Little boy is officially cruising holding onto furniture, our babies are growing up way too fast. 😭

Hello again everyone,

I love reading through all the updates and seeing how everyone is getting on.

Little lady is turning 7 months tomorrow and I'm just wondering when is the right time to introduce a 3rd meal. She currently has breakfast and dinner which she devours but I can't seem to remember when they start eating lunch too?

What is everyone else doing? I know a lot of you are a few weeks ahead of me so are full of useful advice 😁

Advice I read on Deliciously Ella was to start with breakfast and lunch and no need for dinner until 10+ months, so sounds like you’re ready to slot lunch in right away if you and DD feel it’s time.

Sorry, Ella’s Kitchen I meant

Well, my comment a few weeks ago about front sleeping has come back to bite me 🙈 little man has done it twice so far tonight. I've gone in and turned him back both times cos it freaks me out but now I'm like how will I sleep 🙈

@undercoverhero74 my baby is now 8 months and we recently introduced lunch (so now doing breakfast, lunch and dinner). Dinner is still the main meal where lunch is usually either left over dinner, or something more snacky like some veg sticks and a yoghurt. Basically I want allowed to eat my lunch unless he also had food so he we are.

@CheeseAndCrackersx unless he's upset I'd leave him to it. Even if they don't roll themselves back over they are strong enough to lift their heads and lay them to the side so they can breathe. It's so disconcerting to see on the monitor though!

You'll realise he'll sleeper better on his belly and leave him to it 😂

DD is on her belly within 5 mins and starts snoring

Ihatewinding · 02/10/2024 12:41

@CheeseAndCrackersx I agree they will probably sleep better now! Has been the case for both of mine ☺️

@CharXo hope travelling went as smooth as possible and you're enjoying your holiday 🤞🏻are you self catered? I found that much easier when navigating CMPA and feeding my first.

CheeseAndCrackersx · 02/10/2024 13:40

Thank you ladies, I'll try & relax when he does it again, it just panicked me cos he looked face down in to the mattress at 1 point 🙈

OP posts:
Ihatewinding · 02/10/2024 14:33

@CheeseAndCrackersx auww I know what you mean, my first had a period of sleeping face down for a while. Think we kept the cot bed mattress on the firmer side a fair bit past the year mark (ours can be flipped to a less firm side from 1y) and she didn't get a pillow until well past 2 haha. If you're really worried get up close and you can see the nostrils aren't occluded 😅

CheeseAndCrackersx · 07/10/2024 12:29

Little man is getting his first cold, at the minute he just has a cough and is very out of sorts but since he started I've been unwell too; sore throat, blocked nose & body aches.

I'm alternating calprofen & calpol, any other tips ladies?

I know there's kids cough medicine but it says tickle cough, how do you know if it's a tickle cough unless it's yourself 😄

OP posts:
CheeseAndCrackersx · 07/10/2024 12:29

Tickly*

Sunshineclouds11 · 07/10/2024 13:52

Ah DD has just recovered from her second cold!

I don't think the cough syrups work tbh.

I used snufflebabe on soles of feet and chest.
Vapour baby bubbles in the bath.
Calpol.

I did get a Calpol plug in but can't say it made much of a difference really.

Sunshineclouds11 · 07/10/2024 13:52

Hope he feels better soon!

What's everyone thinking of getting for Christmas? I want to get a pickler triangle for my active little one but I can't decide if I should wait for his birthday. I want to follow the want, need, wear, read philosophy to cut down on overconsumption and the triangle will be is want. Maybe an extra sleep sack for his need.

Thewildthingsarewithme · 10/10/2024 16:51

@Cheetocat we do this for birthdays and Christmas for our four year old and will continue with our youngest, it’s great! What I would say though is that we try to make the need also something they would want as it’s very difficult for little ones to get excited about things like sleep sacks. So we will be doing the pickler triangle as a need as it’s supporting his physical development, we will then do something more fun as a want, then usually a really good quality piece of clothing and a beautiful book in hardback which I write a message in. We then do a stocking too with small or useable bits in xx

LavenderSweetPea · 10/10/2024 17:01

@Cheetocat @Thewildthingsarewithme I'm glad I'm not the only one doing the want, need, wear, read approach. I see how many toys other mum's buy and I feel overwhelmed but also a bit guilty, even though I know children don't need much.

I'm buying a backpack and matching water bottle for the need as he will need it in January when he starts nursery. It's still cute though, a fun animal design so I hope he'll like it. I thought about a triangle for the want, but my boy isn't crawling yet or particularly active so I've decided on a play teepee instead. We'll use it as an imagination space and reading nook hopefully!

That makes sense, it does kind of feel like a need when you have an active little one trying to climb everything.

My little one has a Nici backpack with a plush lion who sits in the front and he really likes it! The teepee is a brilliant idea, my little boy climbs inside his toy box so he might like a teepee or a tent to climb into!

Thewildthingsarewithme · 11/10/2024 13:39

@LavenderSweetPea I found it so helpful to stop the overwhelming urge to buy them everything! I remember the piles of presents as a child and it’s hard to shift away from that 90s plastic tat era but I remind myself the childhood memories that stand out are very little do to with gifts and more about family/ experiences. @Cheetocat i do try and balance this with making the need and the want fun as im aware that some kids will get loads of fun gifts but that has worked really well for us with things like new art supplies/ a bike/ animal snack and lunch boxes as the needs

I currently have a 8 month old teenager 😂 little man is currently still asleep 🙈

He's currently going through the habit of not going to bed til 10/11pm
If I put him down any earlier he just treats it like a nap.

Has anyone's baby had "hand, foot and mouth" virus? Currently on day 3 of it, ugh it's awful for him 😔

Meeting · 12/10/2024 20:35

I totally respect the decision of people who don't want to over consume at Christmas but just wanting to say I'm doing the opposite and nobody should feel bad either way.

This is our first Christmas with our first baby, who we waited a long time for so I don't feel any guilt for going completely over the top 🎄

CheeseAndCrackersx · 12/10/2024 21:54

Me too @Meeting 😀
A baby I never thought I would have is going to be spoilt for his first Christmas and birthday 🥰

The whole present thing is all relative to income and personal taste. I think it’s pointless to share / comment online as there will always be someone with a different approach. “You do you”.
