@Thewildthingsarewithme it's excruciating isn't it!
I will push through it and see how we get on. For the life of me I can't remember if I had this problem with my 1st, maybe I just blocked it all out 😂😂

@CheeseAndCrackersx they all seem to be doing so so well! It won't be long and they will starting walking 😭😭

DmcinT · 24/09/2024 19:31

I haven’t been on in a long while, life is just busy isn’t it! LO is all go and needs constant watch now for rolling, pulling herself up on things etc..
she’s still a wee toot in 3-6 month clothes (she’s nearly 8 months) but eating 3 meals a day and loves her food. Toast with peanut butter or humas and porridge for breakfast then lunch & dinner is general whatever we’re having, scrambled egg or omelette is a favourite and she absolutely loves strawberries. Pasta is a big hit too. Beef and chicken were not a hit, I’ve tried both a few times but she actively heaves trying them so off the menu for a while. Oh she loves salmon and sweet potatoes and if we’re out chips seem to be very popular. It’s amazing how they are able to eat away, I was so nervous about choking at the start but have relaxed now since I’ve seen how well they manage food. I haven’t noticed 3 meals helping with nighttime feeds, she still wakes at least 3 times and can be up to 5/6 times a night. She won’t take a dummy so I do feel like I’m the dummy sometimes. We cosleep too so i suppose she has very easy access and i think I’m prob too soft to refuse or try moving her out on her own. Anyone else feel like they’d just miss them too much🫣 I go to bed with her at 7pm also so we’ve no evening together (with OH) which I prob should try fix but I’m not sure how to go about it as she needs me to go to sleep and tends to wake if I try to get up so I’ve just given up on trying. It’s all so temporary and short lived though so I’m just soaking it all up at the min. I’ll miss these times when she doesn’t need me anymore.

we’ve just transitioned to 2 naps over the last 2 weeks, both tend to be 1-1.5 hrs around 10.30 and then 3pm which has been great for a bit more predictability and planning things. She is wrecked come 7pm thou

@Ebonythoughts huge congrats, when are u due? Hope the sickness has eased for u. Anyone else thinking of a 2nd or 3rd/4th? I thought we’d try again soon enough but as time has gone on I now feel like I want to wait until LO is 2 or 3 (only thing is age is not on our side, anyone else early-mid 40s?

sorry for the essay 😂 I didn’t intend on it being that long

msp2023 · 24/09/2024 21:06

@DmcinT
I'm exactly the same with bed sharing! I'm in bed from 7pm and no time with DH. I'm loving it asides from that and feel no rush to move her into her own room/cot.
As you say, it won't last forever and I just want to enjoy it as much as I can 🥰

CheeseAndCrackersx · 24/09/2024 22:00

Does anyone else use Ewan to sheep or any other sleep soother?

Little man has now discovered Ewan and loves to attack him prior to nodding off 😂

CheeseAndCrackersx · 25/09/2024 16:06

The 1 good thing about little man not being a tummy time fan is him currently rolling on his side to sleep only, I think I'd never sleep again if he started to sleep on his front 🙈

He is a proper wiggly worm in his cot now though, this morning I woke to find him sideways, thank god he couldn't get his head stuck in the bars 🤣

Sunshineclouds11 · 25/09/2024 16:35

DD is a belly sleeper!

DS was also 🙈

I was ready to pass out with the pair of them when they first done it haha

CheeseAndCrackersx · 25/09/2024 16:57

Fair play to you @Sunshineclouds11 😄 it's crazy how the min they can roll how they sleep changes 😄

msp2023 · 25/09/2024 17:03

My little one is a belly sleeper too! On top of that, she likes to sleep face first with her head nuzzled into the mattress 🥲
I've gotten used to it now but gosh the panicked moments I've had when woken to see her like that.

A question re: cots... I'm so worried about bumped heads and trapped arms etc. My girl is so wriggly, she often spins 180 and ends up with her head the other way etc.
Bedside crib was soft so it was okay so I'm nervous about the cot! We have a solid wooden one built by FIL so it's super hard :(

Just realised I didn't even ask a question 😅
Has anyone had this problem / how did you deal with it?
Obviously cot bumpers aren't safe so I'm not quite sure what else to do! And what about trapped arms? Feet would be tucked away in sleeping bag so that would be okay

Cheetocat · 25/09/2024 22:25

My little boy is very active, always climbing and standing in his cot and he has fallen down multiple times, there's not really anything you can do, it happens for a while and then they get steadier and also learn to safeguard themselves. I try to pick him up as soon as he wakes and if I need him to lie there while I go to the loo or something I'll give him a toy or something to try distract him from climbing.

He's been sleeping on his belly for a few months, there's no worry as long as they get in position themselves and the mattress is nice and firm.

We very nearly have a tooth! Thank the lord! I feel like little man has been teething forever and it’s been so bad bless him. He has also dropped down on his formula quite a bit now he’s eating meals which is a bit of a worry for me I won’t lie. I am giving him lunch and dinner at the moment and trying to keep his morning and evening bottles going but he’s taking probably half of what he was a few weeks ago. We go on holiday on Sunday and I’m so stressed about how I can give him a bottle on the plane as we have an early flight! Are we allowed to take some formula through in hand luggage? I can’t buy a pre made bottle once through check in because he has CMPA 😵‍💫 anyone have any experience please let me know! I’m so stressed!

Sunshineclouds11 · 26/09/2024 07:59

@CharXo Absolutely fine to take what you need through for feeding baby.
They may just put it in the machine to check it but no limit for baby food.

