@PeeBeee yeah I'm having similar and in the bum too 😳 baby has been moving lots too which has been uncomfortable today. Hopefully we can both manage to get some rest tonight 🤞🏼

MrsW9 · 12/02/2024 20:06

@anony1111 @PeeBeee I had come to ask if anyone had been having period-like pains. I'm the same gestation and had it, especially this morning - fairly constant rather than coming and going, period back pain with nausea. Not pleasant but glad to hear it sounds like we've all got something similar and therefore my body is maybe doing what it's supposed to!

MummyTo4BoysXXXX · 12/02/2024 20:15

Ladies can I ask something.. dont feel hopefull at all, feeling confused.. my regular midwife just came to see me to do my obs, cervix exam and to do a s&w.. left feeling asif she maybe can't do sweeps properly because upon doing the stretch & sweep she suddenly stopped and I asked why that was and she said I promise you I have just done 1, a mini one? Honestly it was for about 30 seconds!! And she said that's all it takes!? But compared to the one I had done on Friday by a midwife at hospital it was obviously not done that quick and as soon as she took her hand out I started to loose my mucus plug which over weekend (had nothing today though) started to come away in bits and had tightenings straight away too(felt funny walking back to car tbh) also when I asked her how dilated I was she said I think now your at 2-3cm.. well my usual midwife tonight said I'm still at 1-2!? How can their be a difference of an opinion? I don't know how to explain it but I just feel really dissapointed, confused & yeah just I don't even know anymore! 🤷‍♀️ sorry for rant ladies but have your stretch and sweeps lasted 30 seconds? And been a "mini one"?

Hotpolarbear · 12/02/2024 20:26

Had my first ever sweep today as its my due date. She was in there for about 45 seconds max and seemed to be quite thorough. Bloody show on her gloves but nothing since. Never heard of a mini sweep though

I was actually thinking if anyone is interested to start a WhatsApp group for more instant motherhood support especially in those night feeds. My lil one has just turned 1 day old and she's been breast feeding for 8 hours continuously during the night. I barely managed to get two hours of sleep now in the last 24h. It would be nice to hear if one is not alone in the nights 🥲

This is a nice idea. I was wondering what would happen after all of our babies have arrived? Having been through our pregnancy journeys together it feels sad to me to let you all go now, especially when the early days of having a newborn is when I'm having the most questions!

We could have a WhatsApp group, or could we have a February 24 babies thread on the parenting board for those who want to continue?

Ihatewinding · 12/02/2024 23:10

@novamama if you're struggling with breastfeeding I highly recommend seeing a lactation consultant asap, ideally one who is experienced in assessing tongue ties.

My daughter had a severe tongue tie that wasn't recognised so stopped breastfeeding early, so was alert to the possibility with my new baby boy. I'm only day 3 but his feeding was getting so much worse despite being much better prepared this time with knowing positions for deeper latch and antenatal colostrum to support feeding.

Have had 3 midwives tell me they didn't think he had an obvious tongue tie, including one this morning for his weight check. Got told he was latching perfectly (like I said I worked on technique a lot but I could tell he just kept slipping and nipple feeding). 70% mid/posterior tongue tie clipped this afternoon and feeding is so much better already, once got him latched. And luckily as only day 3 my nipples haven't got too much trauma either.

If your baby keeps falling asleep on the boob, you get a lot of pinching or lipstick nipple, then if you can afford it I really recommend going private and getting assessed asap.
I can recommend who I used if based I West Yorkshire. Otherwise can look on here https://www.tongue-tie.org.uk/find-a-practitioner

I like the idea of a Mumsnet postnatal thread, already have way too many active WhatsApp chats!

Waters broken while partner was massaging legs with coconut oil.
Contractions still very mild but hope to be in labour today.
Not sure what worked but had a bath with the Clary Sage oil yesterday and chocolate coated dates and did fair bit of walking and swimming all week.
May have been something triggered by the massage though due to timing so good excuse to get your SO to massage you!

redxlondon · 13/02/2024 02:26

A postnatal thread woyls be great. Newborn crying / awake since 9pm feeding hourly. Feeling lost.

Thewildthingsarewithme · 13/02/2024 03:08

@redxlondon it's so hard at the start, the constant feeding feels relentless. Are you breastfeeding? They do cluster feed to begin with. Are you able to get some sleep in the day? Sending lots of love, it does get so much easier xxx

Hankthehonk · 13/02/2024 04:05

Hope you're doing OK @redxlondon - it may not help when you're exhausted but just to reassure you that sort of cluster feeding is totally normal, my wee one has been the same tonight.
Have you got a partner and have you been able to grab any sleep during the day? Are you breastfeeding?
Sending solidarity!

