@CluelessInLondon my baby is measuring quite big at the moment but apparently fibriods can restrict growth. First one at 32 weeks... I guess they'll tell me tomorrow!

WeightoftheWorld · 08/08/2024 16:28

@Sara1988 yes, I think @CCluelessInLondon is correct that the interval between the growth scans depends on the reasons for the scans, plus the findings of the scans. I will be having them from 32 weeks, I can't remember the exact frequency, I think it is three weekly iirc. However obviously if anything unexpected is identified then it could end up being more frequently. They can't do them more often than fortnightly though for them to be reliable.

I'm on the app so can't see the thread and can't remember the username of the PP who just said they had their section date through, but how exciting! What gestation will you be having it at?

I had a consultant appt today, I was on the phone for about 3 minutes and I'm not even exaggerating! As expected it was just to basically book a date in for induction between week 39 and 40 but I declined pending growth scan results, so she said she'd book me in for another review at 36 weeks to discuss again. Which is fair enough.

Having said that, my baby is clearly transverse or oblique at the moment...so really hoping they turn at some point! DC1 was transverse until I was about 34 weeks when she finally turned so hoping this one will too!

CluelessInLondon · 08/08/2024 16:51

@WeightoftheWorld Mine was transverse at my last midwife appointment, and head down at the one before that - the midwife said they still have plenty of room to move around so she didn't seem concerned. I'm getting movement in different places on different days so baby is clearly still squirming around at different angles in there!

spudnik1 · 08/08/2024 17:27

@WeightoftheWorld my section date has been booked at 39+1. Although that depends on if my bp behaves . But I am aiming for that.
My hospital only does planned sections on Tuesdays and Thursdays and I am the first on the list for that day.

I have growth scans had one today at 32+1 my next will be 35+1 so every 3 weeks.

Baby was head down today, although curled to the side. Up until this point he had been transverse. The midwife after the scan wasn't fussed about baby position , she said it doesn't really matter until week 36.

30somethingttc · 08/08/2024 20:42

@Sara1988
ive been having growth scans since 20 weeks and every interval is different for mine based on how that scan goes.
so for example on my last scan mine hit their intended target at my 27 week scan so my next one is booked in for 30 weeks, but if that changed and they stopped hitting their target they’d make them more frequent!

@spudnik1 amszing you’ve had your date. I’m really eager to get mine as it feels like this looming cloud!!

went into today for reduce movements and twin 2 had totally moved positions and was facing inwards. So hard to know when to worry or not!! Felt silly for going in but everyone was so lovely.

Mitsky · 08/08/2024 22:30

@Sara1988 professional fibroid owner here! I had a growth one today at just over 28 and will have another at 32 and then the regular 36 one.

MF94 · 09/08/2024 11:44

I had a growth scan at 28w and now have them 4 weekly, although i have no appointments booked after 36w! I thought at 28w my consultant would start talking to me about my birth plan but they've asked me to go on a labour & induction webinar course to inform myself and then at my 32w appt they will put a plan in place. Due to medical condition i will be induced typically between 37-39 weeks, although the consultant said at my 28w that they are aiming for 38-39 weeks atm because everything is looking good (touch wood!)

CluelessInLondon · 09/08/2024 12:01

@30somethingttc Ah, sorry you've had the stress of reduced movements - it's horrible isn't it? I can't imagine how much worse it is when you're trying to monitor two babies, I find it worrying enough with one! Glad they were okay, and you should never feel silly for going and getting checked out.

Has anybody else had contact with their health visitor yet? I got a call from my local HV team earlier this week and have a virtual appointment with them later today, think it's just so they can introduce themselves and let me know what their involvement will be once the baby is born. I'm also going to tour the maternity unit at the hospital later, so it's a busy afternoon for me!

I have the Health Visitor is coming out to my house next week.

I had no idea that we should have growth scans with fibroids, I didn’t even mention I had them to the midwife at the booking appointment - oops! Don’t know if I should bother now? I’m 30 weeks.

Mitsky · 09/08/2024 14:28

@JLT24 I would imagine it depends how large yours are and where they are on the womb. They’d have seen them during your scans so if they haven’t been concerned I wouldn’t worry but it’s probably worth mentioning to your midwife. One of mine is significantly large and due to the position may stop the uterus contracting to birth the placenta so I’ll need an injection.

The dr has also told me already that I’ll be obstetrics led for the birth which has surprised me, I need to look into it more.