My experience they didn't batter an eye lid just confirmed it's for the baby

CheeseAndCrackersx · 26/09/2024 09:08

Anyone else had any words in their babbles yet?

I'm convinced he's said mum a couple of times and babba 😀

@msp2023 I wouldn't worry too much about trapped arms, with my first it only happened once in nearly 4 years, she was crying and stuck with her arm through the bars but quick cuddle and popped back in and she never did it again. When get to summer again and lighter weight tog sleeping bags sometimes would see her foot/leg sticking out as thinner material but never got upset about it or got them stuck.

I agree they do learn to stop doing the head bumps, smashing around, etc.

I do get confused sometimes in night when do a dummy run half asleep and get feet where expecting their head to be as done a 180😂

Ihatewinding · 26/09/2024 11:41

@CharXo don't worry about travelling, where are you departing from?
We've typically flown through Manchester and just go straight to the assistance area on the left rather than regular security, they tend to divert you if attempt to go through regular security with a pram or small child. Technically you're meant to take enough formula to cover the journey and any expected delays, but some state a cap of 2000ml.

Are you on nutramigen?
We took formula in tower dispensers. They will typically do a swab of the outside of the containers to check not drugs. The bottles of sterile water go through separately, as do any food pouches over 100ml, so make sure you have everything ready to take out and put in the trays. You will most likely need to collapse the pram and send through as well, so make sure not loads of loose crap in bottom, though when flying through Italy they just drug swabbed it.

Are you taking a car seat? If use a dummy I defo recommend a dummy clip in case drop onto any grimey airport/airplane floors.

I was so apprehensive ahead of our first experience and went on loads of old Mumsnet threads for tips 😅 we travelled regularly with my first to visit family in Italy so any questions feel free to ask!

CharXo · 26/09/2024 12:14

Thank you @Sunshineclouds11 & @Ihatewinding
yes on nutramigen .. I have put 3 tubs in our cases (1 in each incase a suitcase gets lost!)
so am I ok to taken an open tub in his changing bag with a bottle of boiled water or does it have to be a made up bottle? Sorry I just don’t want to get it wrong and then be in a massive panic! I’ve no idea if they’ll let us take the pram on the plane or it’ll have to go with the cases either 😵‍💫 It was a good idea at the time and now it’s getting close I’m so anxious 😥

Ihatewinding · 26/09/2024 13:01

@CharXo the fab thing about nutramigen is it's made with room temperature water so that's one headache sorted! Yes can take a tin, I do recommend a dispenser as well so not having to measure out scoops with all the other travelling palaver.
You can take just the powder and water separately, we took 3 bottles with sterile water in for a 3.5h flight so bit overkill haha but did have a 3+h delay once so was grateful for it! You can take a sippy cup/beaker as well, just say it's sterile water haha.

Do you have a sling? I just kept a soft stretchy one on the whole time so can pop baby in and out as needed.

Typically you can either check the pram at start or you hand it over at the gate/plane. We fly Ryan Air so board plane via outside stairs rather than the direct tunnels. They take the pram off you on the ground in that case (the luggage boarding people tend to come over when they see the pram). If you aren't checking it at the start then make sure to ask for a luggage tag for the pram for when hand it over later. If the airline uses self check in/baggage drop off you need to get the wandering supervisor person to print this off, also for car seat if needed. If taking a car seat to check in then allow extra travel time as need to take to oversized luggage to drop off, same if checking in pram I assume.

As travelling on Sunday, if you have Amazon prime/pay for speedy delivery then I recommend:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000RRD7UG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
(for car seat, also conveniently hides any blankets, packets of wipes, etc you've stashed due to going over luggage allowance, attach luggage tag to handle)
https://amzn.eu/d/2rAcJ4L
(for pram, make sure get right one, umbrella style or separate depending on your pram, when you see the scuffs on the bag on arrival you'll see why good to use, also can attach luggage tag to the handle)
https://amzn.eu/d/8lsbcdw
(good for teething and any ear pain on board, can take a couple sachets in carry on in liquid allowance bag then just dispense onto spoon)

Most airports/airlines have a Travelling with young children section you can check as well.

It's also really hot on airplanes (well ones that fly to Italy anyway) so we always took a short sleeved body suit for changing baby into on flight as roasting otherwise. And we dress lighter for the inevitable contact nap to avoid overheating.

Hope this helps! 😊 When you've done it once, it's so much easier!

Hi Mama's, my LO is growing so quickly we've decided it's time to move on from the infant carrier car seat. I'm sure some of you are thinking the same so I just wanted to share with you some info on car seat safety, which for personal reasons is a subject close to my heart.

It's common and legal in the UK to forward face children in the car from a very early age, and there's a serious lack of awareness of how much safer it is to continue to rear face children to 4 years (or beyond). Sadly legal standards in this country are woefully inadequate compared to a lot of our European neighbors, and a lot of parents don't realize that legal doesn't equal safe. Even big retailers like Halfords will happily sell you a forward facing car seat for a toddler and parents spend a lot of money on inappropriate car seats believing they are doing the best for their children. This video provides a bit more information on why rear facing is so much safer and how it reduces death and serious injury in the event of an accident by over 90%.

Just wanted to share with you all in case you are thinking of what car seat to get next. If you don't know which car seat to get, there's car seat UK safety groups on Facebook etc that can provide you guidance on Swedish tested, rear facing seats for your little ones.

CheeseAndCrackersx · 27/09/2024 19:02

Thank you so much @LavenderSweetPea
After seeing this post I looked and have realised the next car seat we got was for front facing only and I didn't want little man to be doing that anyway. Defo will be buying a new 1 Unsure what to do with the bought 1 now though as had it months so can't return it 🙈
