@Honeyandsunshine1 this is the news story: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c288n8rkpvno.amp sounds like it's affecting southeast more than southwest but maybe the places in your area are picking up the urgent ones from mine and other people are getting appts cancelled if they're less urgent?

Cat2022 · 06/06/2024 20:47

@californiacooper wishing you the best of luck and nice to hear that you are doing okay! Please keep us updated.

My head has been pounding all day today. One more day of work then a week off thankfully. Then I can get going with babyโ€™s room and my various house organisation projects I have planned.

MudandMoet · 06/06/2024 22:53

@californiacooper hey!!!! Lovely to see that for you. I have everything crossed this time is your time. Please keep us posted if you feel like doing so xx

@Xur congratulations on becoming an official Mrs! I honestly had no idea baths weren't advised. I had a steaming one yesterday and even turned onto my tummy for a while and enjoyed the buoyancy for a few mins. Baby fully active though so assume all okay.

@Honeyandsunshine1 ha! That is sooo my bag, unfortunately I am a bit of a potty mouth myself ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

Hello everyone! Long, long time no speak - I really, really hope everyone is doing well. Iโ€™ve missed this group loads! I got completely sidetracked with work & went through a phase (I say went through, Iโ€™m still kind of in it) of feeling totally overwhelmed with the pregnancy and life/work, and just needed to step back for a while. Iโ€™m 27+2 today, which seems CRAZY!

How are you all?! If you can give me a brief update on where youโ€™re at and any major progressions, I would really love to read and catch up. Biggest thing for me is that Iโ€™ve just been diagnosed with gestational diabetes, so thatโ€™s quite a lot to process, but, Iโ€™m trying not to let it get me down. We have a management plan in place so Iโ€™m going to do my very best to keep it under control & hope for the best. Is anyone else in the same boat?

I'm also 27+2 !! Estimated due Sept 3rd, yeah? Ooh how exciting, I wonder which of us will pop first! <3

So sorry to hear about the gestational diabetes diagnosis - I'm not sure if I'm in the same boat but hopefully will find out at next MW appt on the 12th, been having a lot of lower leg swelling, fairly thirsty and PGP, PGP especially getting worse this last week and recommended exercises not helping!

Fingers crossed everything will be good, but we can only wait and see!

How's everyone feeling about "go time"? The closer we get the more I'm getting.. Idk not scared per se, but nervous I suppose? Anxious?
First timer with negative hospital experiences in the past with family members so just have absolutely no idea what to expect!

Ooo thank you for this! A lot of the GPs here use St Thomasโ€™ phlebotomy system so I think thatโ€™s why they all came to a stand still. I imagine mine wonโ€™t get cancelled then as Iโ€™m not with St Thomasโ€™, although was close to choosing it

mrsbgb · 07/06/2024 08:38

@SpicyMoth 26 weeks today and it's just dawned on me that it's not, actually, that long until baby gets here. I think I need to start ordering some things! I've been doing The Birth Uprising hypnobirthing course and listening to a lot of birth story podcasts (I like Pop that Mumma and the Nurture Nest), so weirdly feeling quite excited for birth but a bit all at sea about the keeping a baby alive part that comes after ๐Ÿ˜‚ we start our NCT classes this weekend though so hoping that will make me feel a bit more confident!

Just in the waiting room in between my GTT tests. I think that glucose drink has put me off raspberries for life now ๐Ÿ˜ท

WinsandSam · 07/06/2024 08:52

@Xur you totally can have baths! I wouldn't have survived this far without about 3 a week ๐Ÿ˜‚ sometimes mine a a bit too hot and I get a little dizzy.
Like you I cannot get out the bath, it's a mission. You feel like a seal ๐Ÿฆญ flopping around.

@californiacooper congratulations ๐Ÿฅณ fingers crossed for you! It's a scary place to be so thinking of you x

@HRP1990 haha hills and stairs are evil! Make you feel like you can't breathe and your heart might explode.

Lillers · 07/06/2024 08:54

Got my 24 week appointment today - mineโ€™s with the GP rather than the midwife. Has anyone else had this? Iโ€™m sure theyโ€™ll know what to do but I just feel like Iโ€™ll get there and theyโ€™ll wonder what Iโ€™m there for ๐Ÿ˜‚

mrsbgb · 07/06/2024 09:27

A further update from the joy of the GTT - another lady is now eating a pizza in the waiting room. I am so hungry, this feels very cruel ๐Ÿ˜‚

Lillers · 07/06/2024 09:37

@mrsbgb Noooo! Oh man, I donโ€™t know how youโ€™re coping ๐Ÿ˜‚

MudandMoet · 07/06/2024 10:11

@mrsbgb pizza at just gone 9am! That's a strange brekkie choice! Mind you, each time I've been to the maternity section of the hospital I'll never cease to be amazed by some of the folk in there.
Hopefully the next hour or so passes quickly. I've got mine next week and not looking forward to the hunger at around this time too, it'll be 2 hours of people watching for me behind a magazine or two I'm sure ๐Ÿ˜‚

