Hey guys, new thread for the April due dates.

Looks like the other thread maxed out before someone could make a new one, so I'll tag a few people and then if they could tag a few and they tag a few and so on, so we can try and get everyone in.

There's no way I can get everyone tagged myself, it's a nightmare on mobile.

Has anyone had a baby with tongue tie? Ours was assessed and he had a posterior one which they divided there but could only do it 95% as they were worried they'd do more damage if they cut it 100%. He has been latching better now, but it's still not the best and I still don't think he's getting enough milk from the breast so I keep topping up. If anyone's had a tongue tie division, how long did it take for the baby to latch properly and be exclusively breastfeed?

Did you get follow up exercises to do? We got my son’s tt cut on day 3 and the latch is getting steadily better. We got lots of exercises to do though which are to teach him to use his tongue. We’ve also been having cranial osteopathy to help him with muscle tightness and to relax and realign his jaw.

I’m being induced tomorrow.. 40+4 today but growth scan showed low amniotic fluid around baby so have to have induction. I really wanted to avoid this and wanted to go into labour naturally and go the birth centre and have a water birth but that’s out of the window now 🥺 still trying to get my head round it, I know it’s best for baby to come now to make sure he’s safe. I’m petrified!! Does anyone have any positive experiences of induction? 🙁 x

Ttcmumma · 24/04/2024 21:35

@Ktx6 does your hospital not offer outpatient induction? I was booked for an outpatient induction so I could still use the birthing centre. Didn't need it in the end as I went into labour but thought it was a great option. They start induction in labour ward, monitor you and baby for a couple hours and if all looks ok you go home until you progress and come to birth centre when you do.

No I asked that 😔 they said some hospitals do offer outpatient induction but this one doesn’t. Gutted! x

I've unfortunately been in hospital since Monday. Had a repeat growth scan booked for Monday 22nd (I was 40+2) due to fundal height measurement on 38 week appt dropping off slightly. At the scan my BP was high and didn't come down. They discussed medication and induction and said for me to come back at 5pm that evening however even after the labetalol my BP didn't come down so they admitted me straight away to antenatal. BP was fine the rest of the day so didn't require any more doses. I was examined and they said I was ,1-1.5cm and I was given a sweep and pessary. Dilated enough by midnight on Monday to have waters broken however no beds on labour ward and I have been waiting since. I had to have another dose of Labetalol on Tuesday but haven't needed any today. Unfortunately I still have the same number of people infront of me as when I came in due to emergencies etc. Getting a little bit fed up and worried now especially as they struggled to get a good CTG before. Hopefully will get a bed soon or perhaps waters might just go on their own - I will be 40+5 tomorrow.

Hope everyone else is getting on okay.

@XenaTheWarriorPrincess I am so sorry. I hope you and your family are receiving lots of support.

I am having a similar experience to others with respect to breastfeeding. After naively trying to put him in bedside crib on first night at home and finding it impossible to feed him in bed following my emergency section I have since stayed downstairs with him. He starts feeding from about 9.30pm and I stay up with him til about 5am by which point my partner is usually able to settle him. He has a tongue tie and will only feed with a nipple shield. In the last couple of days his nappies smell really bad so I think there's a chance he may also have some kind of intolerance. He also screams blue murder every time I change his nappy which is super fun in the early hours of the morning!!

We were in hospital for the first 6 days and since we've been home it's felt like we have been inundated with health appointments and visitors. I am trying to have boundaries with the visits but it's easier said than done.

I will try the white noise trick from tomorrow, thanks for the suggestion.

sugarplum33 · 25/04/2024 04:45

@ZB86 That sounds really hard, it's a very long time for you to be awake. Have you tried expressing any breast milk? I've just started pumping and it means I can manage even just a couple of hours at the start of the night whilst my husband feeds him. It's still bloody hard though, I don't think I've managed a longer stint than 2.5 hours since I had him.

@Alice4875 You poor thing, that sounds incredibly frustrating. Hope you get to the front of the queue very soon.

SummerOak · 25/04/2024 15:13

@Applesandpears23 yes we got some exercises but he's not really reacting to them much. He just gets fussy when we try to do them. Were you referred for cranial osteopathy or did you decide to do that on your own? Do you think it's helping?

