I noticed the other thread was full and have started a new one.

Lovely to hear of everyone’s 20 week scans. Thanks to those of you who gave me a list of baby essentials, very helpful!

Hope you’re all doing well!

@Hoping4amiracle @AimeeLou84 I'm consultant led to but still have all my check ups with the community midwife. The hospital I will give birth in is closer to work but my community midwife and consultant appointments are done nearer to home which actually feels like more of a faff! Although, I live in Cumbria and for anything really specialist (like fetal medicine) we have to go over to Newcastle!

Hoping4amiracle · 04/03/2024 11:46

I’m in Scotland and as soon as they moved me to consultant lead care I kind of felt dropped by the midwife - which was a shame as she was really helping me control my anxiety.

@AimeeLou84 I’m the same, any time I cough (which is a lot) I’m leaking urine but this didn’t smell like pee and was very thin and watery with no smell to it. I ordered the test pads off Amazon - so hopefully I will get some reassurance tomorrow.

I did have something similar around 16 weeks and midwife said she tested my urine and there was no amniotic fluid in it - I wasn’t sure you could tell from a urine sample though x

CB2805 · 04/03/2024 11:55

@Hoping4amiracle ive been experiencing same thing since around 16-17w and it’s still keeps going. Very watery clear discharge although sometimes has a white hint to it. I was overanxious that was leaking amnio but it seems it’s just the glamour of pregnancy

ps I’ve ordered couple of times the pads of Amazon myself and they put my mind at ease a lot

Bali200 · 04/03/2024 11:57

@Hoping4amiracle also had watery discharge the past few days so I’m hoping it’s normal if a few of us are having it! I’m 22 weeks.

Hoping4amiracle · 04/03/2024 11:58

Thanks @CB2805 - does help to hear that it’s something other pregnant women experience.

its only a small amount when it’s your first you just question absolutely everything!

CB2805 · 04/03/2024 12:03

@Hoping4amiracle i know I’m anxious about everything and not sure what’s normal and what’s not! Certainly Dr Google doesn’t help in those situation😶

Oatmilktea · 04/03/2024 12:08

@Hoping4amiracle I have been experiencing the same for the last week or so. During my 20 week scan they said I had fluid in my cervix but didn’t say any more about it. This got me worrying! I’m also in Scotland too :)

I have a consultant appointment this afternoon to discuss my low lying placenta. I’m due to go on holiday a week today, I’m so hoping she says I’m fit to fly but I doubt it!

Jess725 · 04/03/2024 12:37

Yep, having the same experience here too. Probably since week 16ish and still happening now. Sometimes it catches me by surprise as it is so much fluid 😓

Hoping4amiracle · 04/03/2024 12:42

Okay so it sounds like I’m not alone in this - that’s a relief 😅.

@Oatmilktea good luck with your appointment, hope you are cleared to fly. Can I ask if they tested the cervix was closed at your 20 week scan? X

Oatmilktea · 04/03/2024 13:08

Thank you @Hoping4amiracle. They didn’t test this, no. They done a transvaginal scan to get a better view of the position of my placenta and that’s when they noticed the fluid. I had cause to go to the maternity assessment unit at 17 weeks and they said my cervix was fully closed. There’s just so many things to worry about isn’t there!

@Hoping4amiracle scan was perfect baby boy was wriggling away and all measurements spot on :-) feel so relieved!

Discharge wise I have tons and can be watery - like other posts I have been wearing liners and midwife says v normal x

Hoping4amiracle · 04/03/2024 16:35

Oh lovely - so happy for you. Must be such a relief! X

BananaHammock23 · 04/03/2024 18:21

@Hoping4amiracle its totally possible to leak and then stop. It's called PPROM, look into it and go to the hospital and they can do a swab to see if it was amniotic fluid. I had a full rupture (ie my waters broke) at 30 weeks in my last pregnancy but baby didn't come until 36 weeks. I continued to leak throughout my pregnancy everyday.

I had a scare a few weeks ago and thought it had happened again but the swab came back clear thankfully. Really hope it's ok for you!

MixedCouple · 04/03/2024 18:43

Evening ladies.
Had my 20 week scan. They wouldn't write down the gender only show me on the screen if refused that. So will wait until 28week scan only 8 weeks away.

But all was well with LO very healthy and all looking fantastic, wriggling around non stop and sucking their thumb and drinking lots of fluid non stop. Complete opposite of DS who slept and was pretty lazy the entire time. I had to do jumping jacks to get him to wake up. But this one has been non stop.

Placenta is Posterior Fundus and wraps around a little to the front. Explaina why I can feel all the kicks and movement even the tiny movements feel very obvious. During the scan baby moved about so much and I felt it all. Mainly trying to stretch out as my bladder was so full.

All well otherwise. Just getting heavier and more awkward to move about especially in bed. I ordered my pregnancy Dream Belt and a small firm bolster for my legs.

