Has anyone got any recommendations of what to use on baby's skin to moisturise please? It's so dry and like layers are peeling off, it's not sore just dry. I don't want to be using anything too harsh on his little body.

I've been using coconut oil and it's done wonders to the peeling skin and skin in general

anony1111 · 12/03/2024 21:13

@Sunshineclouds11 thank you, will order some from Amazon and give it a try

KayakingBex · 13/03/2024 05:14

@DmcinT - I’ll warn you this doesn’t always work for me but I have had some success putting a large blanket down on the bed lying baby on it. Once baby is asleep sliding blanket and baby to the next 2 me. Sometimes worth waiting 20mins to make sure baby fully asleep (tip I got given).

unfortunately sometimes baby startles himself awake and apparently me being next to the next 2 me is not close enough 🫠 which is why I’m awake right now typing this….

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 13/03/2024 06:52

@DmcinT same as @CharXo I've been doing bits and pieces but just trying not to push it too much (almost 4 weeks post c-section). I've got a dog so have been out walking every day with him since day 3. Have done some stretches, gentle lunges and squats, and some arm exercises. Have avoided anything with abs or lifting, and have stopped if I get any aching or pain

Meeting · 13/03/2024 07:46

CharXo · 12/03/2024 17:36

@Meeting what were your little ones symptoms of the CMPA if you don’t mind me asking?

@CharXo severe diarrhea mainly, she would poo before she had even finished the bottle and was doing at least 10 poos a day. She would get really upset and curl herself up into a ball making it difficult to get her wind up sometimes too. We're seeing an improvement already on the prescribed milk which is great. Are you suspecting CMPA for your little one?

Meeting · 13/03/2024 07:49

@DmcinT I find putting her into the next to me while she's sleepy but not yet asleep helped us. If I put her in already asleep she would just wake up and we would have to start again. I went back to the gym after 2.5 weeks but I felt ready and didn't have a section. If you feel you need to go to feel normal then you can always start off really lightly and see how you get on x

redxlondon · 13/03/2024 07:57

I’m 5 weeks post section but only doing walks and sometimes feel very sore in the evening if I’ve done too much, probably from housework not just the walk. There’s absolutely no point in comparing, my midwife said I was doing amazingly post section recovery but hearing people exercise at 4 weeks makes me feel shit (I know that’s not the intention, I am just desperate to exercise and walk for longer).

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 13/03/2024 08:07

@redxlondon tbh if I didn't have a dog and toddler, I'd probably be doing a lot less. Trying to get stronger quickly as I have to walk my dog and I have to take toddler to football classes, gymnastics, softplay etc where I have to run around, chase him, bend etc. Still trying to avoid lifting him or anything heavy though.

Is anyone driving before the 6 weeks post section? I'm thinking of calling my insurance company this week to ask if I can. We're staying somewhere temporarily while we have building work and it's not v easy to get anywhere on foot

I didn't have a section but im not exercising yet! I have no energy for that right now.

Don't be hard on yourself, you've had major surgery mixed with a newborn.
Just go with how you/your body is feeling.

DmcinT · 13/03/2024 08:35

Thanks girls, I think I’ll start with some light exercises at home while LO sleeps and see how I go for a week or 2. Any pain and I’ll just stop.
@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 at 4 weeks I did a little practice run in the car to a shop about a min away (with OH in the passenger seat just incase) and today I’m going to try a little further to a coffee shop, it’s still only 3/4 mins drive but I’m in the country so not within walking distance of anywhere

@KayakingBex thanks for this, I’ll give it a try and see how we go, I definitely don’t sleep properly with her so close beside me, I’m on high alert so I definitely need to try get her into the next to me (even thou its only inches away 😅

Hankthehonk · 13/03/2024 09:02

I'm wondering if there's some trick I just haven't figured out with Co sleeping. It doesn't help so far as my son doesn't want to sleep next to me, he only wants to sleep ON me. Sometimes I manage to gently transfer him into next2me or onto bed once he's already asleep. 9 times put of 10 he wakes up pretty quickly but occasionally we've had stints of him sleeping up to 90 mins.
Basically the only way we are managing is doing shifts and staying awake holding him most of the time. I sleep 10pm-3am and dh sleeps 3am-8am. It's harder when he has work at night but mostly it's OK.

KayakingBex · 13/03/2024 10:53

@DmcinT - good luck! I completely failed last night. Transfer went ok for about 10 mins but then baby boy semi woke up unfortunately at the same time the OH flushed the toilet. Noooo! Instant awake baby. Ended up sleeping on the bed again 😩.

looking forward to getting out and doing things and I really want to do more walking but I’ve been having several problems so far - 1 is the weather is rubbish. 2 when baby had been awake the entire night I generally need sleep more 🫠 3. I’m still quite sore down below, I’m a bit worried I may have a prolapse as it doesn’t feel right. I’d assumed it was probably normal for childbirth and recovering from a tear but starting to wonder it might not be. It feels really weird when I cough. Maybe I’m still healing though - I’ll check at the 6-8 week appointment.

