understands a lot though which is a good sign I suppose

novamama · 15/01/2025 22:39

I am super sure that each baby goes at their own pace. Also we're a bilingual family which adds even more variables in the equation.

My LO doesn't wave per se, rather flutters the hand on a up down axis if that makes much sense. She does it on request which is cute. She's been clapping since 7mo. Signs "milk" and points and pulls to things she wants. No other sings though - not even "more" etc.

Word wise "mama" is about the only one; the rest are imitation games and attempts to create sounds "da" "pa" "ha". I feel like baby is starting to imitate more and more the sounds she hears but they'd be very far from calling them words just yet.

We're also a bilingual family and I find it so amazing that my little boy can understand certain things in both languages, he doesn't really imitate much which I find a little disappointing. He understands so much but when it comes to saying words or syllables he is not interested.

novamama · 19/01/2025 19:48

@Cheetocat I read that it's common for bilingual kids to be delayed speech-wise, but when they do start, they can speak both languages. Also my baba wouldn't imitate much at all before maybe 2-3 weeks ago? And then suddenly it just clicked. It's so odd how it happens.

CheeseAndCrackersx · 20/01/2025 19:56

Was worrying about nothing last week, he now waves 😃

LavenderSweetPea · 21/01/2025 09:44

@Cheetocat @novamama my brother has 3 children who are being raised bilingual, the youngest isn't a year yet but the elder two both were pretty delayed with speech at about 18 months they both only had a handful of words but by 3 they'd fully caught up with their peers. I guess it makes sense, if you are talking to baby in two languages they have twice as many words to learn but also they hear each word half as often because sometimes they hear it in english and sometimes in your other language.

My little boy (we're an english only house) hasn't got any words yet except possibly dada, but he is making a lot of sounds. I think once he gets the hang of it he'll be quite a chatty little one. He also doesn't point, I've been really trying to model pointing for him all the time so hopefully he'll get it soon. He does clap and wave, although honestly his wave is more of an arm flap 😂it's really funny how they pick up on some things but not others. I've been trying to get him to point for ages with no success, but in a single day he learnt to 'wash' his hands on cue (basically rubbing his hands together like you would when you wash your hands with soap) he seems to think this is really funny.

CheeseAndCrackersx · 22/01/2025 22:37

3 weeks today little man will be 1 🥹

What's everyone thinking of for birthday presents?
We're going to get him a few tracksuits for playing in the park, a bicycle helmet, a book like we always do, not sure what to do for his main fun present (his want).
He threw some serious tantrums as I tried to get him out of the swing the other day, I had to put him back in three times, it was so cute and funny how much he enjoyed swinging. It's hard to believe his first time on the swing was only in August and he was a little dot with no teeth or hair. 😢

LavenderSweetPea · 23/01/2025 08:30

@Cheetocat my little boys birthday is on Wednesday 😱I've bought him a walker as his need - he's not standing independently yet so it's about right for his stage if development, although I know yours is a bit more advanced. For his want I have bought a wooden London bus with people that can be taken in and out. The in laws have bought him a pikler triangle and I think my parents are going to get him a little tricycle.

Those are lovely gifts. A toy like that sounds great, my little boy loves emptying things out one by one, he'd like to take people out of a bus or something like that.

I recommend a tricycle with a handle that you can push along, they're so handy!

novamama · 27/01/2025 13:44

We had the 12 months developmental review today even though baby isn't turning one for another 3 weeks, what was flagged as baby isn't ticking yet is "gross motor skills" ie she's not walking independently, and she's not got the 3 words yet.

I just wasn't expecting them to be emphasising walking so much at 12 months.

How did your reviews go?

CheeseAndCrackersx · 27/01/2025 14:15

@novamama do you mean walking as in still holding things? Or straight on there own like we walk, cos my sons only cruising at the moment & that's very strange that's been flagged as a delay.

We haven't had our review yet, haven't even heard from the HV about it.

OP posts:
novamama · 27/01/2025 14:28

@CheeseAndCrackersx

Independently walking indeed!

My LO is also cruising whilst holding on furniture, but she is not independently walking. She's also not quite figured out bending the knees, so she's struggling to pick up objects from the floor whilst standing, if they are very small. And she won't release the standing into sitting - perhaps she doesn't like the feeling of falling.

CheeseAndCrackersx · 27/01/2025 14:47

@novamama id take it with a pinch of salt. That's a silly thing to flag up. Most children don't walk before 1. If she was near 2 then I'd understand but not 1.

What's a few ticks on a bit of paper meant to mean, we know our children, and just cos they're not doing what a bit of paper says they should be; what they are doing they are doing amazingly.

No wonder mums feel like failures half the time when crap like that gets said.

OP posts:
Sunshineclouds11 · 27/01/2025 14:49

No review yet but it's ridiculous flagging for walking at this age.

We're also cruising and no signs of wanting to try off on her own,

LavenderSweetPea · 27/01/2025 15:03

My trust do a review at ten months old, then not again until 2.. but the majority don't walk by their first birthday. The nursery told me 14 is the average they tend to see, with most walking before 18 months. Of course there's some that walk before 1, but I'd say that's quite advanced.

My son was flagged for a gross motor delay at his ten month appointment, as he wasn't crawling/shuffling etc but the health visitor didn't seem that concerned, just said they'd give me a call in six months to see what progress has been made. Since then he now crawls, pulls to stand, and sometimes slowly cruises, but he's miles off walking.
