@HRP1990 i'm 23 and a bit weeks and yeah it's not as straight a line as I'd expected. I suppose when my belly stretches more it'll end up looking neater!

It's funny how even when it feels like nothing much is happening in the pregnancy there's still all these wee changes going on in the background.

Cinai · 21/05/2024 21:53

23 weeks and Iโ€™m feeling a bit short of breath for the first time. Itโ€™s like my lungs donโ€™t inflate fully. Iโ€™m pretty sure thatโ€™s to do with everything expanding and pushing it things upโ€ฆdoes anyone else experience this?

mrsbgb · 21/05/2024 22:14

@Cinai yes experiencing the same thing! Weirdly fine when Iโ€™m working out, it more takes me by surprise going round the house - I suppose when Iโ€™m not focusing on my breathing as much?

On a separate note, Iโ€™ve got another scan tomorrow with the consultant to check on babyโ€™s kidney - we were told the extra scans were pretty routine and they werenโ€™t expecting to see any further deterioration, but feeling a bit on edge about it. Iโ€™ve also got an appointment with a different consultant next week as I had a colposcopy a few years ago so they need to check my cervix is holding up (fun!), the gestational diabetes test the week after that, and then realised that as itโ€™s my first baby Iโ€™m then on to the three weekly midwife appointments (at a minimum, if thereโ€™s nothing further from any of the above). Feeling very medicalised at the moment and a bit down about it - not quite the straightforward pregnancy I think we all hope for so causing quite a lot of anxiety unfortunately. Add in some pregnancy hormones and there have been quite a few tears today!

WinsandSam · 22/05/2024 07:25

@Cinai I've had this this I first discovered I was pregnant.. although it's a little better second trimester. Stairs and hills are killers! Walking flat surfaces are better. Any bending down to pick things up/put on shoes makes me breathless and dizzy. I'm also asthmatic so it isn't great. I think I've gotten used to it as still walk a lot as know it isn't hurting me

WinsandSam · 22/05/2024 07:28

@mrsbgb that sounds really stressful for you! I hope the scan goes well though.

I think a fair few of us are consultant led or have more scans and appointments. I'm also having more, next at 25 weeks, diabetes test, will also be 3 weekly midwife appointments. I feel very medicalised too, was discussing it yesterday with someone. All risks etc

MrsM89 · 22/05/2024 08:17

@mrsbgb hope all goes well today with the scan xx

@mrs

mrsbgb · 22/05/2024 09:21

Thank you @WinsandSam I needed that reassurance! Some of my friends who are pregnant are saying about how little they see their midwife etc and I was feeling very down about the fact it seems like Iโ€™m always at the hospital! @MrsM89 pleased to say that everything is as good as it can be - weโ€™ve had a diagnosis of Multicystic dysplastic kidney but his other one is still looking healthy. And heโ€™s still enormous, +90th percentile for everything and the screen suggested his measurements were about a week ahead!

MrsM89 · 22/05/2024 09:36

@mrsbgb glad everything is looking good for the other kidney and he's growing super well. Nice to be reassured at this point. I'm finding the scan wait really hard atm. 22-32 weeks seems so long. I have got consultant, midwife and gtt all before that. Xx

SC126 · 22/05/2024 10:33

@mrsbgb glad to hear the scan went as well as could be again.

Anyone else suffering with heartburn? Its not even just at night. I get it all day long ๐Ÿ™„ didn't have this in my first pregnancy.

rupertbear91 · 22/05/2024 10:38

@mrsbgb I'm really glad all went well

@SC126 I was a few weeks ago horrendously I have upped the omoprozol I was already on for my HG as gavascon wasn't touching it and it seems to have settled now.

Anyone else really dizzy at the minute? The last few days I have been so tired and light headed I feel really nervous going out incase I pass out. Tempted to ask midwife next week if they can check my iron levels but not sure if they do that. I thought we would have more blood tests when pregnant but I haven't been offered any since my 8 week booking appointment

SC126 · 22/05/2024 11:00

@rupertbear91 obviously get your iron levels checked anyway if that will help. But I do know that dizziness in pregnancy is really common, I know several friends that suffered throughout pregnancy and midwife didn't help much. The advice is to make sure you stand or sit up slowly, eat little and often, drink plenty of fluids etc. And if you do feel faint I would sit down to prevent the risk of falling from height. Just incase.

Decaffe · 22/05/2024 11:11

So glad things went well this morning @mrsbgb, Iโ€™m really pleased for you ๐Ÿ˜Š Are you and your DH tall?!

Cat2022 · 22/05/2024 11:46

@rupertbear91 I have been feeling dizzy on and off for the past week. I thought it was the heat but itโ€™s cooler now and still getting it so just trying to take it a bit easier.

