@msp2023 I wouldn’t worry. We had the HV review recently and they said I should be dropping down to 2-3 bottles now and giving baby snacks instead of milk. I think I’m going to leave it until baby starts nursery though and then just follow their routine. They give an early lunch and snack at 3pm, so will try and drop his mid morning bottle and late afternoon bottles then if that makes sense.

Baby boy has his first cold.

Chesty cough, snotty nose (mostly when sneezing), on & off groggy.

I'm alternating calpol & calprofen which I do anyway cos of teething but any other tips please ladies xx

I swear by snufflebabe, esp on soles of their feet and vapour bath wash

LavenderSweetPea · 10/12/2024 20:57

Aww sorry @CheeseAndCrackersx that sucks, it's so sad when they're sick. Nice warm baths, let the steam keep them breathing nicely. Plenty of cuddles.

CheeseAndCrackersx · 10/12/2024 21:21

Thank you both 🙂 I've done the vapour rub on his feet. And I luckily bought 1 of the Vicks humidifiers a few months ago so that's set up in his room to hopefully help through the night.

I was saying to DP just last week that we've been blessed so far that he hasn't been poorly with a cold etc 🙈 I must've jinxed it x

@CheeseAndCrackersx the calpol plug in works wonders. Snuffle babe vapour drops in a bowl of hot water in the room also helps when the calpol plug isn't needed anymore. I've got a cold myself currently and using the snuffle babe drops 😂 ... snuffle babe vapour bath is also really good.

So my LG just turned 10 month, and took her first steps a couple of weeks ago, but she's now toddling around all over and I need to think about shoes.

We were thinking of trying to hold out and wrap them up for Christmas, but does anyone have any experience/ recommendations of where to go? I know Clark's is the most heard of place but I'm sure I'd read negative things about it?

Also, another question re nursery, she starts in the new year... what do I need to send her there with every day? Feel with Christmas creeping up I need to get all of this sorted before hand or deliveries for things will be a nightmare. Even things like her name on things, do I need stickers? A stamp? Do I put her name on everything? How big of a bag do I need for her?

😂 sorry for the million questions, this is my brain this morning trying to figure the next stage of this parent life out 😅

Sunshineclouds11 · 11/12/2024 09:31

@Havanalily1806 DD starting nursery in the new year also!
Also having a panic about what we need.
DS was 2 when he started due to covid so very different!

I'm naming her clothes as guessing be afew changes. Deffo name her coats.
Water cup.
A back pack, big enough for nappies, wipes, cream and spare clothes. (Not an adults, plenty room in some kids ones)
Worth asking if they have room to keep a pack of nappies.

Sunshineclouds11 · 11/12/2024 09:32

@Havanalily1806 forgot to add, we done Clark's for cruisers and first shoes.
Had a good experience and they lasted well.

Cheetocat · 11/12/2024 11:06

My little boy is close to walking and we've got him socks with rubber soles rather than shoes, trying to hold off on getting anything structured for as long as possible and then will be going with barefoot shoes. They have loads on vinted.

CheeseAndCrackersx · 11/12/2024 12:21

Little man actually has a pair of pre walkers from Clark's mostly cos I wanted to get his feet measured cos nothing I was buying 9-12 etc was fitting him. And with it being cold out I didn't want his feet getting too cold in just socks (silly I know)

We fell lucky with the pre walkers & they was £20 in the sale so didn't cost loads.
I'll defo go there for other shoes when he's walking

Hi @Havanalily1806 my little one started nursery last week. They gave us a kit list, which was very helpful. It included:

  • 2 x spare outfits
  • 1 x bag for dirty clothes (I have one from bambino mio)
  • 1 x fleece jacket
  • 1 x hat
  • socks with grips if your little one can toddle (mine can't)

They also asked for unopened pack of nappies, unopened pot of nappy cream, unopened pack of wipes, unopened pack of formula if you formula feed, and teats (this nursery provides their own bottles).

We checked these things without keyworker during a settling in session.

CheeseAndCrackersx · 12/12/2024 17:53

Does anyone else get fed up of being told their lo is quiet when actually he's only quiet around certain people cos he doesn't know them v well cos they hardly make a effort. Gets my back up sometimes

OP posts:
Sunshineclouds11 · 12/12/2024 19:25

@HopeAndStrength How has your LO settled at nursery?
I know it's only been a week but DD start date is fast approaching and I'm starting to get nervous.

HopeAndStrength · 12/12/2024 21:29

@Sunshineclouds11 we had a few tears at drop off (and pick up) for the first few days, it's a horrible feeling but the nursery staff sent me pictures of him happy and playing once I'd left on the first day and that was really reassuring. He's doing really well and they say he is having fun.
They have also worked magic getting him to nap! I usually use the pram for his morning snooze but they've somehow managed to get him off to sleep on his usual schedule.

Sunshineclouds11 · 13/12/2024 09:06

@HopeAndStrength miracle workers when it comes to sleep!
Pleased he's doing well and enjoying it.
I'm expecting tears also

LavenderSweetPea · 13/12/2024 11:15

@Sunshineclouds11 my LO has his first day in the new year. I'm terrified, he hates strangers at the moment, send really scared. I can only imagine how he's going to take being left in the care of nursery workers no matter how lovely they are!

CheeseAndCrackersx · 18/12/2024 10:12

@Sunshineclouds11 how is your LO getting on with the tum tum cup now?
I haven't ordered mine yet x

OP posts:
Sunshineclouds11 · 18/12/2024 13:20

@CheeseAndCrackersx she's doing great, by tea time she cracked it.

@LavenderSweetPea how many settling sessions do you have?
My DD can be the same with people she doesn't know, fully expecting tears but going off experience with my son the first few hard weeks are worth it

Cheetocat · 19/12/2024 00:24

I hate when people treat babies like an object to be passed around as entertainment. We were at a meal this evening at bedtime and MIL kept trying to take my son when he was clearly exhausted, she's acting way over the top about missing him because she usually sees him on Sundays but we didn't go this week. I don't feel like going this weekend now.

Also Aunt flo just returned tonight for the first time since last May, that was amazing while it lasted!

RachLeeds · 20/12/2024 11:50

Oh ladies, I’m so worried. My little boy isn’t babbling at all and scored 0 on the communication part of the HV questionnaire at 10 months old! 🙈

The lady doing the review was really nice and said she’s not worried but is going to ring me end of Jan to see if there is any improvement. I’m sure he’s not got any hearing loss (I’ve read that can effect speech) but he does have his dummy a lot so maybe that’s not helping??

Sunshineclouds11 · 20/12/2024 13:34

@RachLeeds keep the dummy out through the day, plenty singing, baby talk, even just talking to them like an adult.

Babbling can come at any time tbh, I've known babies to not babble till 1 and their speech has been fine.

Remember theyre all different and develop at their own pace, still plenty time

Cheetocat · 20/12/2024 21:57

@RachLeeds They change so much in a month, little one might start saying a few things by then and if not it's been caught early and with intervention he'll be caught up in no time! x

CheeseAndCrackersx · 21/12/2024 18:27

8 teeth for Xmas & finally some peace for baby boy from them for a couple of months as I believe next lot don't start to cut til 13 months.

Kept calprofen & calpol in business this past month that's for sure 😄x
