welcome to all the newcomers (i'm still a newcomer myself!)
rain and poppy I had 2 m/c's last April and September just after I started suffering with joint pains, I also had episcleritis and now recently diagnosed with dry eye, these are all syptoms that relate to RA my sister has RA and is on methetrexate, I was tested for this a few years ago when I first had eye problems but the result was negative my joint pains only started after I was tested. after my 2 m/c's I decided to take baby aspirin. when I had my scan at 10wks+4 my midwife asked her supervisor about the BA I was told it was ok to take it up until I am 34 weeks, even though I haven't had an official diagnosis of Ra yet. (I am still suffering with joint pains in my hands and feet, but there not as bad as they were before I was pregnant) Mr GP has been useless, he shrugged his shoulders when I asked if my joint pains were anything to do with the m/c's, he also told me not to take the ba as there wasn't enough research done on it, I have decided to go with the midwife's oppinion and her supervisor, I am currently 17wks+2 and hoping that this little one is ok, I desperately want to feel kicks but am always unsure of any movements that I think I feel, the worry continues even at this stage, really hope that all is well with your pregnancies X
jules really pleased that you have reached 30 wks this time round, will be praying that all is ok for you hun x

poppy27 · 17/05/2008 19:52

emmsy so sorry to hear about your joint pains. I was diagnosed with PA(psoriatic arthritis) over 11 years ago although I hae no psoriasis (but there is a family history of it and my joints became affected in a diagonal not horizontal pattern!) The symptoms are the same though and I have been holding off the methotrexate since deciding to try for a family about 7 years ago.I currently take a host of other meds so thats just yet another thing to worry about whilst pg. I lost my job (medical retirement) through this damn illness and had a massive flare up after ds was born and couldn't pick him up, do poppers on sleepsuits, clips on prams/buggies etc. A very depressing time and without the help of lovely dh and family I would have cracked up. But hey, here we are again only this time everyone knows the risks and my mum is planning to retire when a new gc is born and help me out.
Just a thought but a friends mum has sjorgens (sp) and your symptoms sound a lot like hers. I really hope you feel better soon. Do you think the shock of the mc could have anything to do with poss RA being triggered. Mine came like a bolt out of the blue after a very acrimonious divorce from my exh.
Hope you feel some movement soon - very exciting. I was about 20 wks before I felt the flutters!

Emmsy1 · 17/05/2008 20:20

hi poppy think personal problems with family triggered my symptoms my m/c's were after my joint pains started, I went through a very stressful time just before episcleritis was diagnosed then a month or so later the pains started. I am assuming RA as sister is being treated for it, she has deformities (nodules) on her hands and now her feet have started getting lumps on them hope to god I don't get as bad as her, some days she can't cut her food up or chew it, as really bad pains in her hands and jaw, she is younger than me and it's heart breaking to see her in so much pain. my pains have really been quite ok since pregnant, and I'm hoping that after the birth they stay just the same, a little worried about 'flare up' hoping I can look after my new baby and the other children with out any problems. you take care hun, hope everything is ok for you p.s my mum and little boy suffers from psoriosis, DS has lots of steroid creams, wondering if there's a link?

07mumstheword · 18/05/2008 07:45

KD73 In my opinion once you have had a MC or mulitple MC's the wonder of the miracle and worry of what could happen is so much more prevelant (sp?).
I'm sure I've said this before but my MW told me when I had a scan with this baby at 6 + 1 that if you get a HB at 6 wks then the baby has a 95% + chance of survival. You were a day off 6 wks at your last scan so I'm sure that applies to you too.
I was also told by my GP that 2 MC's were just extremely bad luck, that didn't help at the time but now that I'm 18 wks (today!) I feel a better.
Your work policy sounds unfair Take good care and let us know how your scan goes.

Emmsy & Poppy I'm not sure I understand the details of your conditions but I hope they don't cause you too much discomfort and your little ones are find and dandy in your safe belly's!

KashaSarrasin · 18/05/2008 14:22

Hi everyone

I haven't been on for a few days and haven't caught up yet, but welcome to our new knicker-checkers and hope everyone else is OK!

