@AnxiousD Could you discuss the anxiety with your midwife at your next appointment? If it's something you're very worried about, would another c-section be an option for you? Definitely sounds like something that's worth discussing early so you that you can work through the worries and start to feel a bit more in control. Being honest, the idea of giving birth totally freaks me out but at the moment I'm not really thinking about it too much as it feels so far away!

I've just been for a blood test to check baby's blood type in case I need anti-D - was quite handy as I was able to get a bit of reassurance around the low-lying placenta from the midwife, she didn't seem at all concerned and basically told me to just carry on as normal. I had been going down a bit of a Google rabbit-hole and finding all sorts of horror stories about it!

How is everyone else doing this week?

Anyone else starting to get scared of childbirth? My 1st was an elected C-section for medical reasons. I'm stratung to get anxious about not being able to dekiver without an issue to baby or me. Feel so out of control.

Yes! With my first I was so confident about labour - I was actually looking forward to it!! Then I ended up having a very long and painful labour and vowed to have an elective c-section since then. Now I’m torn, because I know that it’s much more likely that birth will be easier second time wrong and that there are plenty of downsides to a c section. I’m so confused

AnxiousD · 16/05/2024 16:09

Thanks for your comments @mylittleitalianhome and @CluelessInLondon
I am booked in for a VBAC meeting in a few weeks, I'm sure that will be an opportunity to say how concerned I am. They're probably used to it! I just feel like everywhere I look there's dangers for both options. I didn't have much time to think before, the elective CS decision was made with 2 weeks notice before having my DS. Now, I have a chance to think about it, I'm getting concerned. Maybe the decision will be made for me and I will just have to go with it. Being an 'older' mum who's high risk may be something they consider too.
I'm not feeling movement and I'm 18.5wks. Thought I'd feel it by now as its my 2nd but I get told not to worry as every baby is different. Got a gender scan at the weekend and 20wk booked for 2wks time.

ToffeeEl · 16/05/2024 16:13

Hi all, new to the group (hope it's ok to hop on?) after finding out late that I'm pregnant!

Due 31/10 so 16w exactly today, did a test 2 weeks ago had my booking yesterday and scan today. My first child is 15 months and this is second to come

Hope everyone is well and coping ☺️

Mitsky · 16/05/2024 17:40

This is day 6 of me not being able to sit / stand / lie / sleep due to my dying upset fibroid. Honestly losing my mind, codeine isn’t making any difference to the pain.

I tried to go for a walk yesterday to get out the house and managed 500 metres before having to turn around and even during that distance sat down 3 times.

I just want to feel normal again!

CluelessInLondon · 16/05/2024 17:50

Oh no @Mitsky , sorry to hear you are still feeling so bad. I think you said you were due to have a midwife appointment earlier this week, did they have any advice for you?

OP posts:
Mitsky · 16/05/2024 18:08

Thank you, I actually ended up seeing a dr and consultant for confirmation. It’s just one of those things that I’m very unlucky to get as most fibroid owners don’t have issues. The drugs are all they can offer unless I want to be admitted onto a morphine drip which I’d rather avoid so it’s just a lot of rest and hoping this last for the estimated few days rather than a potential few weeks at the worst case!

rachisamumtobe · 16/05/2024 19:18

@ToffeeEl welcome!!! That must have been a huge surprise! I'm due 21st October, nearly 18 weeks xx how you holding up? X

mrssunshinexxx · 16/05/2024 19:27

Feel free to ignore me @AnxiousD but I have read ALOT about vbac I am planning my vba2c for this birth I had a tit of a consultant last week who tried to coerce me and scaremonger unlucky for him I know my stuff and told him straight. If you are really keen for a vbac be firm and confident and if consultant isn't helpful ask to speak to HOM , mine is great and fully backing me

AnxiousD · 16/05/2024 19:33

@mrssunshinexxx thanks.i am told I have to go for a VBAC meeting to tick the box to say they have gone through the risks of CS.
Was your consultant telling you to have a CS or not?

JackSwain · 16/05/2024 19:58

here for the long haul

bobbyrt · 16/05/2024 20:04

@mylittleitalianhome

This is me too! Long back to back labour with my first and swore never again, and now feel confused. I also made the mistake of reading the maternity report this week which scared me more!

mrssunshinexxx · 16/05/2024 20:12

@AnxiousD I would strongly advise you to join vbac uk support group on Facebook it's been a game changer for me. It will change your mindset and really get you realising everything is your choice they can't allow or not allow you to do anything etc by the way I am in no ways saying ignore medical advise or do anything dangerous.
The consultant strongly advised a repeat section but when I asked what is the medical reason I should have major abdominal surgery over a vaginal delivery given I am a young healthy woman with healthy bmi and have laboured / dilated twice before . To which he couldn't answer he just said it's just what we do. I am getting my vbac this time I feel more determined than last time x

AnxiousD · 16/05/2024 21:03

OK thanks @mrssunshinexxx I don't use FB but I'm sure there's similar things out there for info. I don't know any different to elected C-section. I think they are always more keen for vaginal birth where I am from. Suppose there's a few weeks yet and fare will decide. Just so nervous of the thought of such major changes either way.