Decaffe · 22/05/2024 12:09

Just had a phone call with my c section date - 17th September! And itโ€™ll be with the wonderful surgeon who did my endometriosis surgery, without whose skill and expertise I would never have become pregnant. Itโ€™s going to be emotional! ๐Ÿ˜ญ

mrsbgb · 22/05/2024 12:25

@MrsM89 the wait does feel painful in between! But Iโ€™m taking it as a good sign that the scans arenโ€™t even more frequent as that suggests thereโ€™s less to be worried about (or so Iโ€™m telling myself!) x

@Decaffe yep relatively so, Iโ€™m 5โ€™10 and my husband is 6โ€™4 so not a huge surprise that baby is on the chunkier side! So exciting to have your c section date in!

@SC126 yes heartburn is a nightmare and seems to come on at quite random times?! Trying to eat little and often which seems to help but doesnโ€™t really fit with a working day!

SC126 · 22/05/2024 12:26

@Decaffe oh you are so lucky already getting a date. I was told I wont find out until 36 weeks ๐Ÿ™„

Xur · 22/05/2024 12:34

Do people have experience with how long do we have to wait for the baby expo stuff to be delivered to us?

RosiePH · 22/05/2024 12:39

@Xur did you ask for it to be delivered right away? For everything I bought they asked me when I needed it so I went for August, which they said would be the 8-12 week option. There were quicker timescales available to choose.

Cinai · 22/05/2024 12:44

Oh wow, already a c-section date in this thread, time will fly by. @Decaffe how many weeks will you be for your c-section? Iโ€™m planning to have this conversation at my next consultant appointment in 2 weeks time.

malimoon · 22/05/2024 12:47

That is so exciting to have your date @Decaffe . I have an appointment in about 3 weeks to discuss my fibroids after which I guess maybe I might get mine??? We'll see.

My partner has just had the verdict on his knee, which he injured about six weeks ago - he has to have surgery to replace his meniscus and his ACL. Day surgery with general anaesthetic, then he will be on crutches. They said back to work in a week but then a year, with physio, to get full function back. He told them he has baby on the way so they will try to schedule him either for early August or for November... Going to be an interesting second half of the year for us ๐Ÿ˜…

RosiePH · 22/05/2024 12:48

@Decaffe thatโ€™s so exciting!
Mine is on the 23rd at 39+1, and knowing has made planning when to finish work so much easier!

Hopefully I wonโ€™t get bumped to later in the week as Iโ€™m not sure how paternity leave works for teachers. I feel like if he starts it on the day I expect to have the section, and then get bumped for a few days later, he might not be able to go back to work in between and then have the full 2 weeks once the baby is born. As it is only the bare minimum he can have (and no chance of any holiday to take!), we want to maximise the time together post-section.

rupertbear91 · 22/05/2024 12:58

@malimoon my partner found out on Friday he needs a partial knee replacement so we are headed for Knee surgery this year too! I am really hoping it doesn't come through around baby due date!

@RosiePH mine is a teacher too and he's just planning on giving them a rough date and telling them on the day he has to leave. I guess yours could give them an estimate of the 23rd and say subject to change ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ it's rubbish they don't get to take extra holiday over paternity leave and we have to wait till October half term for any more time together although I am very jealous that he worked out by the time the baby goes to school he will have had a year of his life off with him in school holidays

Xur · 22/05/2024 12:58

@RosiePH we asked when it will be delivered they said soon and one of them had a form that said earliest delivery 3-6 weeks, for the second we didnโ€™t even get like an online invoice, they gave us a hand written one. We took a call about the delivery details on the handwritten one, they said should be out of their warehouse by end of last week, said would call to arrange a date, but a week later and no comms have followed.

sooooโ€ฆ.itself all a bit too messy for our liking tbh ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

Decaffe · 22/05/2024 13:12

@RosiePH, it isnโ€™t legal for statutory paternity leave to start before the baby is born. So if heโ€™s with you in hospital but baby doesnโ€™t arrive for a couple of days then he needs to have a conversation with his employer about whether those days are unpaid or paid on a discretionary basis.

(Edit to add, my section will be in the afternoon so I too am a little worried I might be bumped, in which case DH will have to have a similar conversation!)

Iโ€™ll be 39+5 for the section. I was also offered 39+1 but itโ€™s a Friday, and Iโ€™ve heard bad things about trying to get discharged on a Saturday due to minimal staffing.

Also, Iโ€™m still sure about โ€˜myโ€™ dates being more accurate than the 12 week scan; I maintain theyโ€™ve put me four days ahead! So although the NHS will say itโ€™s 39+5, I think really the section will be at 39+1! Another reason for not wanting the Friday before, as by my dates that would only be 38+4.

malimoon · 22/05/2024 13:36

@rupertbear91 oh no! Well fingers crossed for a good surgery date for your hubby, what bad timing eh
