My first two private scans were carried out by actual gynaecologists, so I am confident about those. Because my first two were by qualified professionals I didn’t want to lower the ladder for this scan. It is costly but l, rather safe than sorry.

Fawklight · 31/01/2024 17:15

@Demi55 it's really odd your EPU says not to go private. Mine was actively telling me to go get a private scan and they wouldn't scan me.

Demi55 · 31/01/2024 17:18

@Fawklight really? So they won’t do another scan? Mine are doing a third in 2 weeks and if they. Can’t see a heartbeat they will do another a week later. I feel EPU have been amazing, tbh as soon as I walked into A&E the hospital have been really good! Had so many blood tests and seen so many people! They must get poor scans in my areas I guess

bouncingblob · 31/01/2024 17:24

@emmatcc1 so sorry to hear this. I know we spoke here and in the other thread about being in a similar position with our scans. Take care of yourself and I wish you all the best for the future x

Fawklight · 31/01/2024 17:24

@Demi55 as soon as they consider your pregnancy to be viable they see no reason to see you again.

My husband had to fight for me to be seen due to a bleed.

emmatcc1 · 31/01/2024 17:37

@bouncingblob Hope I didn’t scare you. I think mine wasn’t viable either way. The size of my sac compared to baby was way off and I had a large yolk sac which is an abnormality and has no chance of surviving.

californiacooper · 31/01/2024 17:40

@Demi55 this sounds like me, I'm being scanned again next week (they wanted 2 but I'm not available) and so i presume 2 after that (which should be roughly 6 and 8 weeks all going well)... I guess they won't continue to see me, unless this bicorunate uterus is an issue maybe...

@Fawklight the EPU are seeing me again but I'm not sure how i feel about the private scans now. The EPU lady wasn't too impressed with the private clinics at all.

@Xur i think this sounds like a good one, but yes the cost could add up couldn't it. I'll see what EPU say before I book any more

The pvt clinic called as i asked for my photos and report, she asked how the scan at EPU went and I told her - fine the sonographer may miss a 2mm pole but should have seen a sac (she said there was none) and also measured my ET at 1.4mm when it's actually 12mm. Woman on the phone said she will look into it and offered me a free scan. I will see if I take them up on that as I don't think I will at the moment.

Babyplease23 · 31/01/2024 17:52

Thanks @Caroline2023 lovely to see a fellow IVF'er here! My first scan is next Thursday, I feel like everyday is absolutely dragging. I so desperately want to get it done and have some reassurance that everything is ok!

TTCSoManyQuestions88 · 31/01/2024 18:08

@Ifyouknowyouknowyouknow 6 weeks is when nausea hit me too, I think that's pretty standard. Good luck at your scan!

tierneytarny · 31/01/2024 18:15

Had my scan measuring 1.5-2 weeks behind. The sonographer didn’t seem too concerned but wouldn’t also listen to the fact that science doesn’t support her saying not to worry - I didn’t find out I was pregnant at 2 +4 gestation. They want me to go back in a couple of weeks but I’m not sure. My husband and I saw a flicker of a heartbeat a few times but the sonographer only acknowledged it at the very end. Feeling very fed up and wish I’d heeded everyone’s advice to not go.

cd24x · 31/01/2024 18:17

@emmatcc1 sorry to hear your news. Take care of yourself xx

@Xur @Lillers @Cinai also joining the awful nausea train today. Its hit me so hard today that I've had to take the day off work sick. All I've done is lay on the sofa eating the odd digestive and bit of toast. All I want now is supernoodles and we have none in the house 😩

Glad I’m not alone! Pregnancy and diarrhoea who knew so glam 🤞🏻♥️
I spent most of my lunch battling the cramps and in the loo…
Hang in there ladies I hope it’s going to vanish for us all soon!

californiacooper · 31/01/2024 18:31

@tierneytarny oh no I'm sorry you didn't have the best experience at your scan. How far did you think you were, and how far did they measure you at?
What was the place you went to?

I'm really not sure about the pvt clinics after my visit. DH's sister works in maternity ward of a hospital and says they never trust any reports that come from these scan clinics, a lot of the people aren't properly trained etc.

In the Pvt one for me she was complaining about a lot of gas in the way and also spent ages trying to find the uterus (which I'm not convinced she found!). The woman at EPU was clicking her photos and measuring stuff in a few seconds.

I requested a copy of my photos (as I didn't take print out of my empty uterus the other day lol) and the report/notes and the manager called to ask why so I explained what the hospital found. 🫤

rupertbear91 · 31/01/2024 18:45

Fawklight · 31/01/2024 17:15

@Demi55 it's really odd your EPU says not to go private. Mine was actively telling me to go get a private scan and they wouldn't scan me.

