@amyg1985 think bump has dropped since I commenter so think that’s exactly what it was, thank you!

amyg1985 · 23/01/2024 16:52

It's so painful, isn't it? Fingers crossed baby stays in position for you @PeeBeee

Sugarplumw · 23/01/2024 17:24

I had a sweep yesterday and not feeling the best today. The cramps have gone but I lost a big amount of mucus plug a few hours ago and was sick after eating toast. Does anyone think this is a good sign of labour possibly slowly starting or something wrong?

msp2023 · 23/01/2024 17:37

@Sugarplumw I just wanted to ask how the sweep was on the pain scale?
I've been offered one at 40 weeks if I haven't gone into labour yet but I've heard scary things!

I hope that is the beginning of labour for you!

CharXo · 23/01/2024 17:41

I’d say they were good signs @Sugarplumw 🤞🏽🤞🏽

Mangotango39 · 23/01/2024 17:42

I can't believe we are all so close now. We have mostly all been here since the very beginning , way back months ago.

who will be first to pop (behind the twins the group already had of course!) 😚

Sugarplumw · 23/01/2024 17:43

@msp2023 I was really nervous for it but it wasn't bad at all, just a bit uncomfortable but it doesn't last long. Speculum is worse for me

Sugarplumw · 23/01/2024 17:44

@CharXo I hope so! I haven't had any contraction pains but fingers crossed the sweep did something

CheeseAndCrackersx · 23/01/2024 17:58

Anyone else just feeling sore down below?
I haven't been til he's now dropped fully and it just feels so sore.

mummylove24 · 23/01/2024 18:08

Yeah when I stand up, baby is like pushing on my bladder / cervix, I have this funny waddle now 🐧😂 then pain it eases up slowly

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 23/01/2024 18:29

@Sugarplumw sounds like labour starting, but I'm sorry about the being sick, that must have been horrible

RachLeeds · 23/01/2024 18:40

Good luck! Losing mucus plug sounds like your cervix is dilating.

Do they offer everybody a sweep at 40 weeks? I haven’t had my 38 week appointment yet, do they discuss anything regarding labour at that appointment?

msp2023 · 23/01/2024 20:03

@RachLeeds
My midwife discussed labour with me at 36 and 38 week appointments.

36 weeks was running through things like pain management options, vitamin K injection for baby, injection for placenta delivery etc

At my 38 week appt, we discussed what happens if labour doesn't come naturally by 40, 41 and 42 weeks.

Sugarplumw · 23/01/2024 20:06

I'm not sure how they offer sweeps, I had mine at 37+2 as my consultant understands the issues I've been having with my body. Had a few problems with another consultant when I went for the sweep which is a whole other story, and the midwife said she was expecting to not be able to do it. Turns out my cervix was easy to reach and she did the sweep easily and felt the baby's head as well. But I do know they should offer a sweep before any kind of induction

Cheetocat · 23/01/2024 20:24

Had my 36 week check up today. Obstetrician said that she's hoping I go into labour sooner rather than later because baby seems ready and to start doing whatever I can to get it going as soon as I hit 37 weeks on Saturday. She said to do lots of walks and going up and down stairs and exercising on the birthing ball. I'm really excited for baby to come soon! My sister is turning 40 on the 8th of Feb, she's wishing for him to come on the day, I don't know about that. 🤣

Sugarplumw · 23/01/2024 20:26

@Cheetocat I wish mine were like that! I've been made to feel bad that I'm struggling at 37 weeks and that I shouldn't have a sweep done, despite having fibromyalgia

Cheetocat · 23/01/2024 20:31

@Sugarplumw Aww I'm sorry, they should not be dismissive of what you want, especially with a chronic condition like that, which I'm sure is already a lot to deal with. If you feel ready and all is okay with baby then there's nothing wrong with having them out soon.

Allthatglittersisntart · 23/01/2024 20:35

Did she say those things speed up labour? Doing them all and really don’t want baby to arrive early! Or does that only apply if baby already showing signs?

Hankthehonk · 23/01/2024 20:41

With my first pregnancy I was offered a sweep and booked in for it at 39+6
I didnt find it painful or uncomfortable. My waters went on the way home from the sweep so I guess it worked 🙃 although turned out only half my waters and I did end up needing the rest burst and induction drip sadly. But I'll take sweep again this time if it gets to that stage.

She said that ill go into labour faster than if I'm not doing them, not that it would definitely get labour going, if that makes sense.

Sugarplumw · 23/01/2024 20:50

@Cheetocat baby is definitely on the right track, she's engaged and the midwife was surprised she could do the sweep so easily. I've been trying the usual methods to help progress things despite being in so much pain, it's just a waiting game now. Hopefully you have some luck this weekend too

RachLeeds · 23/01/2024 20:57

Thank you so much for the info @msp2023. I don’t feel like I get much info from the midwives. It’s just BP check, urine, bump measurement and on my way. Last time they asked if I was doing the NHS antenatal classes, which I am, and the last class is with a midwife so think that covers the birth.

msp2023 · 23/01/2024 21:03

@RachLeeds no worries lovely. Don't worry, a lot of the information can be found online too! (Though I know the midwife should really go through it with us!)

Here's a video I watched with my husband to go over the info covered at the appts:

Hopefully this helps a bit too :)

RachLeeds · 23/01/2024 21:23

Thanks again @msp2023 . That’s really useful 😊I’ll have a watch and show my boyfriend too.

I’ve found the same, nothing they’re meant to cover beyond urine, BP and fundal height gets covered. I’m going to raise it post birth, along with other concerns to hopefully help improve experiences for future mums!
