Hi, I was just wondering is it ok to eat bit of chocolate in first trimester. I've had breakfast but my gosh I'm still hungry and fancy chocolate. I didn't know if it was ok or not as I've heard certain foods are a no no. Thanks in advance.

Read Expecting Better by Emily Oster

And just remember if X food were actually harmful in pregnancy, nobody would need an abortion. They'd just eat X food

Enjoy your chocolate breakfast !

My second child was made almost exclusively from chocolate and crisps.

I’d just use the nhs list if you’re in the UK

Edited

Thank you, that list scared me seeing tea on there as past two days I've had a few cups of tea and one coffe 😫🙈

It just says not to have not too much tea or coffee. Do you have someone with you who can read it through with you?

Honestly I only drink tea and coffee, and I have alot of it. When I was pregnant I never changed the amount. Got a healthy 15mo who was grown on coffee and chip shop food as that's what I craved🤣😆

You could always have some decaf tea/coffee and then you could have your usual number of cups but a mix of caffeine levels.

If you look at the page it does say. It works out as 2 1/2 cups of tea a day, or a coffee. But you won’t have done any harm, you can bear it in mind from now on. Perhaps you have done normal tea and some decaff.

I also suggest reading Expecting Better, but there are masses of books and information available online. The NHS is the best resource for food advice though.

Recommended caffeine in pregnancy is around 200mg per day, and below is chart showing roughly how much in different drinks.

Remember there's also some caffeine in chocolate, but not much. I eat a bit of chocolate but don't tend to worry about counting it in my caffeine per day. I also sometimes have 3 instant coffees, or bigger cups than these sizes, or a couple of coffees and a tea. As long as you're not mainlining double espressos all day long you'll be fine.
