@Cheetocat have you thought about getting him one of those backpack type things but they have a pillow for the back of their head for when they fall, you can get a turtle or a lion or just simple ones. I don't know if they are truly good but I see them advertised a lot on insta or TT

Hello you lovely lot!

Just checking in to see how everyone is getting on?

Has anyone felt a bit teary of late? Baby has dropped a feed or two and my emotions are all over the place. My neighbour complained about baby crying during the night and it's bothered me more than it should. I know I'm sleep deprived and probably a bit hormonal but I feel like I want to cry every time I think about it.
I don't have PPD as this is an isolated incident just wondering if anyone else is feeling a bit more sensitive around the 8 month mark or if I'm just a drama queen 😂😂

msp2023 · 20/10/2024 18:35

Anyone's little one gone off food completely?
I was so pleased with the progress we had made moving towards three meals and she's suddenly stopped wanting anything bar fruit and yogurt :(

I'm putting it down to teething as she's cutting a top tooth. Hoping it kicks back into hungry mode but been feeling quite sad/worried about it tbh

Thewildthingsarewithme · 20/10/2024 19:36

@undercoverhero74 i don’t know if it’s necessarily anything to do with baba being eight months and probably more to do with dropping a feed/feeds. It always impacts me hormonally and then it takes a few days of the new bf schedule to get back to normal. Hope you’re ok xx

Thewildthingsarewithme · 20/10/2024 19:39

@msp2023mine is still not really interested at all which has really surprised me because my first was brilliant and is still an amazing eater now. Im also feeling quite flat about it because I was hoping to have cut back on the bf by now but he’s still feeding just as regularly since he’s barely having any food. Have you tried offering things like cucumber or tomato, they can be quite soothing for sore gums

CheeseAndCrackersx · 20/10/2024 22:42

I had similar a few weeks ago @msp2023
He was just crying and refusing anything but a bottle so I stopped offering solids for about 2/3 days I think it was then I tried again and he was fine.

Has anyone been on a plane recently with their little one? Any tips for travelling? I'm especially unsure about his little meals and keeping him entertained.

Thewildthingsarewithme · 21/10/2024 15:31

@Cheetocat are you still BF? We fly a lot as a family are in a different country and I’ve just been giving him milk at take off/landing and feeding him to sleep as much as possible. I’ll probably take a pouch this morning weekend when we fly and just put it directly into the spoon. I have also taken a small pack of mini books and some wooden animals but he’s largely been amused by the experience so far

Yes, I'm still breastfeeding, but I'm worried about it because little one is so nosy he can't concentrate enough to feed in a parked car, I feel like he'll be difficult traveling. 😂 I tried to feed him inside my jumper in a shopping centre recently and he was trying to climb out the neck hole. Where I live you can only get pouches with fruit in them which I feel like won't fill him up but I don't think a tupperware of slop from home sounds appealing either. 😂 I'm sure I'll figure it out, thanks so much!

Literally this morning! 3.5h flight and touchwood she did so well :)

I took a busyboard toy (that she's never used before) and it took up 45mins! She was so entertained :)
Other than that, she was entertained by random leaflets/bottles on the plane and slept for around an hour total due to missed naps in the morning.

Food wise: I just packed meals we usually have at home for the two meals we needed (I did overnight oats for brek, then packed some stir fried rice for lunch and berries/cucumbers for snacks). I picked up some watermelon wedges and plain yog at the airport too.

Milk wise I only BF morning and night so I had pre made bottles for the flight.

It's definitely hit and miss with how they handle it but hope it goes smoothly for you!

Mismatc · 22/10/2024 03:03

We just did a 11 hour night flight two days ago. The sling was a godsend as well as breastfeeding, toys, snacks, other people to look at. We survived and have 4 more flights to go in this trip with our three children 🫠

Cheetocat · 22/10/2024 09:32

Thanks so much everyone, it's only a 2 hours flying and 3 hours driving but I'm going solo with him. Overnight oats is a brilliant idea. Do you know if it's okay to fly with an ice pack? I'm definitely going to bring the sling, we don't use it much anymore but it might come in handy. I feel like buying more dummies just for the trip, I'm terrified of losing them and being stuck with an overtired baby. 😂 The ones we get are €12 each though! I will pick up a couple of new toys and bring a couple of books too.

