Thanks for all the well wishes!

Those of you who said induction takes a while we're not wrong! I've been in since 10.30 and not much progress. We've established that I'm already 2-3cm (no pain or anything though 🤷) so they're waiting for delivery suite so they can break my waters. I've asked not to be put on the drip immediately as I know it can increase the risk to baby and several friends have had c sections due to it... So hoping my body takes over when they eventually break them!

Havanalily1806 · 03/02/2024 17:02

It's my due date today.

We went in to the assessment unit with reduced movements earlier, I just wasn't sure so wanted to be checked over given the gestation.

All was fine but they offered me an induction which I declined. They explained they do this for anyone in for reduced movements after 39 weeks. I really want to avoid an induction and felt there wasn't enough of a reason.

They have put me in for a scan early next week to check everything and from there I can make a further decision.

I just don't feel like baby is ready yet, no signs and really don't want to force it and end up in hospital for days, or with an instrumental delivery/worse tearing etc.

Keeping an eye on movements but they've been fine since.

@RegardingPersephone what is the reason for your induction if you don't mind me asking?

Allthatglittersisntart · 03/02/2024 17:39

They offered me stretch and sweep(39+2) and looked quite surprised when I declined(since all normal, just anterior placenta/baby rest day) . We’re not ready yet and sure baby is happy in there!
I think many people are impatient to meet baby and just accept.

Shrillwaffle · 04/02/2024 01:53

@CharXo i started to run out of baby vests and cardigans in my bag just because we had to stay in longer so make sure you pack enough other than that there wasn’t much I didn’t use

How many did you go through a day?

I think it’s more about accepting medical advice than impatience. I’m surprised how many people reject advice … maybe I’m too trusting but I’ve always followed medical advice unless there are risks / cons the doctor helps me weigh up to reject it.

CharXo · 04/02/2024 07:04

@Shrillwaffle thank you! Hope you and baby are doing well 💞

Meeting · 04/02/2024 10:54

I hope everyone is having a lovely weekend!
I'm really struggling with the waiting. It's not even my due date for another few days but the way my midwife was talking at my 38 and 39 weeks appts made it sound like baby was going to be here any minute. She actually said she was shocked to see me back at 39. I wish she hadn't mentioned anything because it really mentally had me prepared for baby to arrive and now I just feel constantly disappointed :(

DmcinT · 04/02/2024 11:13

@Meeting im the exact same. Drs and MWs had me all prepared that I’d go into labour getting the stitches out, they even remove them in the delivery suite so ur there and prepared🙈🫠 that’s 10 days ago now and nothing!
leaving the hospital they said ‘oh we’ll prob see u back in a day or 2’ etc..
I really wish they’d said nothing as now I’m sitting here feeling like I’m 2 weeks over or something and every day feels long waiting 😏

Meeting · 04/02/2024 11:19

@DmcinT glad to know I'm not alone but sorry you're feeling the same way! I honestly think they shouldn't say things like that as I'm exactly the same and it's really made this last week or so feel like torture! I know exactly what you mean about feeling like you're overdue as that's how it is for me 😤

anony1111 · 04/02/2024 11:43

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

@Meeting @DmcinT this happened to me with my first, it's such a struggle when they have got your hopes up. Hopefully you both won't have too much longer to wait, hang in there 💕

This morning I have woken up with a sore patch on my bump, it's not "inside" as such but feels more like my skin if that makes sense? There isn't any marks or anything just feels a bit tender to touch, just wondering if anyone else has had this?

CheeseAndCrackersx · 04/02/2024 11:44

I'll be glad to go to the toilet and no longer look for/hope to see mucus plug 🙈😄

Callmemummynotmaaa · 04/02/2024 11:59

@anony1111 Ive had this now for a few days. It’s a tender patch, feels like a bruise but doesn’t look like one!

