As requested a new thread for us all! ๐Ÿฅฐ can't believe its thread 7 already!

Then hopefully by thread 14 we'll all have our babies in our arms talking all things post partum!

@MudandMoet my first shower must have been around 4 hours or so after DS was born (DH wasn't there and I remember him going home around 9pm as COVID restrictions still in place, DS was born at 6:30pm). I had a midwife stay in the room, but this was because I was taken back to delivery suite after my C section for additional observation after a large post partum haemorrhage rather than straight to postnatal ward. They were really pushing me to get up after my epidural wore off, plus I vomited all over my hair in theatre so just felt grim so asked if I could. I vividly remember being starkers in the en suite with a random midwife just standing near to the door in case I collapsed part way through ๐Ÿคฃ if I was transferred to postnatal ward, I would have waited til DH was there. But depending on your birth you might get to stay for a while with your partner on delivery and be discharged straight from there, and they all have en suites.

I had no idea what to do when needing the toilet when on postnatal. So I'd leave DS in the bay, but I didn't like doing it! Although I guess I could have wheeled the little cot thing in there with me if I knew I would take a while.

MudandMoet · 03/06/2024 21:06

Thanks ladies. I am so surprised you can have a shower so soon after a section. I assumed they'd want you to try and keep it dry for a day or two. All sounds varied depending what type of room you end up with and what time birth is etc with partners being there.

I am taking some extra throw away cheap flip flops because I can't stand on shower floors that aren't my own, it makes me feel sick, I'm the same with teeth brushing in other sinks, just a bit of a phobia I think. I know I have zero control over this but I'm hoping to be in hospital for as little time as possible.

Xur · 03/06/2024 22:06

Last appointment my midwife asked me if I have any diabetes in my immediate family, but I have none so it looks like I will not be doing the diabetes test. To be honest sweet stuff grosses me out so just a thought about drinking that syrup makes me want to gag.

@MudandMoet Iโ€™m the same and Iโ€™m also constantly questioning the corners of other peopleโ€™s bathrooms. Whenever I need to stay at a hotel I will often choose based on the tidiness reviews.

FuppinNora · 03/06/2024 22:16

With going to the toilet, I just asked the woman next to me to keep an eye on baby. Showering was done with nurse standing outside and husband with baby.

MudandMoet · 03/06/2024 22:24

This is me too. The thought of seeing someone else hair in the sink or plug hole literally makes me gag thinking about it.

WinsandSam · 03/06/2024 22:27

Regarding diabetes testing, the consultant told me I'd need to have it. I have a normal BMI but am 40 with an underactive thyroid. I have a scan and consultant appointment in 2 weeks (26 weeks) but haven't been given the date for the test.

Like others I can't share rooms/bathrooms so the thought is freaking me out. It's like swimming pools and changing rooms ๐Ÿคฎ yuck!!

MudandMoet · 03/06/2024 22:34

@WinsandSam oh god they're the worst ever!! (Swimming pools/changing rooms!)

Another question. So apparently we have to wash everything before baby comes... when is a good time to do this? Now? A few weeks before? (but then what if they come early) I've got a full wardrobe for baby girl now and 32 million muslins, bibs and blankets, hopefully not much will need ironing ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿผ

Xur · 03/06/2024 22:38

If Iโ€™m being honest the whole idea of hospital setting is giving me the ick. I know for a fact hospitals are dirty af. That is why actually I was debating on a birth at a private hospital, because in the private hospitals the rooms are much tidier and stuff is generally better maintained.

in a hospital you touch any handle and have shaken hands with a whole town.

*adds dettol wipes to the hospital bag list ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿผ

SantasRubiksCube · 04/06/2024 07:18

I definitely always take some cheap flip flops to shower in for hospital, I didn't for my first baby (didn't cross my mind) and I ended up with a huge painful veruca on my foot that had to be treated by a GP ๐Ÿคข there was no where else I had been to have got one so I guessed I'd caught it from the shower room at the hospital, never had one before or since.

malimoon · 04/06/2024 07:33

I like to swim so am always using public showers, I hadn't really thought twice about this ๐Ÿ˜… maybe I just have low standards hahaha

cd24x · 04/06/2024 08:44

@MudandMoet I think standard advice is to have hospital bag for you and baby ready by 37 weeks (assume this is for pregnancies that are normal risk), so you'd need to have washed everything by then. I've just looked back at my photos on my phone from last time and sent my nan a pic of all the baby washing on the line (cause it looked so cute!) on 6th March, DS was born 28th May. So I would have been about 6.5 months pregnant. I was very organised back then!

Cat2022 · 04/06/2024 10:42

I have some strong nesting urges going on atm. Like clearing out drawers, reorganising all the cupboards, binning anything and everything ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ I swear this didnโ€™t happen till MUCH later last time. Got some online training to do this morning so of course Iโ€™m scrubbing the kitchen cupboards with it on in the background.

TripleESept24 · 04/06/2024 11:16

I have my 25 week midwife appointment this afternoon.

