Piercing ears on a baby.

I'm due to have my baby in November and my baby dad is saying he wants the baby to have pierced ears which I am not ok with. Am I wrong in saying no? Everyone has there own opinions on this but I am 100% stuck on my decision that I do not want my baby to have their ears pierced. ( when they are older of course but not as a baby ). Am I wrong for this? First time mum here.

You’re not wrong. Why does he want to do it so badly?

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 01/05/2024 21:47

He wants to inflict pain on a baby?

Is he okay?

PoochiesPinkEars · 01/05/2024 21:47

You feel strongly about it, why would that be wrong?
Most babies don't have their ears pierced so I don't think you're in a minority.
Babies can't consent so your baby daddy would be inflicting that on your baby for... What?

Runnerinthenight · 01/05/2024 21:47

Definitely not!

You call him "baby daddy" - are you together?

dementedpixie · 01/05/2024 21:47

My dd is 20 and hasn't got pierced ears as she doesn't want then done. It's not something I'd do to a baby

Yes I know, it's not just my baby dad who likes it, there's many people including moms who like pierced ears on a baby. I'm a first time mum and I just wondered if this was wrong of me to say no. Thanks for your message.

25 yo the same.

Ear piercing looks so tacky on a baby, and a small child could damage her ears.

Been a while since we've had this topic

It won't be that he wants to inflict pain he said it looks cute that's all but I think it's tacky in my opinion

He has mentioned it to me a few times and I disagree with him

No. You're not wrong. I am not a judgemental person, but I judge very strongly people who put their babies and very young dc through completely unnecessary cosmetic procedures. Including boys getting circumcised.

Yes we are together it's just easier to say baby dad haha

I wouldn't if that's how you feel. If I had girls I wouldn't either not until they asked.

I do remember when the use to offer it in the hospital when babies were born! Might not have happen in the UK though but was common in North America.

fashionqueen1183 · 01/05/2024 21:52

A reputable piercer wouldn’t do a baby’s ears anyway. Most you have to wait until 8-10.
My child recently got theirs done and you have to sit really still while they swap the needle for an earring. I can’t begin to imagine a baby doing that! Yikes.
He can get his old ears done if he’s that bothered!

BubziOwl · 01/05/2024 21:52

Grim and tacky imo

Ladyprehensile · 01/05/2024 21:52

I’ve seen it done to babies on the continent but not in the UK.
You are the mum. Stand your ground.

Imagine your little one’s cries as the pain is inflicted for the dubious sake of “cuteness.”

Tell him he’d look cute with a stud through his foreskin & see what he says.

GrazingSheep · 01/05/2024 21:53

You called him your husband in your thread about moving to the US with his job and giving birth there. Lol.

You're only 2 months pregnant and you're already arguing about whether or not to get your baby's ears pierced?? Sure

Oh well, that's good, because OP says she's going to give birth in the USA.

GrazingSheep · 01/05/2024 21:55

Maybe he might 🙄