Mine are the same. I just waited in EPU for 5 hours there was no sign of any doctors the nurse told me to come back tomorrow but it's likely the doctor won't be able to give me a scan till Monday as they are so back logged. I have just brought Sundays private scan forward to tomorrow night instead and going from there. I don't have the energy to spend another day on a hospital chair for no outcome 😫

siobhanmt247 · 31/01/2024 18:45

@tierneytarny im so sorry you're left in limbo. I had a similar experience and was very frustrated they kept trying to be positive when I just wanted reality.

bouncingblob · 31/01/2024 18:48

@emmatcc1 No not at all we are all here to share our stories, for good and bad.

I don't think I can be any more scared than I am already thanks to Dr Google! Although the sonographer was convinced it was simply a dating issue - they said it looked healthy for a pregnancy approaching 6 weeks albeit with no fetal pole, but sac was 10mm which was normal - but still by even our most conservative dating, pushing back ovulation and implantation dates, we'd be over a week out from what was measured. The lack of a fetal pole is what's really throwing me. I thought it would have been visible by that stage.

tierneytarny · 31/01/2024 18:48

@californiacooper I realistically thought I was 6+5 weeks but due to my irregular cycle length I thought anywhere from 6 weeks to 6+5 weeks. They measured me at 4+5 weeks. I found out I was pregnant on 16/01/2024 meaning I’d have been 2+4 according to their dates which just doesn’t add up. I explained everything to them and they said not to panic but to book another scan in two weeks. I’m not even sure if I will. I’m sure I saw a flicker of a heartbeat and the receptionist (who was the chaperone and trying to reassure me) said that the flicker of cardiac activity would be stronger in a few days but the sonographer didn’t really acknowledge it. I don’t know what we’ll do. I’m not sure I even want to go back just on the basis of what difference will it make. Either they’re right or wrong and I’m annoyed that she ignored the flicker. I’ve had early scans with my other children and the flicker was the same.

She mentioned an implantation bleed internally too but then said to ignore it.

tierneytarny · 31/01/2024 18:52

@siobhanmt247 did you go back to be rescanned? Part of me just wants to trust my body and part of me thinks, they have the disclaimer that the scans can be a week out and so, then I’d just be 2 days out if I was 6 weeks bang on (which is the absolute latest I would be). But how will I survive at least another six weeks before my NHS scan?

tierneytarny · 31/01/2024 18:55

I also can’t really afford the £80 again which is a bit of a kicker

siobhanmt247 · 31/01/2024 19:08

@tierneytarny i called epau and explained and they booked me for a follow up there. I waited the 2 weeks but they seemed surprised and they would've taken me earlier

Cat2022 · 31/01/2024 19:21

@emmatcc1 sorry about your scan, I seen you are over on the ttc thread that I actually came from. Those ladies are so lovely and been a great support to me since my MC. Wishing you all the best.

@californiacooper what happened to you with the scan has made me decide just to wait till my 12 weeks scan (only 4.5 weeks to go) as to be honest I’d rather just stay in this bubble just now and what will be will be nothing can really change the outcome.

My nausea has been pretty stable the past few days which is surprising as I had HG in my last pregnancy so by this point was on medication it was so bad.

tierneytarny · 31/01/2024 19:24

@siobhanmt247 thats good to know. How far out was your early scan?

I just want to sit and cry but I have bedtime to get through.

californiacooper · 31/01/2024 19:37

@tierneytarny so my private place referred me to EPU because they couldn't see anything they said it was a PUL (pregnancy of unknown location) as she found an empty uterus. I guess as your place saw something in the right place (even though not what you expected) they don't refer you to EPU.
Have you spoken to hospital and booked in with them yet?

siobhanmt247 · 31/01/2024 19:38

@tierneytarny i went at 7+3 and they said I looked more like 5+3. I was tracking ovulation and we only dtd once so I didn't think my dates were wrong. Try and get in for another scan next week. It's really difficult to know what to say in these situations you might not definitely be out

tierneytarny · 31/01/2024 19:46

@californiacooper I think because they could yolk sack and fetal pole etc they just think my dates are out - but I just said to them from a logical point of view, I couldn’t have found out I was pregnant at 2+4 weeks (and I know the date I got a positive test).

I have a booking in appt on 19/02/2024. I’ve not contacted them about the early scan (as it only happened a couple of hours ago and I think the hospital will probably think that there is something there and that I must be out).

@siobhanmt247 I'm the same as you - only DTD once and know the date I ovulated so I can’t see how my dates would be out or that any inaccuracies in the scan would be so far out. Did your dates ever catch up?