LavenderSweetPea · 13/03/2024 13:46

@KayakingBex how many weeks pp are you? I had a natural delivery, no tears or anything but I definitely still felt sore and swollen and had this really odd, uncomfortable pressure sensation when coughing for at least two weeks after giving birth. You might just need a bit more time to heal x

Hmmm kind of sounds like what our little one is like however I feel it’s more after Ive breastfed rather than after his formula (Im combi feeding). Did you go to midwife or HV?

Meeting · 13/03/2024 17:53

@CharXo you could try going dairy free in your diet and see if things improve with the breast milk? I started off with gp but was referred to hospital

Can I ask if people's stomachs have gone down yet / uterus shrunk, and if people are still bleeding? I'm 4 weeks post c section and still in my maternity clothes. Still bleeding, which my health visitor seemed surprised about yesterday. Wondering if this is normal? I know we're all different, and maybe I haven't been able to be as active this time around. But I didn't have a visibly pregnant stomach last time, and I seem to recall the bleeding had stopped by this point (hazy memory however)

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 14/03/2024 12:44

I don't think I had afterbirth pains either. Although I had painkillers for the 1st few days after c section. Wondering if there's something wrong if my stomach/uterus isn't contracting. Apparently it's common in the first four weeks for it to shrink back down a lot

Do you mean gone down to pre pregnancy size? Mine is down but I’d say I look fatter than pre pregnancy still and that’s normal - not expecting it flat until I can exercise. I’m 5 weeks post section and still wearing pads but bleeding now very light. Some people take 6 weeks for bleeding to stop, it could go longer. My abdomen is very tender, and getting worse so seeing doctor today.

Also takes at least 6 weeks for uterus to fully go down. Don’t think it can be fully down at 4 weeks, hence why doctors do the 6 week check?

DmcinT · 14/03/2024 14:10

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I’m just over 4 weeks and stomach is deff down but not pre pregnancy. I notice in the morning it’s quite flat but by evening it’s a bit more swollen (prob still a bit of relaxant in our bodies)
similar to @redxlondon bleeding is very light now but still slightly there, I wouldn’t go without a pad just yet.

if ur concerned no harm ringing GP or ur PHN for reassurance x

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 14/03/2024 14:45

Thanks @redxlondon and @DmcinT. Mine is still big from under the rib cage all the way down- smaller than the end of pregnancy but I still look about four months pregnant. I didn't really think much of it or the bleeding, until she said you bleed less/lighter after a c section. I'll wait till my 6-8 week check, and then maybe mention it.

Thank you. I was really active after my son, and back in my clothes within a few weeks. Can't see that happening this time, and I'm going on holiday in a month 😩 sorry that's so vain

HopeAndStrength · 14/03/2024 15:00

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I'm almost 6 weeks post c section and was still bleeding a little bit until a few days ago. My stomach is also still quite round in a little bump above my scar.

undercoverhero74 · 14/03/2024 15:38

Hi ladies, I remember a few weeks ago someone asked about post partum BO, and a few of you had the same problem. It would seem I am unfortunate enough to suffer too and was wondering if anyone found a solution or if it has resolved itself as time has gone on?
Baby is only 12 days old so I'm hoping this is just a temporary thing. I wasn't particularly sweaty/stinky before but nothing I am doing is working and I'm worried people may start to notice.
That along with awful night sweats has made me a tad paranoid!
Oh the joys of motherhood 😂😂😂

Cheetocat · 14/03/2024 16:10

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 tomorrow I will be 5w post c-section and I've lost loads of weight from stress, we've been in and out of hospital since baby was born, I am not coping well with it. I'm still bleeding a tiny bit, like a spot twice a day. I keep thinking it's over and it ends up to not be. 🤣

@undercoverhero74 The BO is just easing up for me now and baby is 5w tomorrow. I didn't find anything that helped it, just tried to change my tops and bras oftento o feel better about myself.

Hankthehonk · 14/03/2024 18:31

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I'll be 6 weeks post section on Monday, my uterus has been contracting and stomach going down but it's still like a small preg belly to my eyes. Was flat pre pregnancy and nowhere near it now! It was similar for me last time around with vaginal birth to be honest. So this time I was more mentally prepared for my body to not look like it's mine for a few months.
I'm still bleeding lightly, using one or two pads a day.
Edited to remove horrible things I was saying about my appearance as not helpful! Need to be kinder to myself.