I'm feeling really low and crap. I've had a headache since Saturday. And I have absolutely no energy or drive so am envious of all of you doing your nesting ๐Ÿ˜”

MudandMoet · 04/06/2024 12:12

@cd24x I'm 28 weeks tomorrow so the next sunny spell we have I'll get it done. I can't wait to see it all on the line too ๐Ÿ’•

@TripleESept24 hopefully the MW can give you some advice on getting rid of that headache. It does make you feel lousy because paracetamol just doesn't touch some headaches. Hope you're okay xx

@SantasRubiksCube noooo! Thats definitely nailed it for me, if I pack nowt else the flip flops will be first in the bag ๐Ÿ˜‚

HRP1990 · 04/06/2024 14:24

Iโ€™ve just had an email to let me know the paint and wallpaper had been delivered while weโ€™re away. Canโ€™t wait to start operation nursery!! Iโ€™m hoping once that room is ready Iโ€™ll then get into nesting mode and start washing things. Iโ€™ve bought a few things on vinted, been given ALOT and then kept a few gender neutral bits from my daughter.

On a side note, any second timers given birth to a breach baby? I know itโ€™s way off at 26 weeks and he has ages to turn, but it just occurred to me if he doesnโ€™t.. will I be given the choice of a C section? Iโ€™m sure Iโ€™ve heard feet first is painful (like childbirth isnโ€™t already๐Ÿฅน)

SC126 · 04/06/2024 14:30

@HRP1990 not me personally but a friend just had a c section because baby was breech and attempts to turn failed. It was actually advised to do over trying natural so you will definitely be offered a c section if it happens. But still tons of time to turn dont worry.

Thatโ€™s good to know. The midwife said only 3% are born breech, but heโ€™s been that way since the 20 week scan and it just dawned on me randomly earlier lol. Also, the thought of manually turning a full term baby makes me cringe. I bet itโ€™s agony!

Lillers · 04/06/2024 15:09

@HRP1990 My friend had this - she did get the baby turned successfully (which she said was uncomfortable but not as bad as she thought, and it was over very quickly), but then she sprang back again the next day so she had a c section.

Ritagoestohollywood · 04/06/2024 18:50

Sorry just back to GTT test you have reminded me I have mine coming up in 2 weeks and after looking at the symptoms I am nervous.

I am very thirsty, peeing loads and very tired but these are also common โ€˜being symptomsโ€™ too

I have reduced down the sugary snacks and trying to get my 10000 steps in a day. I work in an office so isnโ€™t always easy on my working days to do. Non working days with my 3 and 8 year old are fine.

I am not doing much other exercise because I am too tired and 2 other children to care for,

are other people managing to fit in abit of exercise/maintain their pre pregnancy exercising? X x

TripleESept24 · 04/06/2024 18:59

Had 25 week appointment today. Listened to heartbeat, which is always nice!

They started the measuring this week and we have to go every 3 weeks now until 34 weeks and then every 2 weeks! They said today she was under average on the green line/chart thing but said this is normal and in 3 weeks she could be on the average green line or all could change!

Anyone else measuring small first time/on 25 week appointment??

She also told me off said not drinking enough water and this and the work stress is causing the headaches. I have to make sure I'm having enough water and do some meditation!!!! Thinking of trying to find a pregnancy yoga nearby too.

TripleESept24 · 04/06/2024 19:00

Oh and also is everyone having the whooping cough vaccine? I didn't have it with my daughter 20 years ago but she really recommended it as baby is covered then before they have it themselves at 8 weeks.

PoppingUp · 04/06/2024 19:20

@Ritagoestohollywood im impressed that you're managing 10,000 steps a day! I've got a proper max speed limit now, particularly uphill, so I'm taking myself out for wee walks but realistically I'm probably closer to 4000 steps. I'm doing a weekly gentle yoga class but that's all exercise wise for me for now. My body seems happy with the gentler place though. Previous weightlifting and yoga seems to have given my body a good base level that it's currently forgiving me for not doing anything to maintain! ๐Ÿ˜…

@TripleESept24 I had the vaccine - all the midwifes in the region were ill with whooping cough a week or so after I had my vaccine so I feel very lucky that I avoided catching it! It's definitely doing the rounds this year so I think it's a good idea. I also asked about an early flu vaccine in September and the midwife said they don't normally have it in that early but has put a note on my file and said I can have it if they do end up getting it in.

Xur · 04/06/2024 19:24

@TripleESept24
I am waiting for my whooping cough vaccine to come through. My midwife said was going to ask for it to be booked and I have to wait for a letter now.

I still go to gym, atleast 2 x a week. Normally I do 1 hr 20 to 1hr 40 gym sessions.

LSW82 · 04/06/2024 20:21

@TripleESept24 we normally get the whooping cough vaccine with midwife at 16 wk appointment but as mine was before 16wks I couldn't get it, will be getting it at next midwife appt which is on Monday
