No period either, 10 weeks pp

CheeseAndCrackersx · 14/04/2024 18:31

Just the apple 1 @redxlondon. I always track it.

Ah ok.

Just not like me to be on again after 18 days, I was normally 28-30 days apart

DmcinT · 14/04/2024 19:22

@CheeseAndCrackersx no period here 9 weeks out but am I right it won’t return while we’re breast feeding?

Ohhh gotcha. Sorry it’s the way you said “according to” like the app told you you had one but weren’t sure…haha

LavenderSweetPea · 14/04/2024 19:49

@DmcinT your period can take longer to come back when your breastfeeding. I'm currently 11w pp and no period. But don't just assy your cycle won't won't happen - it's more common than you think to get pregnant while bf!

Ihatewinding · 15/04/2024 03:25

@CheeseAndCrackersx I had a period after 7 weeks lasting 6 days then just had 3 days of more like spotting at 9 weeks. I'm breastfeeding so gutted, didn't get it until 10 weeks with my first and she was bottle fed by 2 weeks, so was expecting 3-4 months minimum this time! And it's not like I'm not doing night feeds either. Though so far much lighter than previously, I never stopped using maternity pads after my first as so much heavier... small blessings I guess Hmm

Think EBF is meant to be as effective as the pill for the first six months (but still use contraception just in case). Mine came back suddenly at a 5/6 months with my first, and I breastfed til he was 1. However my cycles were crazy while feeding and the high prolactin levels while feeding can impact implantation and cause miscarriages.

I stopped feeding and got pregnant within a couple of months

DmcinT · 15/04/2024 11:47

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 @LavenderSweetPea yeah I’ve a friend that got caught out thinking she was covered EBF. Her newborn was 7 weeks when she found out she was pregnant again. There’s just 8 months between her 2 now

LavenderSweetPea · 15/04/2024 12:30

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 @DmcinT I also have a friend who fell while BF, thinking it was very unlikely. Less than a year between her two. I bet the midwives see loads of 'oops but I was breastfeeding' mums 😂

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 15/04/2024 12:51

Pregnant at 7 weeks pp 😱 I'll be taking precautions. Gosh! Will feel so cheated if my period comes back anytime soon

Ihatewinding · 15/04/2024 15:13

Breastfeeding as contraception only works if you're not having periods, baby is less than 6 months, and no supplemental feeding (including food), with no longer than 4 hours between day feeds and 6 in night so night feeds also necessary basically.
If you're having periods you're fertile, but important to remember that you ovulate approx 14 days before your period. So you're actually fertile before your first period and won't know it so could catch with the return of ovulation!

I'm also in awe of people who conceive so quick. I've not even had sex yet this time around and feel like my libido is so low with the struggles breastfeeding, sleeping and not being comfortable in my postpartum body. Can't wait for better weather so can do more walks!

KayakingBex · 15/04/2024 20:37

I got told it’s easier to get pregnant again during the first year after giving birth because of all the hormones.

No period yet for me. Hoping it stays away 🤞. It’s a nice break 😅.

msp2023 · 16/04/2024 09:02

Hello ladies!
How long are your little ones sleeping at night?

I've been aiming for 8.30pm bedtime but only managing to get her down for 9.30pm. 1 or 2 feeds in the night. Then, she's still fast asleep at 8.30/9am! I have to wake her up myself (not sure if I should but it's just so late in the morning!) 11 weeks old now :)

Wondering if I should be starting bedtime much earlier?!

Sunshineclouds11 · 16/04/2024 09:27

@msp2023
10 weeks old, Last bottle and down for the night is between 8-9 sometimes pushing 10.
Also down to one or two feeds in the night she differs each night.
Waking between 6:30/7:30.

I'd take an 8 o'clock wake up any day haha but we have to be up and out for school run.

I'd say her bedtime is pretty much where it needs to be, they do go down late and as they get older it'll be brought forward.

msp2023 · 16/04/2024 09:43

@Sunshineclouds11 thanks lovely!
Haha it sounds like a dream but I just worry about why she isn't waking up on her own!!

Havanalily1806 · 16/04/2024 09:49

@msp2023

We do bath between 6-7 and bottle after this. She then may have a little nap but will always be awake for witching hour 8:30-9:30 and fight sleep so much. During this time depending on when her last bottle was we give 5ml of gripe water and most nights she will be asleep for 9:30-9:45.

We then follow my blissful baby expert and try to fully wake at 11 for a change and feed if she doesn't already wake herself. Some nights she will just refuse to wake and others it's much easier, if she won't wake we dream feed. After that feed we take her upstairs and she sleeps through until 7:30-8:00am. More often that not I'm now having to wake her up, I don't let her go past 8am or I feel my day will all go to pot. I get myself ready before I get her up and feel it makes my day much easier.

She's almost 10 weeks and has been doing this solidly for the last 4 weeks.