To all those waiting. I know it’s not that reassuring as the end of pregnancy is hard, but I’ve had 37/38 weekers and one at 40+2, and may be it’s just chance, but he was a much more settled baby, fed easier and could be put down a bit more. He wasn’t heavier! But I tell myself each extra week inside (if you’re lucky enough to be able to have them) help. And that keeps me going!

amyg1985 · 04/02/2024 12:33

This is me @CheeseAndCrackersx - constantly looking for that plug!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 04/02/2024 13:00

I'm v torn between induction and waiting for a natural birth, although there doesn't seem to be a choice as they won't offer me an induction until I'm pretty overdue. I'm just scared to wait as I know the placenta can degrade as you get to term. And I'm older also at 39, and it seems other resist are offering earlier inductions to older mums.

I had an induction at 37 weeks based on medical advice last time, and it was okay. I was just so grateful and relived to get him out alright.

@DmcinT and @Meeting agreed - my community midwife said 2nd baby, measuring large, has been engaged for a while, she expected me to be with baby when she saw me next. Nope, I'm in for a sweep with her tomorrow, so that was pretty wrong 🙄

RachLeeds · 04/02/2024 13:35

For anybody having sex to induce naturally, apparently it needs to be 3 times to have an effect. Not sure if that is 3 times in one go, or 3 consecutive days etc 😅

There’s also something called the “Miles circuit”, which is supposed to get baby in a good position/encourage labour.

I wish my nesting instincts would kick in, as I could really do with cleaning the house but just have zero motivation 🙈

Ihatewinding · 04/02/2024 14:22

@RachLeeds where did you hear about the sex three times? Had twice this week but I'm in agony with my pubic bone now so don't think can hack a third 😩 can't walk without being in pain today.
Will defo be asking for a sweep at my MW appt on Tuesday, will be 39+6 then. Been very weepy today as don't feel up to the physical natural induction tips and just want baby here. I can't even snuggle up in bed as it hurts to lie on my sides after even short periods of time and awful just trying to reposition.
Feeling very sorry for myself but will order spicy takeaway tonight!

@CheeseAndCrackersx @amyg1985 Me 3! 🤣

RachLeeds · 04/02/2024 16:11

@Ihatewinding it was an American Tiktok so not sure how scientific the info is unfortunately!

Ordering a yummy take away sounds like a good plan ☺️ I’m going to book myself a pregnancy massage for Tuesday, as a reward for cleaning the house tomorrow.

Sunshineclouds11 · 04/02/2024 16:59

I was 2/5 engaged on Friday, no idea what that means really 😅 but I swear I've just felt her drop further.

I'm tired, big, fed up. Wish the next week away and hoping she comes abit earlier!

DmcinT · 04/02/2024 17:13

@Ihatewinding sorry ur in so much discomfort, I hear u on all positions just feeling uncomfortable 🙈 randomly I’m so teary this afternoon, I’ve had to come out for a drive and will stop off somewhere for a walk, I just can’t face another evening sitting at home waiting 😫😣

Mummapenguin20 · 04/02/2024 17:31

I’m also very teary today @DmcinT x

Ihatewinding · 04/02/2024 18:00

@RachLeeds not sure American tik tok science is worth crippling myself more for! Massage sounds amazing, reminds me that I had planned to book myself something expensive and nonrefundable to guarantee going into labour just before 😅

@DmcinT I even had a scout of Mumsnet threads to see if being emotional and crying was a labour sign but not conclusive unfortunately.

Is anyone else's pelvis cracking? Like when I go to turn over in bed the pain builds then the pubic bone cracks, can hear it like the sound of a tree branch snapping and then the pain eases a bit. Can happen when just getting out of bed as well. Otherwise generally a bit crunchy and clicky but this cracking is on another level.

This has been a really good podcast with obstetric doctors and midwives who provide information, and lots of myth debunking. I think in the descriptions it will say which show covers inductions, it will be between 36 and 38. She explains why sex may help - but if your body isn’t ready to labour it’s not just going to magically happen, otherwise sex would be banned until week 37! https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/is-it-normal-the-pregnancy-podcast-with-jessie-ware/id1584474367?i=1000548774464

@Callmemummynotmaaa yes feels exactly like that but haven't bumped it or anything. I guess it could just be the skin stretching as bump gets bigger!
