@MF94 awh that’s good!
will you do NCT or another version?

I’d been looking at NCT as i hadnt heard of the other company and i knew of NCT from my mum doing it years ago! But i will see if i have the other company locally and if it looks good and would consider that otherwise! You?

CluelessInLondon · 19/04/2024 21:32

@LuxeBiscuit My understanding of the whole lying on the back thing is that from 16 weeks it's only for long periods of time and the main risk is that you start to get dizzy/light-headed. From 28 weeks it's about sleeping position so you need to sleep on your side in the third trimester as sleeping on your back is linked to stillbirth.

@30somethingttc We have booked on Bump & Baby Club - it's quite a bit cheaper than NCT and the location is more convenient for us, plus I like that they include the hypnobirthing course (my husband snorted a bit about that because it sounds a bit woowoo 😂 but I'm keen to learn some strategies for managing pain especially early in labour).

30somethingttc · 19/04/2024 21:32

@MF94 I’m definitely swaying toward NCT because of the location but none of the dates for any of the companies are ideal for us which is a shame but suppose that doesn’t really matter as everyone will be different early / late / on time!

LuxeBiscuit · 19/04/2024 22:12

@CluelessInLondon oh okay, I missed that distinction. Thanks.

I got just over a week to enjoy lying on the sofa then.

WickWood · 19/04/2024 22:56

@peardeer That's great news, I am so happy for you! 🩵🩷

Bee49 · 20/04/2024 06:11

@CluelessInLondon I also was a bit skeptical of hypnobirthing and thought it might be a bit woo woo but it’s not at all! My partner and I did an online course last time (watch videos at your own pace) and he found it really informative. They have a specific section about what partners can do as well.

Btowngirl · 20/04/2024 07:04

@CluelessInLondon i have to admit I was the partner who thought it was a bit of a joke when my wife got the hyponobirthing course with our first. We did them together and to see how amazingly it worked and the magical birth my wife had absolutely convinced me. I’ll be doing it now I am carrying for sure!

@30somethingttc we did NCT with our first. The classes are quite long and it’s hard for sitting in the later stages of pregnancy, especially the late after work classes but it was really beneficial for the network. Obviously mainly for my wife but particularly as I had to go away for work when our baby was just under 6 weeks. It’s expensive but I would say worth it! I’m a nurse and still learnt loads about advocating for my wife during labour in terms of what is and isn’t available!

HotCrossBunnyInTheOven · 20/04/2024 09:47

@Missingpotatocroquettes I am so sorry you had such worrying news with no real explanation or clarity. I hope you get some answers asap and everything is ok.

@peardeer what a lovely scan picture ☺️ I'd guess that's a little girl!

Just got my 20wk scan appointment through the post. I'll be 20 weeks 5 days so hopefully they'll be able to see the sex clearly. We are going to get them to put it in an envelope for us as my 2 daughters, 16 & 14, are organising a baby shower/gender reveal party. They are very excited to find out before any of us! The boys aren't really very bothered either way 🤣

With regards to antenatal classes, it may be worth asking your midwives if they hold any local NHS ones. I know they used to. I did them with my first and made some wonderful friends and they cover all the same things as the NCT classes, but they're free!

Has anyone else got insomnia recently? I had it terribly from week 4-7 then it went away. I'm 13 weeks tomorrow and I have barely slept at night for the last 3 nights. Getting to sleep isn't an issue at all, it's the staying asleep that's the problem. I'm extremely tired and grumpy this morning.

DP has gone to make me bacon sandwiches and coffee to cheer me up 😁

WickWood · 20/04/2024 10:41

@HotCrossBunnyInTheOven I'm the same, falling asleep okay, but then waking up in the night struggling to fall back asleep!

Aww it's lovely that your daughters are doing you a baby shower/gender reveal, how sweet, they must be super excited!

My OH has just gone to get some bacon too for bacon butties, I haven't fancied them since I've been pregnant, so I'm now so excited! X

HotCrossBunnyInTheOven · 20/04/2024 12:53

@WickWood I hope you enjoyed your sandwiches!

I've only just started being able to eat anything other than plain chicken and rice. I've had serious food aversions for weeks and even my favourite food, cheese, made me sick. Sad times. I'm working up to being able to eat it again. I really can't wait, it's the simple things! 😂

rachisamumtobe · 20/04/2024 14:12

@HotCrossBunnyInTheOven I haven't had the best night sleeps the past week, I wake up in the middle of the night for the toilet and then it takes me forever to go back to sleep (2 hours on average) and I've felt nauseous too. Feeling pretty tired today but managed to go out with a friend which was nice xx

CharlieBalf · 20/04/2024 18:42

I've just had a wad of appointments through for 8 extra scans and consultnat appointments over the next 5 months 😅 one of them is even booked for my due date! anyone else had US fetal doplar study appointments? They said they're mandatory and if I miss them I'll be rendered back to my GP for further care!

They're all legit from our trust hospital, cheap copy paper and everything, I'm just a bit confused as They're literally every three weeks.

