I have also gone OTT with Christmas presents but might try and save some for his 1st birthday instead?? 😅

We looked around the local nursery this week to start in Feb and there were some days fully booked already! Just a heads up if any of you haven’t sorted child care already… don’t leave it too late like me!

Do babies just naturally drop feeds when they're ready to? He's suddenly gone from 5-4 bottles a day and today's he's taken less, normally when he'd take 8oz he's only had 6 per bottle. And he's going longer between bottles too

It's completely normal, especially as they get more efficient with solids!

My little one started clapping his hands again yesterday after only doing it for a few days at 6 months. So cute!

CheeseAndCrackersx · 14/10/2024 18:17

Do your little ones drink much water currently? And what type of cups do you use?
I currently use the free flow TT 1. But the water goes everywhere but his mouth 😂

Just with her meals, using the same one and her issue is she doesn't breath and gulps it down so gasps for air at the end 😂🙃

She doesn't finish a full cup

msp2023 · 14/10/2024 19:59

My little one loves water! I give her a little cups worth at the end of each meal - she has around 100ml total in the day I'd say.

I saw a guide on solid starts which said recommended amount is around 3 x 2oz from 6-9m and then 4 x 2oz 9-12m (optional until 12m+ of course).

Forgot to add - I've been using the open cup from Bibado since 6m and she can drink quite well now! Minimal spillage :)
Also started a straw cup recently so she gets used to this when we're out and about.

Sunshineclouds11 · 14/10/2024 20:06

@msp2023 what straw cup have you got?
I've been looking whilst at Asda etc but wasn't sure which is best for their age.

CheeseAndCrackersx · 14/10/2024 20:12

I was wondering whether to try a open cup and see how he got on with it and if did so better than the TT 1 😊

@CheeseAndCrackersx

We use the Tum Tum free valve straw cups which I can't recommend enough (I think her learning how to use this also helped with her tongue reflux when starting solids) and we also use the diody open cup, which again has been great.

She took to the Diody straight away and we then used the tum tum to help her tongue reflux when we were starting out with solids.

She happily drinks from her tum tum now every day and loves her water, it has handles each side so she just helps her self during her meal times

LavenderSweetPea · 14/10/2024 22:10

We also use the bibado open cup, he's getting better but I definitely still have to hold it. I also have a toy tippee cup for when we're out but that's a work in progress. He probably only drinks 2oz of water a day. Ideally I'd like him to have more but I always forget to offer it outside of meal times.

This 8 month regression is enough to make me not want another 🤣 little man is still awake 🙈

This has to be the worst 1 so far

@CheeseAndCrackersx oh I’m so glad it’s not just me! LO waking up every 30 mins or so for the last three nights, solidarity! Xx

I have one from Amazon 'hahaland 2 in 1'. It had a sippy attachment which I used for 6-8m and then switched to straw :)

Sunshineclouds11 · 15/10/2024 09:05

@msp2023 thanks will have a look!

Dreading clocks going back

Aww bless him!! I feel like he uses an "m" sound when he cries for me. But mine has been saying "ba ba" only for a month 😅 is anyone else's using other letters apart from b when babbling 🧐?

msp2023 · 15/10/2024 19:18

We're getting some dada/baba/mama/tata. None directed at anyone or anything though 😅

Cheetocat · 15/10/2024 21:51

My little one went to bed at 8 and woke up after half an hour, I tried to breastfeed him back to sleep which he happily accepted but he just enjoyed the snack with no intention of sleeping, he's playing on the floor now.. He's getting his two front top teeth so I'm trying to be understanding but I haven't been getting any sleep recently.

I think his open cups are CogniKids brand and he has a water bottle with a straw, I think it's Nuby brand, I'm a bit miffed because it had cute cats on the outside and the design is already washing off.

He babbles dada and baba a lot, still says agoo a bunch too and says mamama when upset. His babbles are sounding a lot more like language though, it's amazing!

CheeseAndCrackersx · 16/10/2024 00:17

What time did he finally settle @Cheetocat?

Tonight my LO went to bed at 9 slept for 15 mins then was back wide awake til 10 to 12 🙈 but he was hysterical to settle cos overtired.

He's getting his top 2 teeth too, you can see them in his gums just wish they'd drop through and things may calm again 🤞🏻

I only got him transferred to his cot at quarter past eleven! I feel like there's always something keeping him from sleeping!

Ihatewinding · 16/10/2024 09:59

@CheeseAndCrackersx @Cheetocat have you tried Anbesol liquid for their gums? It's a liquid anaesthetic you can rub on their gums, you have to ask the pharmacy for it as it's locked away aka "behind the counter" medication. I find it helps them get into a deep sleep as more comfy and then so much better. They can need a top up in night (it's 3 hourly, max 6 times a day) and if that doesn't cut it I give a dose of Calpol. If he wakes more than 3-4 times before midnight then he gets Calpol 🤷🏻‍♀️

He can get bellyache from certain foods so I keep a food diary of sorts as well and avoid things that have a bad night following them. After banana we had 8 wakes and very upset - my first was the same tbh so was prepared but hopeful haha, she tolerated them after 12 months or so I think.

HopeAndStrength · 16/10/2024 10:37

I'm so excited about the babbling, we are getting a funny little "errrro" when he waves! I think it's an attempt to copy us saying hello

CheeseAndCrackersx · 16/10/2024 11:43

He's very frustrated when he gets on all 4s at the minute, he shuffles backwards but today he's losing his 💩 that he won't move forward 🙈

When he starts rocking on all fours that's how you know he'll be taking off soon!

We're having such a hard day, little one is a ball of energy and has bumped his head countless times since this morning, it's infuriating, he wants to play and explore but the second I let him down he's getting hurt! He is at a point where he is starting to let go while standing and he stood by himself for a few seconds multiple times today but he doesn't understand that he'll get hurt from falling.
