Is it normal to come out in red blotches and for them to be so itchy post birth?
I can't remember this with my first.

Did you have opiate meds during labour?

novamama · 12/02/2024 00:17

Our baby girl was finally born at 4 AM last night, weighting 7lbs 8oz, 95h after waters breaking and 36h in labour at home, 14h epidural&drip.

Absolutely exhausted but so happy to get baby cuddles and meet the little feeties that have kicked me so much 🥰

RachLeeds · 12/02/2024 01:33

Baby Charlie born on his due date (11/02/2024) weighing 7 pounds 15 oz - birth story for another day 😅 but we’re both doing well

Sooo the last 24 hours have been a bit of whirlwind.

I had my pessary for induction put in at around 10:10am (painful!). Went for a wander around hospital grounds while having some mild period like pains came back for lunch. Period pains became more like painful period pains. Then at about 2:15 I was having really strong painful contractIons and started really needing pain relief - they gave me paracetamol initially as they didn’t think I could be that far along yet. I then threw up and they gave me codine. Somewhere around 4 or 5 I asked my husband to get a midwife because I was getting really strong urges to push / felt like I was going to poop. They checked me found I was 8 cm dialated finally removed the pessary and rushed me to the birthing pool that was thankfully free where I finally got gas and air and I gave birth to a mermaid baby (waters didn’t break till the very end) at 7:34pm (11/02/2024)

I think the speed I gave birth at threw the midwives. I can’t tell you how much I was relieved to get in that pool and have the gas and air! Or how much I wanted to strangle someone when they made me get on my back to check baby heartbeat. (He was back to back and it was stupidly painful having contractions like that).

Wee boy Malcolm (11 days overdue) is very healthy - latched well and I managed to feed him before I got taken into theatre for stitches which was magical.

I ended up with a suspected 3rd degree tear so got taken to theatre a couple of hours later. Turned out to be 2nd degree tear so I have stitches - legs still numb from the spinal block. Sleeping as much as I can and midwives are helping me with wee one as I can’t move around much right now - husband away getting some sleep so he can help me later today.

oh and yes this means our birthdays are all in a row. 11th is my wee boys, 12th is my husbands and 13th is mine 😆

Ebonythoughts · 12/02/2024 04:16

Many many congratulations to all you brilliant mamma’s who have given birth! Enjoy the bubble and hope you all rest and recover well. Sending love ❤️

Sunshineclouds11 · 12/02/2024 06:56

@TheShellBeach I didn't, I went straight for the eqidural.
Other drugs were the hormone/contraction drop

Hankthehonk · 12/02/2024 07:06

@novamama @RachLeeds @KayakingBex huge congratulations! And any other new arrivals I've missed, they're coming thick and fast now it's wonderful. We should start a list on the thread of all the babies that have arrived! Not quite sure how to do this though

Bookwormmumuk · 12/02/2024 09:54

Still no progress for me yet but I'm not due for another 10 days so I'm trying not to be too impatient.

Congratulations to everyone who have had their wee bundles already it's so lovely to see.

MummyTo4BoysXXXX · 12/02/2024 10:31

What lovely news to wake up too first thing on a morning! congratulations to those of you who have had your babies 🎊🥳 glad all is well with you mamas & your little bundles of joy 🩷💙

It's our little girls due date today, had a call from my midwife this morning who offered to book me in for an induction tomorrow (something I've wanted to avoid) so politely said no to that! & instead will go for another s&s in the hope that 3rd time lucky 🤞 it will help start things off!🤞

@CheeseAndCrackersx you've been abit quiet recently but just to let you know your in my thoughts & hoping that if not by now you have had your baby, that he will be arriving any time soon for you hun 😊 & hope everything goes all ok too 💕

novamama · 12/02/2024 10:40

I was actually thinking if anyone is interested to start a WhatsApp group for more instant motherhood support especially in those night feeds. My lil one has just turned 1 day old and she's been breast feeding for 8 hours continuously during the night. I barely managed to get two hours of sleep now in the last 24h. It would be nice to hear if one is not alone in the nights 🥲

PeeBeee · 12/02/2024 11:35

Hey all! Ive just left the hospital as was in for reduced movements. They are happy with baby on ctg and im showing that i am having tightenings (i thought i was having them last night so glad to know that i know what a tightening is😅). They also found traces of protein in my urine and said they would send it off to check for preeclampsia. When i went off ctg machine they were sending me on my way and i said how long would it take for urine results and she said oh hold on and il check then came back, sending me away again so i asked again and she said oh it was just a trace so didnt need to be sent away anyway but if u get pains on top of bump or headache come back up ☹️i feel so uneasy now being told it was being done then that it wasn’t? Seems a bit strange. I think they forgot to send it or something. So now I am heading home less reassured than I was going in

Hawk901 · 12/02/2024 12:24

Currently sat in hospital now as been leaving wet patches everywhere I go for three days. They’re going to do a cervix check to see if it’s waters and said I’ll be induced today if it is. Never hoped for bad bladder control so much in my life.