For those of you using nipple shields, do they still need to latch deeply for them to work? I'm finding it that sometimes it hurts even more with them.

The midwife recommended it to help him open his jaw.

Baby arrived on Saturday. Contractions started 4am and gave birth at 8:57pm in the pool. 9 days overdue but finally here!

ZB86 · 25/04/2024 20:46

@sugarplum33 thank you. The midwives on the last ward I was on suggested I just feed from the breast to avoid oversupply and problems from that. I had expressed in the earlier days when he needed to transition from fluids only to milk.

@SummerOak it is sometimes still painful for me when I use shields but he just won't feed without them, mainly due to his tongue tie I think. It's a couple of weeks til his appointment for the tie to be snipped in just hoping I can manage to carry on til then to at least see if things improve following the procedure.

Pinkstuffs · 25/04/2024 23:58

@ZB86 I’m finding the constant appointments hard too. Since we came home on Tuesday we’ve had the midwife coming out twice and back tomorrow, then he has two hospital appointments Monday and Tuesday - one for hearing one for his tongue tie - just seems impossible to relax! The midwives never specify a timeframe either so I find I spend all day on edge waiting for them.

Yes this can be really hard. Are you home alone? If you’re not I suggest just ignoring they are coming. Do whatever you want to do. Then when they arrive your partner can offer them tea and make small talk for a minute whilst you get ready for them. I have been asleep when they get here, wake up, quick trip to loo, sit up in bed and invite them up.

I had my baby yesterday at 4pm, we didn't know the sex and it turned out to be a girl which is what my gut feeling was 💓 totally in love. I was induced because of reduced movements by having my waters broken (i was already 2cm so didnt need pessary or anything), I was 39+2. Was pretty anxious about being induced and having the hormone drip as everyone tells you the horror stories about needing more interventions, it being more painful, a longer labour or ending up in emergency c section etc. and I really didn't want an epidural, but overall my experience was amazing and didn't need any of that, I was in labour for 14 hours from start to finish and had gas and air and Pethidine. Just wanted to let anyone know who is still waiting to have their baby that if you need to be induced there are positive stories!

In our little bubble and it feels amazing, hope everyone else is doing well 💓💓

SummerOak · 26/04/2024 23:16

Congratulations @cheddarsandtoast and @94kj. Enjoy you baby bubbles!

Many congratulations! @cheddarsandtoast @94kj !

A bit tmi but does anyone still have pain when doing a poo? My daughter is 19 days old today and when I poo it hurts inside my belly. Not sure if that's normal 😅

Do you have piles?

Ttcmumma · 29/04/2024 18:36

@Applesandpears23 yes but it hurts more internally, like more in my belly before it gets to the exit. I thought maybe it was bruising inside or something from birth but still there almost 3 weeks later!

Sorry I don’t have that - just the piles.

jeepjeep4 · 30/04/2024 07:57

@Ttcmumma it could be bruising as I was the same for weeing for ages. The catheter from my section bruised me and wee was like hot lava!! Midwife said that urethra and bowels get all kinds of scrapes along the way and take a while to resettle

Ttcmumma · 30/04/2024 08:59

@jeepjeep4 ah thank you! I mean I guess I shouldn't be surprised that a whole baby pushing past my organs is going to internally bruise me! Hopefully will settle down in another week or so

Pinkstuffs · 30/04/2024 10:37

@Ttcmumma I am having all sorts of pains down there since my section, it feels quite bruised when I pee as well. I was constipated for a while but now seem to have gone the other way! I had presumed it was just the results of everything being rearranged down there.

Aprilpudding24 · 04/05/2024 19:50

Anyone else's little cherub very much affected by 'the witching hour' and if so any tips to soothe them. I'm finding between 6pm-11pm she's impossible to console? X

Mrsttcno1 · 05/05/2024 11:37

Yes @Aprilpudding24 ! And the only thing that settles her is being literally skin to skin on my chest, I have tried everything and absolutely nothing else works so I’ve just accepted that for now 11pm is my new bed time😂 there’s absolutely nothing wrong with her she’s fed, changed, white noise doesn’t help, nothing at all soothes her during that time apart from being flat on my chest! So sorry not much help but solidarity! X