AllAboardTootToot · 13/02/2024 04:41

amazing @CheeseAndCrackersx , great news to read ❤️

Would love a thread girls, seems a shame to let it fizzle out.

Hang in there @redxlondon ❤️

Ive been woken by period type pains, feels like a big contraction then calms down. Hoping this is the start as this latent phase is brutal! Either come or don’t, just don’t play with me body 😂

LavenderSweetPea · 13/02/2024 05:17

We can do it newborn mamas! The midwife told me cluster feeding is normal during nights 2-5ish. Natures way of encouraging your milk to come in. At two weeks old we've definitely settled into a less frequent, more predictable nighttime feeding routine.

I love catching up with you ladies and seeing the new baby announcements when I'm up at night to feed. Congratulations @CheeseAndCrackersx I'm so pleased for you that baby finally came for you, I hoped that's why you'd gone quiet! I hope things went smoothly once things ramped up

redxlondon · 13/02/2024 10:20

Thanks all. We introduced formula so he could gain some weight, midwife suggested this, and so I could get a few hours block of sleep as my section was extremely brutal, a few issues, and have had really bad anxiety a couple of days. I’m not sure formula is helping, as he’s been sick after formula twice now, and might mean my milk doesn’t come in as quickly. I’ll try more pumping and sleeping today. DH helping so much.

anony1111 · 13/02/2024 10:26

@PeeBeee @MrsW9 how are you both feeling today? I had lots of pressure in the night but seems to have gone this morning. I'm kind of glad though as I really aren't feeling well, got a horrible cough which hurts my bump every time I cough and just generally feeling utter crap! Hoping it doesn't last too long as I have my 6yo at home with it being the holidays!

TheShellBeach · 13/02/2024 10:31

@redxlondon I'd gently suggest that you just breastfeed. No formula. Your body needs the very frequent episodes on the breast to get the supply established. Can you take it a day at a time? Just decide that for one whole day, you'll just give the breast? And then the next?
It's disappointing that your midwife has suggested formula so early on.

Hankthehonk · 13/02/2024 10:36

@DmcinT how are you getting on? Sorry if I've missed an update from you!

@redxlondon sounds like you've had a tough start, hopefully you can find the way forward with feeding that's right for you. I exclusively pumped for my first for a year (long story but short version is she would never nurse) so I'm accidentally a bit of an expert if you have questions about pumping.
My new baby is 8 days old now and we've had a few proper feeds at the breast, mostly I've been expressing again. I'm excited that he is figuring how to nurse, definitely feels like we're learning together. Here's hoping he keeps taking both bottle and boob, that's the dream! My dh and I are doing shifts at night.

Word of warning to everyone who is breastfeeding, don't go more than 3 hours, 4 max, without feeding or pumping, for your own sake (this is assuming you've got someone else feeding the baby and thinking you can get more sleep). Blocked ducts and mastitis can happen really quickly. Maybe this is something everyone knows but I didn't with my first baby and ended up in hospital on intravenous antibiotics as mastitis was so bad. Watch out for lumps, redness or soreness in your boobs and get baby or pump on it asap if it happens. Public service announcement over, sorry!

PeeBeee · 13/02/2024 10:43

@anony1111 i feel absolutely fine now! My elcs is booked this time next week and I have a cough too, as does DD so starting to think maybe not going into labour beforehand is a good thing! Lol

Thewildthingsarewithme · 13/02/2024 11:13

Did anyone feel a bit strange after their s and s? I immediately feel a bit crampy and shaky and like everything is going to start 😂

MrsW9 · 13/02/2024 11:23

@anony1111 I'm also feeling back to normal (relatively speaking) today. Quite relieved as wasn't really feeling ready for everything to kick off - and I haven't started mat leave yet!

Does anyone else have an induction or section booked for a day that falls during the strikes? I have an induction booked and I'm feeling somewhat anxious that it could be delayed.

TheShellBeach · 13/02/2024 11:28

@MrsW9 inductions often take several days so don't be too worried. They get delayed all the time anyway. I hope yours goes to plan though!

Meeting · 13/02/2024 11:47

Hi all, haven't been on for a few days. Baby girl arrived on Saturday 💗 labour was very long and traumatic and I ended up having an epidural but the birth was pretty straightforward in the end.

Would definitely be up for a thread for everyone to join once their babies are born! Not much sleep at night at the minute so any advice and support on what's working for others would be lovely x
