@longingtobe23 @Cinai I've got mine on Friday morning too (thankfully it starts at 8.15 so will hopefully not be TOO bad on the starvation front!) and feeling weirdly anxious about it as well. My midwife said try not to have anything too high-carb the night before as it can skew the results, so will try and follow that!

longingtobe23 · 03/06/2024 10:29

@Cinai what an awful time!
mine is 9:30 but an hour from home with the rush house traffic ๐Ÿซฃ such fun!

I have also noticed some darkening on my neck - indicating insulin resistance I got rid of all of this before my wedding (I had gained a lot in lockdown!) so overhauled my diet I didnโ€™t know I had PCO then!
but since pregnant rely a lot on simple plain (probably shit) meals not very often but a lot more than normal.
its much easier for me to grab a panini at work for example โ€ฆ anyway I will see.
not the end of the world if I do have it. But a bit more effort involved.

MrsM89 · 03/06/2024 13:09

I've my gtt on Thursday too but will be 26weeks. Can't say I'm looking forward to it. I'm sick in the morning still if I don't eat a snack before getting up so pretty sure I'll be sick on Thursday.

Emmaev · 03/06/2024 13:14

Iโ€™m really struggling to imagine pushing a baby out or having contractions. I didnโ€™t have any of this first time round and was a quick emergency c section after a scan an hour before.

Im 27 weeks today and next week weโ€™ll have our first growth scan, im really praying that baby girl is growing well. Our daughter already had signs of igur at this point. Sheโ€™s very active, far more active than my daughter. So Iโ€™m hoping itโ€™s a sign that sheโ€™s really growing on track. Itโ€™s so hard to imagine a healthy 40 week pregnancy right now

rupertbear91 · 03/06/2024 13:19

Does everyone get offered GTT testing? It wasn't mentioned at my 24 week appointment and I have a 28 week booked in but it didn't say anything about fasting etc so assume I don't need to!

cd24x · 03/06/2024 13:22

@rupertbear91 I have been offered GTT because my BMI is high and there is diabetes within immediate family. If you've only got normal 28 week bloods booked in and no information about GTT (I was given separate info sheet) then I'd assume you don't need it.

longingtobe23 · 03/06/2024 13:24

@rupertbear91 no not everyone! family history - certain conditions and if youโ€™ve had it before will prompt them to book it for you
oh and BMI - but I know a friend who refused it just because of BMI - and they said she didnโ€™t need too ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

Cinai · 03/06/2024 13:26

@rupertbear91 different trusts have different guidelines when to offer a GTT. My first one offered me one, my current one doesnโ€™t although Iโ€™m over 40 and have a high BMI, apparently they only do it if diabetes is in the family. I ended up booking one privately because frankly I think itโ€™s a silly risk not to do one if over 40 and high BMI. However, if I was younger, normal BMI and no other risk factors Iโ€™d be far less concerned.

Fik88 · 03/06/2024 14:08

I have mine too on Thursday, so glad mine is at 8.15, think I'd be passing out if not. I have mine due to high bmi and diabetes in the family. Not looking forward to it because they always struggle to find a vein ๐Ÿ˜ซ

MudandMoet · 03/06/2024 14:17

@longingtobe23 @Cinai mine is a week tomorrow at 08:10 (I thought they did them all early for the fasting reason) I'll be 28 + 6. I'm also very thirsty these days and wonder if this is sure fire sign that I'm going to be positive ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

I need to read the sheet because I don't even know if water is allowed after midnight or whatever and I have to have a bottle of water at the side of the bed because I wake up so thirsty.

@Emmaev fingers crossed you make it to full term this time and have the birth you want. I imagine the worry of the same happening again is always there. Did they say there's a higher chance of the same happening again due to your last pregnancy going that way or is that not necessarily the case?

Emmaev · 03/06/2024 14:32

@MudandMoet my consultant said the chances of pre eclampsia or gestational hypertension were high. But that itโ€™s all a guessing game at the moment on what will happen. Just regular monitoring and aspirin which I hope will help. Everything has been fine at the moment, but I think the growth scan will be more of an indication.

Due to the severity of it first time round, Iโ€™ve come to peace that the likelihood of getting it again will probably happen. If it doesnโ€™t I will be pleasantly surprised. But feel as if I also want to be prepared in my mind if it were to happen again.

MudandMoet · 03/06/2024 14:51

@Emmaev I bet you can't wait for that scan next week then to see the growth. It's good that they're monitoring you closely. How many weeks were you last time when they picked it up?