She's also started to have a long nap every morning and I've noticed this is now everyday and part of her little routine. It's the one she's the most settled for and lasts the longest so I try to get everything done in that time, and also give myself time for a sit down, coffee and breakfast- it's bliss 😅

The last week or so I'd say I've learnt much more about what she wants/needs and when. She's very clearly over tired during witching hour and cries occasionally (she only ever cries when she's hungry) and we were mistaking this for hunger which was putting the 11pm feed to pot, its now just a battle of lots of shushing, swaying and bum tapping and eventually we win 😂🙌🏽

Sunshineclouds11 · 16/04/2024 09:57

@Havanalily1806 I've been looking at blissfuls routines, how well does she settle back down if fully awake for 11pm feed?
My worry is my DD would be so awake and not go back off to sleep for ages 🫠

Havanalily1806 · 16/04/2024 10:03

@Sunshineclouds11 I thought the same, especially in the early days! Getting her to sleep at night was a small miracle and the thought of waking her up seemed insane 😂

However, she goes back over almost instantly, I end up sitting up with her for longer than it takes to get her back to sleep just to help the milk digest before lying her down. And if not, last night was a good example, I put her in her next to me with the lights off and white noise on, and I brushed my teeth etc in the en-suite right next to her and by the time I was sorted out she'd got herself back off to sleep.

Some nights no matter what I do she absolutely won't wake up 😂 but we've dream fed and she's still slept through, she must just be super exhausted on those days 😅

CheeseAndCrackersx · 16/04/2024 12:04

I think the past couple of nights my little one has gone to sleep earlier, last night was 8:40, Sunday was 9:30. He sleeps 4 hours before waking for a feed, he then wakes every 3-4 hours after that.

I tried the whole dream feeding a few weeks ago but if he didn't take much he still woke a hour later. I may try it again now he's sleep earlier.

He's now 9 weeks old so may have more luck 😀

redxlondon · 16/04/2024 12:39

My little one is 10 weeks old tomorrow. Bedtime between 9 and 10:30 and then can sleep for 7-8 hours. Have occasional nights with a feed between 2 and 5am.

Its working for us, I don’t like the idea of waking a sleeping baby not long after they go to bed, but perhaps because we’re getting 7-8 hours already there’s no point trying this dream routine or whatever it is?

Cheetocat · 16/04/2024 12:56

My little boy still feeds constantly like they should when they're born. I'm getting no sleep at all.

RachLeeds · 16/04/2024 14:47

Baby Charlie is 9 weeks old and formula fed. His bed time is usually around 8-9pm and he sleeps until 5-ish, with one wake up for a bottle about 2-3am. He has slept through a couple of times, hope that comes back soon…🤞🤣 I shouldn’t complain really... I wish he stayed asleep until 8am though, as I am not a morning person.

Tbf he doesn’t cry, so I usually wake up about 6am, depending on how noisy he is been in his Moses basket. He still sleeps a lot during the day so maybe I should try and keep him up more??

DmcinT · 16/04/2024 14:50

We co-sleep and generally go to bed between 8.30-9.30, she will sleep her longest stretch first, anything between 5-7 hrs but after that she wakes every 2-3 hrs for feeds, anyone else breast feeding finding the same?
for waking up.. some days she’s ready for the day to start at 7am, other days we’re still sleeping at 10am.

anyone else struggling to get them to sleep anywhere else but on you?

Ihatewinding · 16/04/2024 16:44

@DmcinT my baby is a contact napper too, my first was the same and I ended up doing gentle sleep training at 6 months called gradual retreat to get her sleeping independently. Might try pick up put down a bit earlier with this one as even with sling my arms, shoulders and back get a bit achy - PUPD supposed to be okay from 4 months but will see how desperate I am by then as wouldn't really want to start so young.

I'm envious of the long stretches overnight!

Mine is 9 weeks and wakes 6:15-6:45ish for day with bedtime around 11/midnight depending on last breastfeed which is usually 10/11.
Night feed around 2:30/3ish.
He used to go in bassinet in living room from 7:30/8-10ish in evening but stopped when he was unwell with his last cold, hopefully will get that independent stretch back.
He will go in his cot with the Purflo in from midnight/half past until night feed where is up for about an hour then sleeps again until waking for first feed of the day.
I nap in the evening while DH holds him so that I can get at least 5/5.5hours in 24. When I get 6+ I feel so much better but means having no evening time with my husband if choose to nap longer then, which gets me down so sacrifice some sleep to spend some time together. As baby contact naps in day there's no chance of a day nap unless husband off work so in evenings or weekends😴

Cheetocat · 16/04/2024 17:33

Our little boy wasn't gaining weight how he should have been and the pediatrician told us to give him a supplement of 1oz in a bottle four times a day. He breastfeeds very often and to end the feed he usually falls asleep or unlatches and purses his lips, placing his head on my boob like it's a pillow. The problem is that when he's breastfeeding he's usually very relaxed and I feed him until he's relaxed when he comes off too but when I give the bottle he tries to chug it (he can't because I'm using a 0m avent natural teet so the milk comes out slowly) and tenses up his body and clenches his fists. After he drinks the ounce of milk and I remove the bottle he stays tense and whinges a bit but has usually stopped by the time he's finished burping. I only give him the bottles after he has already breastfed and is relaxed. We are seeing the pediatritian tomorrow and I'll speak about it with her but I am wondering if he might be still hungry or if he just really enjoys formula or if it's something else, maybe needing a faster teet? I was thinking of offering 3oz and seeing how much he drinks?

He's 9 weeks, 4 days old and was 4,050g/8lb14oz when he was weighed six days ago so he's a bit small but has been gaining better.