LuxeBiscuit · 20/04/2024 19:03

@CharlieBalf did your midwife mention anything about potentially being higher risk? I'm due to have additional consultant appointments but I only have one booked in so far.

WickWood · 20/04/2024 19:59

@CharlieBalf Are the scans from 31 weeks? My midwife said that because its my first baby after 31 weeks (I think) I'll have a scan every 2 weeks, not sure if it's something similar? I don't get the GP threat though! Maybe call your midwife on Monday and ask for more information x

HotCrossBunnyInTheOven · 20/04/2024 20:25

@rachisamumtobe yes the peeing at night is also back with a vengeance. As are the headaches every day for the last week. Hopefully all of this will wear off soon and we will have new symptoms to moan about 😂

@CharlieBalf that's odd that they've told you the scans are compulsory. They can't do that surely?!
I know I will be having extra scans every 2-3 weeks from 28 weeks because of my age. They're called gap and grow scans apparently but I haven't had any appointments through yet. Id definitely ring the midwife to query yours though!

mrssunshinexxx · 20/04/2024 20:35

No never heard of this @CharlieBalf I've been consultant led both times and had 1 growth scan that's it x

spudnik1 · 21/04/2024 07:51

@CharlieBalf

I am high risk. I have a consultant appointment at 22 weeks . Then scans every 3 weeks from 29 weeks until the due date. All already booked in. Oh, and a gestational diabetes check at 30 weeks.

Growth scans are due to age ( I will be 40 soon)
My last child was 10 lb, and I have a small frame.

The consultant is due to the existing high BP.

CharlieBalf · 21/04/2024 20:56

Thanks for your replies- weirdly the scans start from a.couple weeks away when I'll.be 18 weeks. This is #3 and I've been consultant led due to previous complications, ivf, miscarriages and age (baby #1 I was 36) but never had this many scans and booked all at once.in one go or been considered high risk.

I will be 40 by EDDso perhaps its due to that?
I'm not complaining at all, it means baby is being checked frequently and I get.to see them but it feels a bit intimidating especially as.ill have midwife.apps on top of that.

Anyone who's been high risk before amd had an ECS, do they tend to suggest 39 weeks or before?

October73 · 22/04/2024 08:12

Hi @CharlieBalf ,
From my experience, they aim for 39 weeks but they’ll wait until closer to the time (usually around 34 weeks) to make a decision dependant on your scans to date and findings :).

CluelessInLondon · 22/04/2024 09:10

@Bee49 @Btowngirl Thanks for sharing your experiences of hypnobirthing, that's really helpful and good to know that it's been useful in the past - I'm definitely keen to try anything that might help and it's really good that it's something partners can get involved in too. I think my husband sometimes thinks everything for the next 5 months or so is all down to me!

How is everyone feeling going into another week? The anxiety has definitely kicked up a notch for me - not really sure why but I woke up this morning just feeling really worried. I'm a bit of a control freak so I don't really like the fact that there isn't much that I can do to reassure myself that everything is okay with baby. My 20 week scan is 2 weeks on Saturday and it feels like ages away!

JemRose · 22/04/2024 09:26

hey all, hope everyone is doing well! I haven't posted since thread 2 when we were all still worry about first trimester stuff and hanging on in there for the 12 week scan! So lovely catching up on this thread and see everyone doing well with healthy scan pics :) I'm doing good, my bump is enormous at only 17 weeks (baby no.2) and I started feeling a little bit of fluttery movement this week! So exciting :) into the 2nd trimester is sooooo good, feeling energy returning and hair getting bouncier :) xxx

rachisamumtobe · 22/04/2024 14:32

@CluelessInLondon sorry to hear you're feeling anxious that's definitely part of pregnancy I reckon! I have felt anxious too but after my 12 week scan and test results came back low risk I am feeling so much more positive and excited, I even went looking at prams yesterday I couldn't help myself. I'm 14 weeks today and I'm feeling very tired but not as sick

CluelessInLondon · 22/04/2024 15:28

@JemRose Lovely to hear that you are doing well! I'm still waiting for my second trimester glow-up, my skin still looks rubbish although not quite as bad as it was a few weeks ago!

@rachisamumtobe I felt a lot more relaxed after my dating scan, but I think as that becomes longer ago the anxiety just gradually builds up again and I start to worry that maybe something has gone wrong and I just don't know about it. And I keep thinking about how awful it was to experience a loss last year and how much worse it would be if it happened again at this later stage - I know the chances are very small but it's hard not to worry. I'm trying to think positive and spent some time with my husband over the weekend working out what we need to do before the due date - when to go shopping for baby stuff, that kind of thing - but then I start worrying I'm pre-empting things too much. Hoping that I will get through the 20 week scan okay and that will help me to relax a bit.

I've just been prescribed antibiotics for the acne on my back is it so so sore and worse than ever ! @CluelessInLondon it's really getting me down want it to clear up so I can wear some nice summery bits.
It's my 12 week scan tomorrow I'll be 13+2 and hoping to have a peak at the sex if sonographer is friendly one!