Back to back labour for me too and a week of pre-labour contractions! What’s confusing for me is that at the time I vowed never again, but since becoming pregnant the memory of the pain has dimmed slightly and I’m worried it’s my brain tricking me into going through it again!!!

I don’t want to scare anyone else though or sound negative- plenty of my friends had incredible, empowering experiences.

mrssunshinexxx · 16/05/2024 22:12

Totally agree @AnxiousD neither way is fun ! I do feel nervous about it all

TubbyCustard11 · 20/05/2024 10:51

Hello everybody! 20 weeks today. Feeling the heartburn, some PGP and lower back pain- mainly in the mornings when I wake up.
With my first I had an emergency c-section after labouring for 4 days, dilating to only 5cm (I was given 2 epidurals and a hormone drip by the end of it)
To then being told DD is back to back and an emergency c-section is needed. I was so exhausted by that point and just needed her out.
This time around I am going for a planned c-section. I think I'll have a breakdown if I went through the same as I did with my first.

LuxeBiscuit · 21/05/2024 20:30

It's been quiet on here lately! How's everyone coping?

Most of us should be at, or nearing the halfway point now.

I'm so exhausted. The second trimester burst of energy only lasted about 3 weeks and I've yet to develop a glow lol

RobynC28 · 22/05/2024 06:01

I'm half way too! Had my 20 week scan yesterday - if you haven't had one before it's amazing as you get to see everything, heart, brain, little feet. She's measuring normal which is great.
I'm finding the stuff in the news about birth tramour quite difficult, I've not read anything but i keep catching the headlines which are terrifying. Really don't want to think about it right now!

CluelessInLondon · 22/05/2024 09:43

I wonder if everyone is a bit in that in-between phase when there's not much going on - I definitely found the period between the 12 and 20 week scans a bit weird as there's so little contact with anyone and not much actually happening.

@LuxeBiscuit I am definitely not glowing! Definitely more energy than the first trimester and feeling pretty good overall, but my skin is still rubbish, I have to spend ages in the mornings covering up spots!

@RobynC28 Glad to hear your scan went well. I know what you mean about all of the news stories at the moment - it's such bad timing for anybody who knows they'll be giving birth in the next few months. I keep reminding myself that the bad stories are shocking because they don't happen all the time, and that almost nobody I know has had a traumatic experience giving birth (and the couple of people who did have bad experiences were just unlucky and got good treatment when things went wrong). That's definitely helping me to rationalise things.

I'm getting really impatient to start feeling more movement - still only getting little flutters every now and again (probably only every 2-3 days) and was really hoping for more by now. I do have an anterior placenta which is probably hiding things a bit, and I keep having to remember that baby was moving loads at the anomaly scan and I couldn't feel any of it so not feeling much isn't automatically a bad sign. Not always easy to remind myself of that though, especially when people keep asking me if baby is kicking a lot!

mrssunshinexxx · 22/05/2024 09:47

@CluelessInLondon yes can feel like that can't it especially as no midwife app for me til 28 weeks so 10 weeks away
I am being kept very busy with managing a double side extension though 😬

rachisamumtobe · 22/05/2024 10:00

Hey everyone, I am 18 weeks 2 days and waiting for my 20 week scan at the start of June!

I am getting bubble sensations now and again (especially when lying on my right side) and feeling better in myself now.

Feels like ages till I see my midwife again and have the GTT test in July.

I think we will try to find out the gender at the scan. Just can't wait to see them again 💜

RobynC28 · 22/05/2024 10:15

@CluelessInLondon . That's a good way to think about the birth.

I'm exactly the same with the movements and i found out I also have an anterior placenta at the scan . I think i might be feeling her a little bit now but it's really hard to tell, it's not obvious for me at all.

My midwife said to contact her if I've not felt anything by 24 weeks. The sonographer said the baby was moving loads, even more than average so she's not worried and thought the placenta explained it.

I honestly just want to tell people to shut up when they ask about movements (which is really unfair as I know they mean well!) but it's so frustrating isn't it?!

WeightoftheWorld · 22/05/2024 10:19

Ive just been anxiously waiting for an appointment letter for my anatomy scan which has finally arrived today! It is next Saturday, so they must be really struggling to keep up with the scans on time to have out of hours ones. I'm hoping my DB or someone can babysit for us as very anxious but if I have to go alone then it is what it is I suppose.

CluelessInLondon · 22/05/2024 11:38

@RobynC28 Same for me, movements are definitely not obvious - I've had the odd one where I've thought "yeah, that must definitely be baby" but then others I can't tell whether it's baby flutters or if I'm just hungry! 😂 If things aren't noticeably different by 24 weeks I think I'm going to call triage to be on the safe side, but I'm definitely getting fatter so if baby is getting bigger I'm assuming the movements will start to get more obvious...

@WeightoftheWorld Your trust might just do scans on Saturdays - mine does, I had both my 12 and 20 week scans on a Saturday. It was actually quite nice, the hospital is much quieter and it's easier to get parking than on a weekday. I had the same sonographer for both of mine too, which I liked - I have to have another scan at 34 weeks and I think I'll be disappointed if it's not the same guy again, I feel like he's on the journey with me now!
