Thank you.

I feel the afternoon nap could be knocking abit, a 3pm one would be same time as school run and she doesn't sleep in her pram so has it before

CheeseAndCrackersx · 21/11/2024 23:00

When will you all introduce a duvet and pillow? I know can't before the age of 1, so will you then or go longer?

OP posts:
LavenderSweetPea · 22/11/2024 07:16

@CheeseAndCrackersx I'll keep the sleep bags for as long as possible. I don't intend to take the side off the crib until 2.5 and I was told not to use a duvet until the side is off the crib so it's easy for them to kick the duvet off if it's too hot.

Sunshineclouds11 · 22/11/2024 09:26

@CheeseAndCrackersx I kept my oldest in sleeping bag for as long as I could.
Introduced a pillow first I'd say maybe 1.5/2?

Hello ladies!!
I’ve just realised I haven’t posted since I was panicking about flying & feeding formula etc back at the end of September!
Holiday was amazing and so well needed! Thank you everyone who helped and advised when I was having a massive stress about it all.

Anyway! 9 months now how mental is that?! I feel like it has gone sooo quickly and I’m absolutely dreading going back to work. Especially as my boss is being super awkward and making life difficult! Has anyone that has already gone back to work changed their hours at all? How are you feeling about leaving baby?

We are on 2 bottles (1x morning & 1x bedtime) now as he’s not really interested in it anymore. Nap wise he will wake 6.30am, nap around 9am for an hour.. then again around 1.30pm ish for anywhere between 1-3hours & then bedtime around 7.30pm.

Hope everyone is ok 😀

newmumabouttown · 23/11/2024 21:30

We’re still on a morning wake breastfeed then five bottles, and three huge meals a day. He absolutely loves any meal and milk, so I have no idea how to cut the bottles down. Any advice you’ve received or what’s worked for you? The bottles are at 6:30am, 9:30am, 1pm, 4pm, 7pm. The 9:30am and 4pm have really reduced down, sometimes only taking 3oz, but nursery said not to cut out completely yet given he’s still taking them. I’m so confused if some of you are on two how…

I’ve been a bit lazy since he started nursery and work has been manic and using the Ella’s Kitchen pouches. He has a whole one of those and a pudding sachet for lunch and dinner. Porridge and fruit for breakfast. Maybe they’re not actually big enough? At nursery they have freshly cooked three meals a day, plus snacks!

Sunshineclouds11 · 25/11/2024 09:17

@Ihatewinding I introduced some gripe and nights have been so much better!
No countless resettling, 6:30 wake ups!

I feel bad I didn't clock on😭

Sunshineclouds11 · 25/11/2024 09:19

@newmumabouttown No bottles gone here but middle of the days are cut down.

I was told to not cut bottles out till after 1

But NHS also say no bottles from 12 months … so how do up go from 5 to zero! So confusing

Sunshineclouds11 · 25/11/2024 10:17

With my first once he turned one I slowly reduced middle of the day bottles and then replaced with snacks.
He had morning and night bottle still for awhile.

Sunshineclouds11 · 25/11/2024 10:18

Also, professionals prefer if giving milk still, to be in a cup not a bottle. So may mean that

Cheetocat · 25/11/2024 11:11

@newmumabouttown A pouch is definitely not enough food, I usually make all of my sons food, I have nothing against pouches but I'm a SAHM so I have the time. Anyway, I gave my son a few pouches while travelling recently and they didn't even touch the sides, he was so upset after finishing and I'd have to scramble to find him something else. He sort of breastfeeds on demand but I don't have the best supply, I've replaced supplement bottles with meals if that makes sense.

Here's a rough outline of what we do:
Wake up - breast milk + 120ml bottle
Nap
Lunch - breast milk + a meal with a source of protein + iron
Nap
Afternoon - breast milk + 120ml bottle
Evening - breast milk + a more carb heavy meal
Bed - sometimes fed to sleep & sometimes rocked, shushed and patted

If he wakes in the night I'm less likely to offer him breast before around 4/5am

Ihatewinding · 25/11/2024 11:12

@Sunshineclouds11 auwww I'm so glad! Defo not a placebo for my babies! I tried stopping it 3 times with my first before DH agreed we would keep on with it as defo not coincidence/placebo then. Not gonna bother trying stopping until 15 months with this one, as why have a 4am screamy baby if not necessary?!