I've just been discharged from my second hospital stay this pregnancy (now 24+5). I woke up about 2:30am Thursday feeling just really uncomfortable, got up to go to the loo and had a gush of bright red blood. Phoned the hospital, they said to go straight in so had to get DS and DH awake and up. The MW managed to find baby's hb straight away with the doppler which was a relief. I was admitted and the bleeding continued for about 12 hours before settling down, but I was also having quite strong but painless Braxton-Hicks contractions which was really freaking me out! Plus I lost some of my mucous plug - but I think this was probably due to the doc vigorously searching for my cervix (apparently AWOL) during an internal . Had an ultrasound on Friday morning that showed baby is OK and spot-on size for dates , but that the clot that was there after my mega-bleed at 18 weeks has changed shape (?!) and is now definitely on the edge of my placenta, but slightly smaller than my last scan a month ago. They think it was the clot coming away a bit that caused the bleed.

It's actually a relief to finally know what's been causing the bleeding - in fact the last 6 weeks have been the longest bleed-free stretch of this pregnancy. The doctors want to keep a close eye on me and I'll have to have another scan in 10 weeks to make sure baby is still measuring OK and placenta functioning well (which it seems to be at the moment).

All this bleeding is really doing my head in Most of the doctors are really reassuring that the baby, at least at the moment, isn't at any risk as the placenta is functioning OK, but the fact that the bleeding seemed to be triggering the BH contractions this time has got me so scared that I'll have another bleed that will trigger early labour. I know it's good news that the clot is at the edge of the placenta instead of in the middle but each bleed is making me more and more scared - it seems I've got so far with this pg but there's so far still to go - another 3.5 months! I'm turning into a complete nervous wreck

tryingnottoobsess · 18/05/2008 15:33

Blimey what a nightmare Kasha. I'm so happy for you that things are looking good, but I can't imagine the stress you've been through in the last few days.

And like you said, time passes so slowly when you're worrying. And constant worry is exhausting. I really wish you all the best, you certainly deserve a break from the pressure.

By the way Kasha, thanks for your suggestion earlier in the week of getting bloods done. After that I went to my GP to ask for bloods, and she actually said that at 5+4 I can have scan and bloods, and my appointment is tomorrow. Can't come quick enough.

splishsplosh · 18/05/2008 15:45

Kasha - sounds like you've had an awful time, it must be so stressful.

At least now you're in the "viable baby" stage, and every day that goes by gives your baby more chance of making it if your fear of going into early labour came true, but hopefully that won't be the case, and everything will settle down - I guess the fact that they're planning a scan in 10 weeks sounds like the drs aren't anticipating any immediate problem. Fingers and toes all crossed for you

Janus · 18/05/2008 16:21

Hello everyone, just to let you know that Tilly arrived safe and well on Friday morning after less than 2 hours at the hospital. Tilly was a wonderfully straightforward birth (dd was c-section, dd2 forceps), fantastic not to be nursing stitches!!
It's a very emotional experience having a baby after a mc, I have just been for a walk with dp and my other 2 daughters and Tilly in the pram and was in tears thinking how often I thought I wouldn't get here, it's amazing.
So, hang on in there everyone, the 40 weeks does eventually go and good luck for goingfor3, I think you're next!

splishsplosh · 18/05/2008 16:24

Congratulations Janus, and welcome to Tilly, so glad that the birth went smoothly and quickly!

Congratulations janus on baby tilly. Lovely to hear everything went well.

kash thanks for the welcome and so sorry to hear what a scary time you have been having. Hope the next 3.5 months fly past safely for you.

justjules sounds like you had good fun at the baby show. Enjoy dinner and have a good rest after all that hard work shopping.

Emmsy1 · 18/05/2008 20:30

a big congratulations janus on the birth of tilly, I am glad that the labour didn't cause you too much distress, especially since you have previously had a forceps and a c/sec delivery (not to mention your m/c)well done you!
Kasha thanks for the welcome, think I remember you from another thread? Sorry you have had a rough time of it lately, glad to hear that your beanie is ok, and I know it's not going to stop you from worrying, but as splishsplosh said, at least your in the "viable baby stage" now. Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly, sounds as though you have already been through too much good luck hun! x
07mtw thanks for your kind words, I'm sure this little one will be a fighter, although I'm sure I will relax more when I start to feel some definate movements, how's your pregnancy going,I have just started to get bad heart burn, doesn't seem to matter what I eat, it started last night and I have had it alot today, think I will have to buy some gaviscon or something else that can help ease it.

KashaSarrasin · 18/05/2008 22:48

Congratulations Janus and welcome Tilly! I'm so glad to hear you had a better birth experience this time

Emmsy yes I remember you from the MC Avengers thread! Congratulations on your new pregnancy

JJ those chairs are really comfy - definitely a good buy!