Cinai · 07/06/2024 10:14

Iโ€™m also in the GTT waiting room ๐Ÿ˜‚ At least they brought my appointment forward from 11.30am to 8.30, otherwise I would have starved. Now fighting heartburn because this sugary drink on an empty stomach just doesnโ€™t agree with me. Only half an hour left for me until my 2nd blood test.

mrsbgb · 07/06/2024 10:18

@Cinai I was lucky to be the first appointment of the day, wouldnโ€™t have coped if it had been later! Nearly time for the second test, do you think they have to take it from the other arm?!
@Lillers reacted in the most British of ways, a mildly disapproving look ๐Ÿ˜‚ @MudandMoet all I can think of now is having a pizza, might be in for a weird breakfast choice myself!

Cinai · 07/06/2024 10:22

@mrsbgb theyโ€™ve already put needles in both of my arms twice because they didnโ€™t manage to find a veinโ€ฆI guess with me they know now where to go and we might use the winning spot again ๐Ÿ˜…Weโ€™re almost thereโ€ฆsoon we can have our well deserved breakfast!

Xur · 07/06/2024 10:50

Talking about big bumps! Hereโ€™s a photo of me trying to get up from this swing chair ๐Ÿคฃ

My husband started taking pictures when he saw Iโ€™m about to try get up ๐Ÿคฃ youโ€™ll need to zoom in on it.

I've got GTT on 24th June. Managed to get 8:30am appointment, but I am usually really hungry when I wake up at the moment (and brushing my teeth on an empty stomach usually makes me throw up!) so I'm dreading it. Hope they manage to get your bloods quick so you can get out and grab some food @Cinai @mrsbgb

I've spent an hour with the VBAC midwife this morning who was so lovely and immensely informative. She even pulled up my notes from DS c-section and I found out loads of things that I never knew about last time round. Only problem is now I've completely changed my stance on my birthing preference - I went in thinking I was 90% for an ELCS, now I've gone the other way and want to try VBAC (depending on outcome of GTT and growth scans). And I'll need to update my hospital bag list as I was writing in terms of ELCS, but now will need to factor in stuff for potentially being in labour. Head is spinning.

Cinai · 07/06/2024 11:34

๐Ÿ˜ญanother 6 unsuccessful attempts to take my blood. I never had this much trouble with it. Then they got an anesthetist in who got it sorted.

mrsbgb · 07/06/2024 11:42

Oh @Cinai ouch! Hopefully you're all done now at least?!

Lillers · 07/06/2024 12:01

I donโ€™t know why I was worrying about this - the doctor was amazing and talked me through everything. We talked about my birth plan and he had insights into the maternity unit Iโ€™ll be in as a doctor and as a dad, as his two babies were born there. Aaaand I didnโ€™t know until half way through the appointment, but he is my friendโ€™s brother! Such a small world.

mrsbgb · 07/06/2024 12:06

@Lillers that sounds a LOT more productive than any midwife appointment I've had! The latest for me is that my NHS trust announced this week it was scrapping its continuity of care model, so we're no longer guaranteed to see the same midwife for each appointment. There hasn't been any mention of birth plans so far!

Lillers · 07/06/2024 12:23

@mrsbgb Thatโ€™s so frustrating. Iโ€™ve been lucky that Iโ€™ve seen the same midwife for most appointments, but I know thatโ€™s just luck because my friend in the same trust and only a few weeks ahead of me has seen someone different every single time!

cd24x · 07/06/2024 12:32

ouch @Cinai! hope you're chilling out after that ordeal!

@mrsbgb what did you have for breakfast in the end? annoying about the continuity of care at your trust! surely that's going to end up causing a lot more delays as every time you have an appt the new person will need to review your notes?!

@Lillers glad your appt was productive. Great that you got advice from both the doctor and dad perspectives!

Cinai · 07/06/2024 12:37

Thanks @mrsbgb @cd24x its all done now and Iโ€™m having a croissant and decaf cappuccino ๐Ÿ˜Š
Can anyone confirm whether we were allowed to drink water in between the two blood tests? My info sheet said โ€˜no food after 8pm the night before, but you can drink waterโ€™. I took it that I can have water anytime, but the midwife said that I shouldnโ€™t have drunk water in between the tests. Really hope that I didnt skew the results and went through this hassle for nothing ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ

mrsbgb · 07/06/2024 12:40

@Cinai I was told I could drink water, just not too much, so Iโ€™m sure youโ€™ll be fine!

@cd24x very boring in the end I just had toast, but then had a Thai curry for lunch at 11.30 ๐Ÿ˜‚

cd24x · 07/06/2024 12:47

@Cinai one of the ladies i go to aqua natal with had hers a few weeks ago and said that she was given half a plastic cup of water by the midwife and that was all she was allowed after the drink and between the blood tests.

@mrsbgb thai curry sounds great right now. i've got absolutely nothing in the cupboards, so might go out and get a mcdonalds ๐Ÿ˜‹