Sara1988 · 09/08/2024 15:07

@Mitsky yes looks like I'm the same 28, 32, 36. Didn't realise fibriods could affect birthing the placenta. This one thing I've not decided on yet, so worth knowing! Thanks!

Is anyone else having a home birth?

30somethingttc · 09/08/2024 16:45

@CluelessInLondon yes they’re keeping me on my toes that’s for sure 😂😂

I haven’t heard anything about the health visitor. Is that organised through the hospital or GP?
Im not in my hospitals area, as we picked one based on twins / nicus (it’s still only 25 mins away) so im wondering where my health visitors would come from 🤔

Health visiting is usually separate from the hospital and GP, the way it works here is the midwife registers you with the Health Visiting service and they then book in to see you.

30somethingttc · 09/08/2024 17:14

@JLT24 thank you. I’ve got a consultant appointment on Tuesday! so will ask then!
thank you!

rachisamumtobe · 09/08/2024 17:27

I have my second consultant appointment at the hospital next week and a growth scan as they can't measure with a tape due to my high bmi, I'm hoping alls good and looking forward to seeing him again

CluelessInLondon · 09/08/2024 18:25

@30somethingttc I was referred through the midwives, although none of the many midwives I've seen have bothered to mention it! Just got a call out of the blue the other day about it - had a virtual meeting with them this afternoon, it was quite useful as a first-timer just to hear how they get involved and what they're there for.

I've just been for a tour of the maternity unit at the hospital - definitely recommend to everyone seeing if your hospital offers tours if you're on baby number one, it was really helpful just to see where everything is so it's not totally new and confusing when I get there to actually give birth. It also made me certain I want to do everything possible to avoid having an epidural - the birth centre at my hospital is really nice but the labour ward is really depressing, so I want to avoid medical interventions wherever possible. I'm doing my birth plan at my midwife appointment next week so definitely putting that on there!

Hello everybody! I’m 32 weeks tomorrow, due 6th October. I had a growth scan and my baby is small for his gestational age and is on the 7th centile, has anybody had any experience of this, he’s also a footling breach!

Sara1988 · 10/08/2024 13:49

@PineappleBella same due date! But my baby is big and not breech. It might be worth making a new thread because I'm sure there will be people who have gone through the same. Midwife told me to take scans with a pinch of salt as they are very inaccurate. Have they offered regular growth scans?

Hello, we had this with our first. She was born 11 days early (spontaneously) and only weighed 5lb 9oz, she’s always been small but there were no health issues as a result so fingers crossed same for you 😌

RobynC28 · 10/08/2024 15:38

@PineappleBella i had a scan at 29 weeks and mines 7th percentile too. They weren't worried and said she still has time to grow. I flagged to my midwife seperatly and she wasn't worried either. They said if the parents were small and it's consistently growing they aren't concerned unless under the 5th percentile.

30somethingttc · 10/08/2024 15:57

@PineappleBella
im having twins and mine are both SGA. we are having regular growth scans and like said above if they are growing consistently that’s what matters ☺️

My first was tiny, estimated 5th centile but was actually 2nd when born. She's caught up now and perfectly healthy. Try not to worry, growth scans aren't always accurate (they can be born bigger too). I'm sure they'll keep an eye on growth

CluelessInLondon · 11/08/2024 18:41

Has anyone done/started antenatal classes yet? We had our first session of Bump & Baby Club today and it was really good - it was half a day so it was a long session but it flew by. There was loads of information but it didn't feel like overload. Really helped that we had toured the maternity unit a couple of days ago so we could understand what the instructor was talking about when she referred to labour ward, birth centre etc. I'm actually looking forward to the next one!

spudnik1 · 12/08/2024 04:56

Ahhhhhh, pregnancy insomnia !

Antenatal classes. This is my second ( although a 9 year gap). Last time, we went to the local free midwife lead ones. They mostly concentrated on cot death ( our area has a very high cot death stats) since last time I went they have shut loads of sure start centres and they are now all in the roughest parts of town. I did fancy a refresher on infant feeding, but it is a trek to get to the centres now. We don't have nct anywhere near us 😔 so I think we will be winging it.

WeightoftheWorld · 12/08/2024 09:47

@spudnik1 does your hospital not do an infant feeding class or anything like that? Ours used to but I think they never restarted after COVID, but they basically have it online as a pre-recorded video anyway. There's loads of good info on the Kellymom website too about breastfeeding.