07mumstheword · 19/05/2008 08:50

Good morning everyone hope you are all well

Kasha What an awful time of it you've been having. The doctors and MW are clearly keeping a close eye on you and a 10 wk wait for the next scan is good news in a way as they don't think there is immediate problems.

Janus Congratualtions and welcome to Tilly (what a lovely name) I'm impressed you were out walking after just 2 days of giving birth

Justjules your day yesterday sounds lovely, made me feel all warm and glowy (sp?)

Emmsy My PG is going well thanks but I do worry. I think I'm feeling the flutterings now (18 wks) so hopefully they will get stronger over the next couple of wks to really put my mind at rest. I'm getting Heartburn too especially at night when I lie down, my friends got Gaviscon on prescription from the doctor but I tend to just pop a couple of Rennie's.

Tryingnotto Good luck with your appointment today.

ladyhelen2 · 19/05/2008 09:24

Morning ladies,
Am signing up to this thread as I got a BFP on THursday evening last week. I've had 2 mcs in last year. The last one was Feb 20th. I have one DS who will be 3 in a month. Prior to his arrival I had 2 mcs.
I am keeping everything crossed that this one is a stayer. Looks like this thread is the place to be for me. I'll do a full read later on.

ronshar · 19/05/2008 10:13

Janus. Fantastic news. I love the name Tilly.

rainrain · 19/05/2008 10:24

Hi everyone, gosh it has been a busy weekend on here!

I have still not taken the aspirin, but agree with you Jules, I think I might just take it now and again to put my mind at rest...
So far have not been in too much of a panic, as the baby has been moving like a nutter the past couple of days!

Those of you on BA - do you know if there are any implications at birth, due to having "thinned blood" (sorry if i sound ignorant, but have been wondering this), i mean you are not likely to experience worse bleeding or something?

Kasha what a terrible time you have been having. Sending you lots of hugs... I am sure everything will turn out fine, as others have said, if it was really awful they would be keeping you in, so the docs must think that there is every chance of it being ok.x

Janus CONGRATS! What a lovely name, and fantastic news . So nice to hear of all these successful births after so much heartache.

ladyhelen congrats on your BFP - you are def. in the right place to air your worries!

Hi everyone else!

Congratulations Janus and pleased the birth went well I also like the name Tilly!
Kasha What a worrying time for you, but hopefully you'll have an uneventful lead-up to the birth now. At least you're being closely monitored, and if the dr felt there was something to worry about he'd have called you back sooner for a scan. Hope you can rest and relax a bit now...
Welcome ladyhelen - congratulations on your pregnancy You're definitely in the right place here. This thread has been a lifeline to me since I got my BFP, especially in the early weeks. I'm now 17 weeks and waiting to feel some movements...
Hope everybody else is OK.

poppy27 · 19/05/2008 11:40

Morning everyone
Congratulations ladyhelen on your BFP. This is a great place to be as I can do all my worrying here and try to stay calm the rest of the time!!!

trying hope it goes well at your hosp appt today.

I am now 7 weeks and have thankfully had no more spotting since last week but am still obsessively checking. Felt quite sick on sat and couldn't believe how happy that made me feel. Just glad to feel any symptoms at all.

ladyhelen2 · 19/05/2008 11:55

Thank you for your lovely welcome. You all seem like a lovely bunch!

I am worrying worrying worrying. Knicker checking every hour, and worry about every niggle I can feel. I know that you ladies won't think that is odd!

I've just booked an early scan at my EPU. I will be 8 weeks when they do it. They are very good and will allow a self referral. But I am apprehensive about it. I want to know all is ok but last time I had an early scan at 7 weeks. THere was a hb, but I then mc at 9 weeks.

A MC sucks the joy out of pregnancy doesn't it?

rainrain · 19/05/2008 12:02

Lady helen you are not wrong there! Just remember to tell yourself every day "TODAY i am pregnant". It is all you can do, and although it is hard I know, try to relax as much as you can, take your mind off it where possible. I think stress has a lot to answer for!!

poppy27 · 19/05/2008 12:07

You are right ladyhelen a mc does take away any excitement you may want to feel. When I was preg 6years ago with ds I was so happy and excited as I had never had a mc at that point and although the idea it could happen was there it wasn't overwhelming. I had a bleed during that pg at about 12 weeks and was scanned and relieved to be told all was well and that was the only time.
This pg is a diff ball game since mc in feb I am constantly worrying over every twinge, lack of ms etc. and after spotting last week I seem to have gone into knickercheck overdrive. I keep trying to tell myself there is nothing I can do and the outcome is out of my control but it is cold comfort.
