Hi, I was just wondering is it ok to eat bit of chocolate in first trimester. I've had breakfast but my gosh I'm still hungry and fancy chocolate. I didn't know if it was ok or not as I've heard certain foods are a no no. Thanks in advance.

I just followed the NHS guidelines in the link you've been given. It's very simple to follow. Don't Google! For caffeine I had one caffeinated drink a day, sometimes 2, and had decaf the rest of the time. I didn't bother counting chocolate.

If you're very early on in the pregnancy, you may find your appetite is about to change anyway. For my first trimester I could barely stomach anything expect plain chicken and vegetables. This made me feel better when later on I just wanted chocolate!

Yeah I'll make sure to follow it, I do tend to drink lucozade alot not the fizzy drink the sport(juice). But obviously got to be careful with the sugar/sweetners as someone has pointed out.

Sometimes I don't even know what i want.

Definitely just focus on NHS list.

If you Google, you can find a website anywhere that says any food is bad/dangerous. part of that is because the safety of some things can vary by country - for example eggs are safe in UK but not in some other places. Part of that is because of junky websites full of nonsense!

Thank you, that list scared me seeing tea on there as past two days I've had a few cups of tea and one coffe 😫🙈

Check out the Tommy's caffeine calculator. I used to have one instant coffee (normal) and a bar of chocolate every day. I tend to only ever drink decaff now, but my first born was born perfectly healthy!

I ended up swapping to dark chocolate with my second PG ax I was eating so much milk chocolate and still craving more. Dark chocolate seemed to scratch that itch

My second child was made almost exclusively from chocolate and crisps.

It's best to just follow what the NHS says. As a PP said, some of the variations in advice by country will be because of differences in food safety/practices.

However, there are some people out there who will say all sorts shouldn't be done in pregnancy, when they're actually perfectly safe. So, it's best to stick to one reliable source of information to make your life easier. It's natural to worry and I think some parts of the internet feed on that. Your midwife (once you get to that point) can give good advice as well.

Generally, a healthy pregnancy diet looks like a normal healthy diet. There's just a few things to watch out for.

On caffeine, the NHS gives a guide to how much caffeine is in coffee, tea etc. I found that helpful in planning my intake.

Yes definitely stick to the NHS guidance, avoid a general Google because you can pretty much find articles telling you every single food is dangerous in pregnancy.

Also this calculator is handy for calculating your daily caffeine intake. Also it's more if you're eating lots of rich dark chocolate where you have to think about the caffeine content in chocolate.

Thank you I really appreciate your help 🙏. I don't really drink tea/coffee much only at my mums. But I won't be seeing her for a while now(both work). I absolutely love lucozade sports at the moment. Really wanted some this morning😂

Google is the worst tl search for things at times 🙈thank you for that. I'm just going to drink water and juice from now on otherwise I'll just end up panicking.

There is absolutely no need to do this. You can have tea and you should if you enjoy drinking it with your DM. There is absolutely no need to avoid tea, just stick to the recommended amount.

If you don't want to do that, how about buying a good quality decaf tea and keeping it at your DM's house for when you're there?

I keep some decaff tea at my parents house as they only drink caffeinated tea. If you don't want to say you're pregnant yet you can just say you're trying to cut down your caffeine intake for a new years resolution/health kick/to see if your sleep improves etc.