@BananaHammock23 my Sis inlaw had the same it 28 weeks she carried until 34weeks then was induced.
It is worrying not knowing what is normal amd what's not.

ceruleansky · 05/03/2024 08:29

@MixedCouple
Congratulations on your scan, it's nice that you were able to see baby move around. I've had 5 scans so far and baby has always been so still and mostly upside down. I kept hoping to see them move. I could feel them move when they were getting the scan equipment ready but nothing on the screen a few seconds later! So elusive.

On another note I feel kicks and punches at the same time. Kicks are stronger. If I feel a kick on the side of my tummy I feel a light punch in the middle of my tummy. I've been enjoying it so far. Today baby has been a little quiet, I don't know if it's because I went on an early morning walk. That's the only thing I did differently.
19 weeks today. So close to the halfway point.

ExpectantEs · 05/03/2024 09:37

@ceruleansky During my 20 week scan my baby also wasn't moving a lot like I expected. Wasn't sure if it was because I hadn't eaten breakfast or something.

Also how cute is it that you are able to define a kick from a punch. You've just opened my mind up to what she's possibly doing in there. Most of her movement is in the top middle of my stomach so maybe those are punches? How cute

Oatmilktea · 05/03/2024 09:57

Lovely to hear about you feeling proper kicks and punches 🥰! I’m 20w+4d and I’m feeling flutters but no regular pattern yet. I have a low lying anterior placenta so I’d imagine it’ll be a good few weeks until I feel proper kicks!

Does anyone here struggle with sleeping positions?

I've read/been told that you should ideally not sleep on your back from x weeks onward (opinions on which week exactly differs) - but I am a natural back sleeper. Whenever I wake up, I will have rolled onto my back. I remember this really worrying me last pregnancy as well.

As for other positions, I get insane heartburn on my left (the recommended position) so I can really only lie on my right... and again, remembering from last time, it gets increasingly uncomfortable to only lie in 1 position...

I tried to position myself with my pregnancy pillow and cushions a bit last time, but now I have a toddler who I occasionally co-sleep with, so I can't always do that.

Any advice, suggestions?

justanotherlaura · 05/03/2024 10:38

@AnonymousXXIX I was told by my midwife it was ok on your back as long as you were at 45degrees rather than flat on your back. She said similar angle to the bed we lay on for scans. I've got 4 pillows, it took me a week or so to get used to being propped up so much but I can't sleep on my side all night, I get a sore hip and this works for me!

AnonymousXXIX · 05/03/2024 11:03

@justanotherlaura I'll try that!

Roxystar23 · 05/03/2024 11:05

Hi All,

Just back from my scan appointment with mixed emotions. Whilst it was so lovely to see my little one being so active, we found out that there is an issue with the umbilical cord. There's only one artery instead of two so I'm now considered a high risk pregnancy. I've been booked in for extra growth scans so they can check on the baby. Feels like it's been a rollercoaster of emotions this morning. They said it only tends to happen in about 1% of pregnancies but I just wondered if anyone else here has/is experiencing anything similar?

Nocoffeenotalkie · 05/03/2024 11:15

I'm sorry @Roxystar23 I have no experience with this particular issue but I need extra growth scans at 24, 28, 32, 36 and 38 weeks and am under a consultant. Will you meet with anyone like a consultant who can give you more information?

Hoping4amiracle · 05/03/2024 12:46

Hello @Roxystar23 - sorry I’ve also not heard of this condition but I am in the high risk category due to extremely low Papp-a (0.12 MoM). I’ve been through the same emotions and the only thing I can advise is not to go down the google rabbit hole as it won’t help your anxiety. Focus on the baby being ok now and that you will be more closely monitored xx

MixedCouple · 05/03/2024 13:19

@ceruleansky awww it is bad whetager they move or stay still. my DS was still and was tricky to get measurements. And this one is wriggly and was still hard to get measurments. I can tell a kick from a roll but not pu ches no idea about those. But still very active today. Non stop last night. I had a hard time sleeping.

wannabe123 · 05/03/2024 16:12

@Roxystar23 sorry can't help with experience but at least now they know they can keep a good eye on you.

How is everyone doing? I am feeling better after feeling poorly and not eating much over the weekend. Had yesterday off work and slept for most of the day. Today is my normal day off with my 3 year old and we went about or usual activities but then I get starry vision and a headache so rang triage who arranged for me to see my community midwife. They let me take my son with me which was a relief and nice for him. Thankfully, blood pressure and urine were all fine and we got to listen to baby's heart beat and that was all good too. They think I've maybe just picked up a bug and it's wiped me out a bit. Trying to rest with a little one is literally trying to climb the walls and ready every snack in the house 🫠 thankfully my husband is due home any minute now and I'll sneak up to bed!