@PeeBeee i had protein in most of my samples, usually urine infections and they will suggest antibiotics etc, if you don’t have any symptoms of pre ec they don’t tend to do tests, do you have any urine infection symptoms?? I never did and it went straight to my kidneys so defo ring and ask if it’s playing on your mind x

TheShellBeach · 12/02/2024 13:06

Sunshineclouds11 · 12/02/2024 06:56

@TheShellBeach I didn't, I went straight for the eqidural.
Other drugs were the hormone/contraction drop

The epidural usually has fentanyl in it.

The itching is very likely a response to that.

NamelessNinja · 12/02/2024 13:24

Hi all, congratulations on all the babies born so far! I was on this thread early pregnancy but haven't been around for a while but would love to dip back in if that's ok. Currently 38+5 and stressing about going into labour this week whilst my big two are off school/preschool and at home!
@PeeBeee Did they do any bloods? I had a specific one that looks for a pre eclampsia protein indication I think when had some symptoms. But if your blood pressure is ok I wouldn't worry?

anony1111 · 12/02/2024 14:34

Hey, 38 weeks today for me! I feel absolutely shocking! Can't decide if im getting the lurgy everyone has had in my house or its signs of things starting to happen. For the last few days I've been having period type pains and back ache alongside feeling nauseous and going to the loo more. Last night my hips and pelvic pain was the worst it's ever been and woke up feeling like I've been run over! Been having bad lower back pains and sometimes feels like it's going down the backs of my legs too.
I know no one will know for sure but what do you ladies think? I'm well and truly fed up today so sorry to come on and moan! First day of the school holidays too 🙃

PeeBeee · 12/02/2024 17:09

@anony1111 38 weeks tomorrow and I am the exact same and a ctg showed i was having tightenings but again, even that in itself can mean absolutely nothing😅its fun, isnt it?😂

anony1111 · 12/02/2024 17:33

@PeeBeee I would love to say yes but I would definitely be lying 🤣 sorry your suffering too, hopefully things get moving for us soon! My last baby I went in to be induced and my waters went on their own whilst waiting but I never had any of these feelings. Have you had lots of pressure down below too?

PeeBeee · 12/02/2024 17:41

@anony1111 yes, i get up and walk and actually have to stop because the fanny daggers are INSANE, like so intense that i yelp🙈i cant remember having this with my first but then again, i didnt go into labour naturally with her, i was induced so maybe baby is just really engaged!

Ebonythoughts · 12/02/2024 17:59

Hi all,

Quick question, I’m 41 weeks tomorrow and my community midwife keeps calling me. She called me yesterday and the day before and so today I just avoided her calls but she left me a voice note saying that because I’m overdue and not yet in labour that they need to see me. I told her I didn’t want any intervention including sweep and that I’d rather wait it out at home for as long as possible but I feel quite pressured now.

My pregnancy is low risk and as much as I’m frustrated and exhausted that baby isn’t hear yet I am otherwise well and baby’s movements are fine so I don’t know why I need to go in. I don’t mind going in for a check up but I don’t want to go there and be pressured as my anxiety levels are already quite high.

Has anyone else had this? Am I overreacting?

TheShellBeach · 12/02/2024 18:05

@Ebonythoughts nobody can make you be induced.

My waters broke at 41 weeks and DS didn't start to make an appearance for another fortnight.

Just phone the midwife back and tell her you don't want any interventions. You don't need to discuss it. Be firm.

Allthatglittersisntart · 12/02/2024 18:13

Personally I find the community midwives are very supportive of mother’s choice (my body, my baby, my choice mantra) while some doctors really push induction and sweeps and want baby out(been in for movements with anterior placenta but baby is always very healthy on ctg). Last time a Dr. made me stressed but midwife told me to relax and have hugs to increase oxytocin!

Id go in, they can’t pressure you into anything, they just want to monitor and check you and baby are okay.

I am booked for induction Wednesday at 40+6 and the midwife said to go in but I can be firm if I change my mind once they've done tests.