Those which said about a play teepee on their Xmas list for LO, what will you put inside? Like for them to sit on, a bean bag or just pillows?

I've got my eye on a play tent which will
match the ball pit and want to use it for cosy reading together so unsure how I'll style it so we're comfy when in it if that makes sense.

LavenderSweetPea · 25/10/2024 15:18

@CheeseAndCrackersx I'm buying one that comes with a padded mat for inside and I was going to put some little cushions in there as well to make it cosy :)

CheeseAndCrackersx · 25/10/2024 22:12

Thank you @LavenderSweetPea 😀

How is everyone getting on with the 8 month regression?
I think we're slowly coming out the other side now. Much easier settling at nap & bed the past 3 days, doing well with 2 naps a day, still going to bed late sometimes but he's sleeping a lot longer now (7-8 hours) before wanting a feed so I'm hoping soon he'll drop it totally 😊

Any babies had a stomach bug yet?

DD has had diarrhoea for 3 days now, sick afew times.
She's just wanting to sleep and pretty quiet.
I know sleep is best etc but how many days is too long for babies?

CheeseAndCrackersx · 01/11/2024 13:08

I'd love to start doing some crafts with little man, like hand and feet paintings etc, like what they'd do if went to nursery, just something different to do together, but I haven't a clue what paints are right for him; anyone know? And if so where from?! 🙂

novamama · 02/11/2024 07:51

@CheeseAndCrackersx baby has been waking up at 2:30ish and then 5:30 ish and not gone to sleep for 45min after feeding .. not sure if this is a regression but it sure makes us all exhausted 😵‍💫

@Sunshineclouds11 ugh that's tough! How's you're little one now? I'd call the GP on day 2 of diarrhoea to be honest, especially if there's vomiting as well. Hope things are better for you 🙏🏻

Anyone struggling with separation anxiety? (On baby's end)

Little one will not settle for anyone else incl dad - when she wakes up and I'm not there, she cries hysterically until I appear. I've left her for a few hours at a time with him but it seems to be getting worse.

This is also the case when it's just us two at home (which is most of the time). If I leave the room she's playing in - hysterics. She will crawl around, crying and cling on to me. Completely fine when I pick her up.

Pulling my hair out - I can't get anything done when she's awake.
She is teething so I'm assuming this is a phase but gosh it's upsetting

Hi, my little one behaves similarly. If I leave the room he absolutely freaks out, when I'm with him he's clinging to my clothes so I can't move. If he wants me to pick him up and I don't do it immediately he has a baby tantrum.

Ihatewinding · 08/11/2024 17:38

@Cheetocat @msp2023 what I've found helps, and what I did to bridge this stage with my first, is to play prolonged peekaboo to help with idea of object permanence.

So start as normal then peekaaaaaaaaa (walk into kitchen and grab snack, etc. then rush back) boooooooo.

In sight of him in bouncer in bathroom post shower: peeka peeka peeka (go out of sight to put deodorant on then back in sight) BOO! Repeat for underwear, clothes, etc. Stay and do peekaboo properly if starting to get antsy then more peekas and rewarding with lots of excited boo boo boo boos seems to help 😂

I can go for wees fine now 🙏🏻 he does tend to crawl after me now tbf!

Ihatewinding · 08/11/2024 17:43

Sleep much better here so think over the 8 months regression, but found I was still exhausted. I went to GP and bloods showed I'm anaemic and my iron levels are so absolutely pants I actually need further investigations.

So if you think you're more tired than you should be I really recommend getting checked out. For those who said they were feeling really emotional, I had that too and think just part of being so drained, so maybe something to think about.

Sunshineclouds11 · 08/11/2024 19:30

@Ihatewinding Same! I'm on iron and vit d tablets atm.
My thyroid also came back low, need a repeat.

LavenderSweetPea · 10/11/2024 13:34

@Ihatewinding I've been meaning to go to the gp to get mine checked. I do try to take breastfeeding vitamins with iron every day but honestly only remember once a week 🙈i do feel like I'm more tired than I should be.
