@DmcinT @TheShellBeach thanks ladies for replying to my post 😊 helps me make sense and @TheShellBeach she is 2/5ths engaged in pelvis like lastweek but 3/5ths palpable? My midwife does it other way round lol if that makes any sense... @CheeseAndCrackersx nice to see your update as things look like they are definatly progressing for you, shouldn't be much longer now I should think get bouncing on that birthing ball woman 😀😁😂 x

MummyTo4BoysXXXX · 07/02/2024 20:57

@Meeting contractions are felt across the whole of your bump/belly basically when it feels really tight then relaxes then also you will feel the pain in your back aswell if that makes sense? Don't know if I'm explaining it right but that's how it feels and the real deal too me anyways.. they become more closer and intense as time goes on hun x

Meeting · 07/02/2024 21:08

@MummyTo4BoysXXXX thank you that's really helpful, Google was just confusing!

MummyTo4BoysXXXX · 07/02/2024 21:11

@Meeting no worries 😊 how you feeling? Have you got long to go at all?

Meeting · 07/02/2024 21:22

@MummyTo4BoysXXXX feeling fed up if I'm being honest! It's my due date on Friday and I've still had absolutely no signs of arrival. I'm in for a sweep tomorrow after a failed attempt last week so really hoping for a successful one this time 🤞how are you getting on x

TheShellBeach · 07/02/2024 21:25

@Meeting contractions are felt under your bump, and in your lower back.

I mean the pain is felt there. But the whole bump gets hard when you have one.

MummyTo4BoysXXXX · 07/02/2024 21:28

@Meeting n'aww bless you hun well I'm due Monday so hopefully won't be much longer for both of us! And I hope your s&s all goes well for you tomorrow🤞 was your failed attempt due to not been able to have one done at all? Or has it just not encouraged anything? Well for me today found it too uncomfortable so she only managed half of it she said. I haven't had any tightenings though :/ but all of a sudden baby has started moving loads and feeling sick and dizzy in myself to be honest? Don't know if it's related 🤔 x

TheShellBeach · 07/02/2024 21:33

If you think of the baby's whole head, when a midwife says it's 2/5 palpable, it means that 3/5 is in the pelvis. The head is regarded as engaged if most of it is in the pelvis. In other words, if the head is 2/5 palpable or 1/5 palpable, it's engaged in the pelvis. You may occasionally see 0/5 palpable which means that the whole head has descended into the pelvis and the midwife can't feel any of it in your abdomen.

When women have had babies before, the head often doesn't engage until labour is established.

Edited

Hmm maybe I am having some light contractions then, I get pain in my pelvic area and my bump does go completely hard. No back pain though, god this is confusing!

@MummyTo4BoysXXXX hopefully we both start to show signs soon, sorry you had a tough time with sweep today. You never know it might still have triggered something. Last week baby's head was too low down for her to be able to reach, which does make me wonder how she will manage tomorrow, but I guess I'll find out!

TheShellBeach · 07/02/2024 21:55

You don't have to have back pain! Some women don't.

redxlondon · 07/02/2024 22:11

Thomas T was born at 11:27am this morning, 8lbs at 38 weeks and 6 days. I’m in a lot of pain but made better with some amazing cuddles.

novamama · 07/02/2024 22:13

Ladies, nothing helped me, still no contractions. My "safe" period expires in 50 min :( I think it will just have to be a delivery suite baby at some point...

Aww, many congratulations @redxlondon !! Enjoy end speedy recovery your way ❤️

amyg1985 · 07/02/2024 22:15

Congratulations on Thomas's safe arrival @redxlondon - hope you make a speedy recovery x

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 07/02/2024 22:24

Congrats @redxlondon !! Wishing you a speedy recovery

@novamama good luck. My delivery suite experience was nice honestly, the room and midwife were fab still. I think you wanted the MLU and water birth from memory, I'm sorry if you don't get to have this

@Meeting and @CheeseAndCrackersx apparently these contractions can go for days. I've had them for a while, as for me they're pretty mild, even when regular intervals. Mucus plug can also come out days before labour. Hopefully we will go quicker! But hate being in limbo

KayakingBex · 07/02/2024 22:41

wow it’s all go on here today. Good luck ladies - hope things all go smoothly for you and continue progressing 🤞. Hopefully lots more February babies tomorrow.

@redxlondon congratulations on your wee one! I wish you a speedy recovery.

My wee one is staying stubbornly inside - 1 week overdue now at 41 weeks. No mucus plug yet or waters breaking 🫠. I’ll be induced on Monday if he doesn’t come this week.

RachLeeds · 07/02/2024 22:59

Congratulations @redxlondon - wishing you a speedy recovery

I think I need to get bouncing/walking. Very jealous of you ladies that are progressing 🤣

Ebonythoughts · 07/02/2024 23:55

Ah many many congratulations!!! Hope you feel better soon, enjoy the cuddles ❤️

Allthatglittersisntart · 07/02/2024 23:57

Also went in for movements
. How do you know engagement and cervix length?
40e tomorrow but hospital just put me on monitor (and give induction leaflet) and midwife did same checks as earlier weeks at 39w apt

Cheetocat · 08/02/2024 00:54

The hospital bed in this dilation room is so uncomfortabl and somehow too short for me, I'm 5'6. Would be tolerable if I could toss and turn but I've got the monitors on so I can't or they'll get misplaced and start beeping. It's absolutely roasting too and all the staff were freaking out every time they walked in because I had the window open and eventually one of them closed it without giving me a choice. I sleep with my window open every night at home. No hope of me nodding off any time soon.

AllAboardTootToot · 08/02/2024 01:59

@Cheetocat ask them for a fan.

the beds are brutal! Hopefully you manage some rest!

LavenderSweetPea · 08/02/2024 04:25

@Meeting I didn't get back pain at all with my contractions. Felt more like period pain and in a similar location.

@redxlondon congratulations! Great choice of name too ❤️

@novamama I'm sorry to hear your contractions didn't start naturally. Perhaps you've already started induction but if not can you ask them to monitor you and baby in hospital and give you a bit more time for things to start on their own if that's still what you want?

novamama · 08/02/2024 05:38

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 thank you lovely, that's really lovely to hear.

@LavenderSweetPea I haven't gone in yet. 24h mark has just passed since my waters broke, but I started having mild - I think contractions - at around 1 AM. I'll wait until it's light outside to go in, I'd rather relax in my own bed even if I cannot sleep. Thank you for the advice, I'll ask to see what they say regarding these contractions, if they are satisfied with them.

They start like a BH, but then they go low for me, and pain starts building up underneath the bump, with a feel like a pre period pain and then a more solid day 1 period-type pain. Then there is a peak of pain, that then starts diffusing out until it is completely gone after a total of 20-30s. Do these sound like real contractions ?? I hope so!

novamama · 08/02/2024 06:51

I called MAU, and because things started progressing I don't need to go in for them to break waters. As long as I get into established labour by 48h mark, I can stay at home - so happy about that! I will have to go to delivery suite however when I am in established labour as they will need to give me antiobiotics.

For now, I'm very happy to be labouring at home until I am ready ❤️❤️❤️

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 08/02/2024 07:22

@novamama yay! A bit of a reprieve and sounds very positive it's progressing! That sounds like what I've been having, being low down period like cramping. But mine is still mild 😑
