@Mismatc is she actually drinking or using it as more a comfort/security blanket. If not always drinking could it replaced by something else? Like a teether or a small teddy to suck on.

It’s mostly comfort, she will take a dummy sometimes but much prefers the breast. I’ve worked hard some weeks to not give breast at all in the night but it’s so much pore exhausting to settle her another way every 50 minutes. I feel poorly right now but maybe it’s time to give it another go

CheeseAndCrackersx · 04/01/2025 12:17

I feel my LO is constantly hungry at the minute & he's having 3 solid meals a day, dinner & tea have pud also but he's still wanting 5 bottles in 24 hours. 4 in the day then the 5th over night and even though he's had 8oz max at bedtime he's still waking after 3ish hours and has 6oz.

I can't see him being ready to drop bottles any time soon.

Is it time for snacks to be introduced do you think? If so what are you giving or going to give?

Snacks I give my little one after dropping a bottle :
Corn cracker with peanut butter
Banana with peanut butter
Fresh mozzarella in bite sized pieces
A peeled grated apple
Hummus (homemade without salt) on wholemeal toast
Pancakes that I batch cook and put in the fridge, served cold
Flattened chickpeas

I offered him a pouch a couple of times and he didn't get full.

We were down to 4 6oz bottles (expressed milk) until 2 weeks ago and now back up 2 6 7oz bottles! 3 meals a day and 2 snacks.

Was back at work in September as maternity pay sucks!

msp2023 · 05/01/2025 08:18

Back to work end of March - feels too soon for my liking 🥲🥲

We're on three bottles and I've started dropping them and giving smaller bottles alongside a snack.
Been giving 2oz cows milk with breakfast, 3oz morning bottle/snack, 3oz afternoon bottle/snack and 8oz bedtime bottle.

Plan to drop the afternoon bottle over the next few weeks and then switch to a glass of cows milk with brek and a glass before bed.

Snacks I've been giving:

  • fruit and yogurt or cheese
  • pan fried mushrooms in butter
  • homemade hummus and little portion or bread
  • homemade banana muffins

I'm on the lookout out for snack ideas too!

How do you cut the mushrooms? I tried giving them sliced a few weeks ago and he just held them in his mouth.

msp2023 · 05/01/2025 18:17

@Cheetocat I just did them in small bite sized chunks - they went nice and squishy and she loved them. I will say she prefers squishy and slimy textures more so she was bound to enjoy them 😂

Thanks, I tried him with them again after your previous message and they were a hit!

We’re still on four bottles (7oz) + 3 meals. I thought Charlie was naturally dropping them as he started pushing them away for a couple of days but he’s back to finishing them all again. I’ve tried snack + water to replace, but he gets upset and can tell he still wants the bottle. I’m just going to give them until he’s at least 1 and settled in nursery and then re-assess the situation.

Can I just check that I'm not the only 1 refusing to give my little one chocolate?
I don't know if it's just people I know but they seem very shocked that I don't want him having it. I feel like I'm talking to a brick wall with my MIL who seems to ask every week has he had it and even bought him some white chocolate yogurt things 🙈

And yesterday I was asked "but he's had white chocolate right" erm, no! Cos it's still chocolate.

Do people really think kids this young need to know what chocolate is?

I wish I didn't sometimes 😂

@Cheetocat yay so pleased for you!

@CheeseAndCrackersx haha we absolutely are not introducing chocolate anytime soon! I've been so careful with avoiding added sugars and she's perfectly happy eating plain Greek yogurt and fruits as her 'sweet' items; don't see any reason to change that.
There's plenty of time for chocolate ahead 😂

novamama · 06/01/2025 16:09

Happy New Year mamas!!

@CheeseAndCrackersx absolutely no chocolate and nothing with added sugar for my baba either 😆

Fruit is the "pudding"; yoghurt is only plain or I add fruit/nut butters in it myself

I'm not letting my little one have chocolate either, he eats fresh fruit every day as his only source of sugar and it's staying that way for as long as I can get away with it. For the most part people have respected our wishes but every so often someone tests us, last week his paternal grandfather wanted him to taste espresso?? I haven't even used cocoa powder in his recipes because of the caffeine.

msp2023 · 06/01/2025 20:32

@Cheetocat this made me lol and roll my eyes at the same time.
Why is it always the paternal grandparents 🙃
My FIL asked if she could try some of his rubicon fizzy drink - she was 5 months old!!!! 😩😩

CheeseAndCrackersx · 07/01/2025 16:26

@Cheetocat id have said sure. But you'll be the 1 looking after him whilst he's wired and not sleeping 🤣

I agree with @msp2023 always on the dads side 🙄🙈

How are things with your partners, ladies?

I feel very much still in the "roommate phase" with mine.

A lot has happened since having little man and he just hasn't had my back when it comes to anything with his family and it's really drove a wedge between us.

And the fact it's still all me apart from playing with little man it's getting me down.

I just don't know if we're flogging a dead horse now or if it's all gonna get better. And where to even start if the latter x

I could have posted this myself! My partner and I are so disconnected. Baby only contact naps and doesn't sleep at night unless I'm in the room so we get no time to ourselves and he thinks I'm too attached to the baby. I bled a lot in pregnancy so there was no intimacy and it didn't pick back up after baby was born. I really have no idea where to start when it comes to patching things up.

Meeting · 09/01/2025 12:31

Oh we've introduced all kinds of sweet treats. She's had chocolate, cakes, ice cream, jelly! Mainly because I'm an absolute fiend for sweet things and she always tries whatever I'm having. I'm happy for her to try absolutely anything (as long as it's safe) and so far she's never turned anything down, sweet or savoury.

novamama · 09/01/2025 15:05

Mamas, I was looking into getting a kitchen helper tower as baba won't play independently in the living room and our kitchen is closed. She's so curious about what I do in the kitchen but having her watch me from the high chair doesn't cut it any more.

Was wondering if you have any recommendations? Our place is super small so a foldable one is essential, albeit I'm worried of the safety of it doesn't have panels. Ugh it looks like the US has so many more great options available ...

CheeseAndCrackersx · 12/01/2025 19:53

This was on little man's huckleberry app now he's 11 months. Tips for introducing cows milk slowly 🙂

Anyone else still breastfeeding? I feel like baby has been feeding so much less, even at night he doesn't need it to go back to sleep, I was hoping to do extended breastfeeding but the way things are going I feel like the journey will be over soon.

novamama · 12/01/2025 22:14

I am still very much breastfeeding. I was actually hoping to gradually cut down some feeds, but baby has been ravenous despite 3 solid meals a day. Night feeds seem to have been increased too. I wonder if it's a growth spurt for us.

Doesn't bode well with my plans.
