Piercing ears on a baby.

I'm due to have my baby in November and my baby dad is saying he wants the baby to have pierced ears which I am not ok with. Am I wrong in saying no? Everyone has there own opinions on this but I am 100% stuck on my decision that I do not want my baby to have their ears pierced. ( when they are older of course but not as a baby ). Am I wrong for this? First time mum here.

It's fine to say you don't want your baby's ears pierced. I'm getting a vibe that you might be back on mumsnet in 6 months time telling us your husband got your kid's ears pierced behind your back.

This.

It looks gross. It's an infection hazard. It's an injury hazard (can easily be pulled out). All for vanity. Why would you?

I agree! 100%

@TheShellBeach I also pay my taxes like anyone else in the UK so i will be entitled to FREE dental care like anyone else who is pregnant and a UK resident. What's it got to do with you anyways, looking through my posts looking for an argument haha wtf are you ok.?

Fine, thanks.

Charlie2121 · 01/05/2024 22:08

Why not get “chav” tattooed on her forehead instead? It’d have a similar effect.

Actually thinking about it that’s not fair on the baby as it’s not their choice. I suggest your DP is the one to have the tattoo on his own head.

mommabear14 · 01/05/2024 22:06

@TheShellBeach must be a boring life for you. I feel for you. How does it feel the only excitement you get is to start fights on mumsnet, embarrassing

I didn't see her "start a fight"?

mommabear14 · 01/05/2024 22:11

@Runnerinthenight I specifically asked a question regarding ear piercing and she is commenting things looking for an argument and bringing bad vibes. I don't need it nor I don't want it.

It won't be that he wants to inflict pain he said it looks cute that's all but I think it's tacky in my opinion

Remind him that babies look cute without the need for jewellery. Why does he think his baby girl needs permanent holes put in her ears to look cute?

Whether he intends it or not, piercing hurts. Babies cry when it is done because it hurts them. It's not right to deliberately inflict pain on a baby.

Reputable piercing places won't pierce a baby.

mommabear14 · 01/05/2024 22:12

@Runnerinthenight making little comments and digs which has absolutely nothing to do with her, thanks for your input btw.

Is this not the sort of thing most couples sort out before getting married and making babies? I can't imagine agreeing to marry the sort of chap who thought tiny babies should have their ears pierced because it looks cute.

I imagine a baby dad is a man who has copulated and has, with a woman, created a baby. That man may be a one night stand, bloke you know, boyfriend, fiance, partner or husband.

What will your baby dad want if your 8 week old foetus is a boy? Does he think pierced ears look cute on boys too.

It all sounds odd.

He also has different views and culture as we are from different parts of the world, maybe it's this?

Erm... you do understand the concept of posting on a public website?

mommabear14 · 01/05/2024 22:15

But I specifically asked a question regarding ear piercing, if you just come on a post to make digs then it says alot about you as a person and the life you live. You are free to say whatever you like but I don't care about it unfortunately.

@Runnerinthenight yes I do, are you finished or you want to keep putting your 2p in?

And nobody actually cares whether or not you care. That's the way it works. You have made nasty digs back too - you aren't coming across well here tbh.

I'll put my 2p in as you so elegantly express it as much or as little as I'm inclined to.

Haha.

mommabear14 · 01/05/2024 22:17

@Runnerinthenight it's a public post. Let's agree to disagree and leave it as that 😊

I absolutely on your side. It's cruel to inflict pain on babies just for their appearance- once he hears how much she cries having injections he might think twice.
If you think there is a risk of him taking her to have her ears pierced without your consent, don't put him on the birth certificate. Or you can go to court for a specifics issues order if needed. That's what I would do if my baby's father wanted to hurt her.

If he thinks it's really important that everyone knows she's a girl, you can dress her in a big tacky bow. That wouldn't hurt her.

Yes! Exactly. Piercings don't need to be added to look 'cute' ! X

Ultimately you’re this baby’s parent and if you don’t want it done don’t have it done. My DD was thinking about having hers done when she was 7, we said wait until you’re 8. She’d changed her mind then ending up having them done at 9. I asked her would you have minded if they were done when you were a baby and she said yes she would. I don’t get why you need to ask strangers when you clearly don’t want to do it.

Nah. I have to disagree here. There have been posters mocking the OP and then questioning her story from the get go. They're bound to stick up for themselves. It's a bit odd searching AS to try and trip someone up. If you don't think a poster is genuine, report it and move on.

Did you discuss them before you decided to have a child? Quite important to see if your views are compatible before making babies, imo.