@newmumabouttown the advice is to stop using bottles by 12 months due to risk to teeth/jaw development, but still carry on with milk in a cup, depending on dairy intake in the day. My nearly 4 year old still has a cup of milk to start the day and before her bedtime bath. Her last bottle of day didn't get switched to a straw cup until around 18 months though. She had milk 3 times a day until about 15 months when she dropped to 1 nap at nursery, then just morning and evening ever since.

As a guide - the 9 month pouches at 130g. Tonight we had braised beef, mash and lots of different vegetables. So I took a portion out and blitzed it, it was 250g that I’d put in his bowl and I think he ate about 200g. I’ve been using pouches at weekend for ease as he has full meals at nursery. I’m going to do some huge batch cooking to size up to 200g meals, and can maybe use pouches when in emergency but top up with some fresh food.

Thewildthingsarewithme · 25/11/2024 22:12

Are anyone’s babies just not that bothered about food? My first was amazing, he would eat anything, he’s still brilliant now. The baby won’t eat anything 😂 he’s nine months and a few days and the only thing he will reliably eat is pureed sweet potato and squash. Any tips on getting him to eat more would be appreciated! I don’t want to turn him down when he wants milk but I am worried he’s just filling up on that

Mine is super hit and miss! She was so good at first but gradually moved over to a very unbothered by her meals phase / refusing a lot of food. Whether that's teething or just her, I'm not sure! Teething is on and off every few months for such a long time - I feel a bit sad about how much longer I'll be worried about her food intake three times a day.

She's also not that motivated to feed herself! She'll do finger sticks of foods (mood dependent) but won't pick up pieces of food. Also just started showing an interest in picking up a spoon herself. I mainly feed her myself though.
Don't know if I'm really in my head about it all because SM just shows babies eating lots of food, by themselves at a young age.

How's everyone else getting on with food?

Cheetocat · 27/11/2024 11:09

It's worth remembering that milk has loads of calories so even if the babies aren't eating loads they're still probably getting enough. A 9 month old only needs 750 - 900 calories per day and 400 - 500 of those is supposed to be from milk. Obviously every baby is different and those are only estimations but it's nice to know. Also a lot is going to change in the next three months as they get closer to a year old, they'll be more aware of their surroundings and they'll want to mimic everyone else sitting down for a meal.

RachLeeds · 27/11/2024 20:23

My son isn’t eating as much food either. He used to seem like he was starving but he doesn’t eat half as much now. He has eight teeth already too so hopefully we get a break from the teething! 🥲😂

CheeseAndCrackersx · 28/11/2024 10:58

If you do them; what bits you getting for babies stocking? 🙂

I've pretty much finished for Xmas and birthday thanks to the deals around at the min 🙂

I haven't actually bought anything for stockings yet but I've also been thinking of this, some things I've thought of were

A new pack of cute bibs
A foil balloon that I can blow up for him
A bath toy
Bubbles
A new dummy/dummy clips
One of those compacted wash cloths that expand when they get wet
A new water bottle with a straw, his current one is quite worn out
First words flash cards

LavenderSweetPea · 28/11/2024 16:21

@CheeseAndCrackersx I've got nothing for birthday yet and it's in January 🙈really must get looking. I've done the stocking though - I've got bath boats and buckets, bubble bath, some trousers, sleigh bell rattle, a book and a few small toys including a xylophone which was from vinted

CheeseAndCrackersx · 29/11/2024 05:43

@LavenderSweetPea have a look at the early learning centre for ideas, especially the woodlets bits 😊

Has sleep gone to pot again for anyone else? Especially naps.

He's having really short 1s 1st nap (35 mins) been going on for days and today he wouldn't settle for his 2nd so I'm going to have a very overtired baby at bedtime 🙈

Night has been ok luckily, it's just day has gone crap 🥴

I know I've asked this before but too many pages to go back through.

What cups is everyone using?

I've just bought a Nuk grip and sip and it's pretty hard to actually get water out. She's just biting it.

Sunshineclouds11 · 03/12/2024 15:58

It's a Nuby