DontKnow1988 · 03/06/2024 16:52

Has anyone found a cure for their snoring? DH is complaining our bedroom sounds like Heathrow at night. My snoring is very consistent apparently, in any position, and perfectly rhythmic so it's not sleep apnea lol.

Lillers · 03/06/2024 17:03

@rupertbear91 My trust said they do mini glucose testing for everyone, and then the full test for anyone with a risk factor or whose results suggest they need further investigation. My midwife told me that they are in the process of changing it to everyone having the full test, because so many people hit at least one risk factor or get referred from the mini test, but she said Iโ€™d probably be fine because they werenโ€™t changing for a few more weeks. Then my appointment letter came through and it was for the full test ๐Ÿ˜ญ. I asked my midwife and she said they must have switched to the new system a few weeks early.

Emmaev · 03/06/2024 17:17

@MudandMoet last time it was my 31 week midwife appointment they found protein and I had high bp. She was born at 33+6 so between then was a lot of hospital visits , scans and peeing.
But looking back I probably began to develop it around 25 weeks, when we went for a private scan they kept saying she was small and dainty. Then I had a lot of swelling in my hands and feet around 28 weeks but put it down to the hot weather.

Im also in the snoring crew, itโ€™s usually when I go on my back so maybe itโ€™s my bodies way of saying go on your side, because it wakes my partner up and he pushes me over haha.

Emmaev · 03/06/2024 17:19

My midwife briefly mentioned at my 25 week appointment about the glucose test then looked at my notes and said oh no you donโ€™t need it

Nothing has worked for me yet either! if you find anything that works do let me know!! ๐Ÿ˜…

TripleESept24 · 03/06/2024 17:30

I haven't had a glucose test mentioned! I'm 38 and I have a normal BMI so assuming I don't need it, but have my 25 week appointment tomorrow so will check!

MudandMoet · 03/06/2024 18:00

@Emmaev crikey so she was really early. Were you all ready at that point? That must've been scary at 33 weeks.

Daft question time folks - when you go for a shower after birth - how soon is it (with epidural and without) and does someone come and watch the baby while you go?

SC126 · 03/06/2024 18:20

@MudandMoet i had an emergency c section with topped up epidural and I didn't have a shower for like 2 days after ๐Ÿคฃ I could have gone after 24hrs though when the catheter was removed. They didn't offer to watch baby so I waited until my husband was around. Also no one to watch baby when you went toilet which was nerve-wracking. September is busiest month of the year for babies and the ward was FULL so it took a bit of time for staff to come when you press the buzzer.

Emmaev · 03/06/2024 18:30

@MudandMoet no not ready at all haha, we didnโ€™t have a pram or a car seat at that point. But she was in nicu for 5 weeks so we got it all then. Even when they told me she would come early it didnโ€™t process in my head until she actually arrived. Pregnancy is a crazy ride

MrsM89 · 03/06/2024 20:03

My first birth I was in overnight as had a spinal and catheter. No one offered to watch baby for toliet or shower so I waited for shower till my hubby was there.
My second labour. The lovely midwife who did my stitches ran me a bath in the delivery suite still less than 4 hours after I'd given birth.
Xx

longingtobe23 · 03/06/2024 20:05

@MudandMoet i had a shower maybe 3-4hrs later, memory is hazy there but in the room I gave birth, husband held baby, I had epidural and stitches and waddled in ๐Ÿ˜‚

I kept shouting (all okay) is everything okay? lol - he was like woman youโ€™ve been gone 10 minutes. I didnโ€™t wash my hair ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿซฃ

then I rode up to the ward for the night as he needed testing for 24 hrs before I left for home.

best / weirdest shower of my whole existence

longingtobe23 · 03/06/2024 20:09

@MrsM89 yes when I was left alone that night with babyโ€ฆ I had to push him around on the cot on wheels to the bathroom. (Which was a bumpy floor from memory so poor baby)

and anywayโ€ฆ I didnโ€™t wash the next day (when arguably you want a shower more!) the ward was so hot and stuffy and sweaty and I slept for about 2 hrs โ€ฆ but it was a shared bathroom then too so I didnโ€™t feel comfortable showering / using the loo. I just cried until I could go home (left at 2pm)

my sister managed to swindle a private room after her last birth, but agree September is heaving Iโ€™m always told. So I wonโ€™t hold my breath. You can pay for the room I was told - but she didnโ€™t have to!

Cat2022 · 03/06/2024 20:12

@MudandMoet for mine they sent me for a shower before I was transferred to the postnatal ward so dad stayed with baby and a midwife waited outside the shower room in case I felt unwell at all. This was after no epidural and mustโ€™ve been within a couple hours of birth.
