lackaDAISYcal · 14/05/2008 16:23

perky, I've hired a doula as well as I'm hoping to have a VBA2C....she says optimistically

OP posts:
perkypopsy · 14/05/2008 16:34

wots one of them (VBA2C)??
Need details on your doula - am meeting one this weekend - seems very expensive (£700!)

barbareebaa · 14/05/2008 16:42

hello!
How is everyone today?
Doulas sound like a good idea. DH has already expressed doubt about being present at birth!!
Methinks he has v. little choice!!

jennylindinha · 14/05/2008 17:12

Hello ladies,

Just wanted to say hi and join your thread, although I wish I'd found out about mumsnet weeks ago when I was going through the worst of the mc paranoia!

Had an mc at 10 weeks last June, whilst at Glastonbury festival of all places - big shock to both me and DP. Took a while to get through it and I'm sure you guys all know about that. Found out I was pg in January, even though we hadn't officially started trying again ! I'm now 20+3 and feeling a lot more secure...

NatalieJane, reading your posts reminds me how I was feeling throughout the whole first trimester! It's so easy to get superstitious and think you might jinx things if you think positively, but try not to let it get you down. I had some bleeding at 6 weeks and totally panicked but am lucky to have a EPU just up the road so we rushed in there and after hours of anxious waiting were told that everything was fine and saw the heartbeat etc. Such a relief. If the worry gets too much then I would try and go for a scan if there is a unit near you. If you've already had an mc they are usually sympathetic.

The 12 week scan really helps to set your mind at rest, although you never quite get rid of all the worries...

Poppy, wishing you all the best. I hope things work out ok and my thoughts are with you.

Sorry for the long post guys!

barbareebaa · 14/05/2008 17:39

hi Jenny!

Nice to meet you! Congrats on your pg! I'm just over 14 weeks and starting to look ahead now. I had a mc 5 years ago (in scarborough on a school trip of all things!!) and it took this long to convince dh that it was a good idea to try again!!

Oops - how rude of me - hi nataliejane, Poppy, perkypopsy and Daisy

jennylindinha · 14/05/2008 17:59

Thanks Barbara and congrats to you too!
5 years is a long time to wait to try again, so I hope you are enjoying the pregnancy.

I've just found out about doulas, but DP will be there with me and he is enough to cope with . Too much sideline support/advice and I'll probably just run away. I'm sure your DH will change him mind once it is all happening!

Perky I think a VBAC is a vaginal birth after caesarian...

Gosh, I always end up posting at the end of the day and then realise that nearly everyone has gone home! I'm off home now too, so goodnight all.

lackaDAISYcal · 14/05/2008 18:03

hi jenny and welcome to the thread cngrats on your pregnancy. You must be feeling much more relaxed now. Have you had your 20 weeks scan yet?

OP posts:
lackaDAISYcal · 14/05/2008 18:27

Perky, it is vaginal birrth after c-section, or in my case after two c-sections

We're paying £500 here, but things are much cheaper in the grim up north . £500 seems to be the going rate around these parts though. Check out www.doula.co.uk, or talk to Marslday on here (start a thread and she'll find you). she is a qualified doula and is in London, so will have an idea of going rates down there.

In the £500, she is on call for two weeks before and two weeks after the my due date adn will be with me from when I go into laboour until the baby is out. It also includes two AN and one PN visit. She is also available on the telephone or by e-mail from now until I've had the baby.

Hello again!

I wondered if anyone could tell me when your tummy starts to show? I'm starting to worry that I should have a tummy (or the start of one) I'm 14+3. My tummy sticks out more when I've had my tea than it did before but then it goes away again!! My trousers are a bit tight! Am I just being impatient?

Thanks Jenny totally love being pregnant! Actually think dh probably will be there (but he did suggest I ask my best mate as well just in case!!!) He is a superstar tho' so whatever happens will be super cool!

cricri · 14/05/2008 19:55

Welcome Jenny and congratulations on your pregnancy It gives me hope to hear that you're feeling more secure at 20 weeks... I'm currently 15+4.
Barbareeba We had a discussion about bumps on the Due in November AN thread a couple of days ago and some people have distinct bumps already, whereas others just feel as though they look as if they've been at the pies It doesn't seem to be linked to whether or not it's your first DC or not either, although those who are second, third and fourth timers were showing much earlier. In my case my trousers have been tight since about 10 weeks, and in the past two weeks I've given up and gone into maternity trousers - much more comfortable even if I do keep having to hitch them up! My bump seems to grow as the day goes on as well - at the moment it's really noticeable but by tomorrow morning it will have subsided again. I've been told we should enjoy these weeks when we can still see our toes and get to sleep comfortably! I know what you mean about being impatient though - I want to look properly pregnant
I've been following the doula comments with interest as I'm also thinking of hiring one and am meeting one prospective doula in a couple of weeks.
Hello to everyone else

lackaDAISYcal · 14/05/2008 20:01

just echoing what cricri is saying barbareeba.

with my first, I don't think I had a proper starter bump much until around 18 weeks (my tummy muscles were in much better condition back then!!). with DD I was in maternity trousers (albeit in the smallest setting at about 14 weeks.

with this one, I've had my maternity trousers on since about 9 weeks , but I'm hardly in great shape.

try not to worry....you'll be fed up with it soon enough

OP posts:
barbareebaa · 14/05/2008 20:05

Thanks Cricri! I am just so looking forward to having a little bump!

barbareebaa · 14/05/2008 20:09

OOps - didn't see your post there, Daisy, til mine popped in! Thanks for that. I'm just going to have to be patient aren't I

jennylindinha · 14/05/2008 20:39

Hello again, I couldn't resist logging in now I'm at home!

Cheers Daisy, I've not had my 20 week scan yet, in fact is isn't for another 3 weeks, yikes! The 12 week one went really well so perhaps they just pushed it back a bit. I can't wait to see the baby again, it has been so active today, a real mule!

Barbareebaa I have only just started showing but the bump seems to get bigger by the end of the day, so I guess that's just lunch . People at work keep asking me where the baby is! I guess one day I will wake up and it will be massive.

Thanks Crici I am feeling more secure now and hope you are too. How was your 12 week scan? I'm feeling much more relaxed now and am loving being pregnant!

goingfor3 · 15/05/2008 12:33

07mumstheword huge congratulatuions - 17 weeks is fantastic!!!

Janus Any news???

38 weeks today and feeling and looking huge, my bump gorws massively every night at the moment and the school mums have great delight in telling me. I'm making the most of feeling proud of my large belly as soon it will be a jelly like mess I want no one to notice!

rainrain · 15/05/2008 13:38

Hello to all the new girls, and best of luck and vibes for your pregnancies.

And hi to all the regulars!

Had 21 weeks scan today and all is fine and dandy. Can't find out the sex (they don't do it here) and dying to know! Guess I will have to wait. Also saw the consultant as have been on aspirin since the beginning, but he has told me to stop as reckons there is no need for it now....

Getting a massive belly too - everyone seems really surprised when I say it is due end September and no chance of people not noticing now....Reckon I am looking much bigger than I should!

tryingnottoobsess · 15/05/2008 14:40

Afternoon! Congrats rainrain on your successful scan, and at all you ladies with your expanding bellies, I can't wait until I experience that!

Went to the doc this morning because I'm still spotting. After moaning about our docs in other posts, she was amazing - really helpful and kind, and didn't make me feel like a nutter for bothering her as early as 5w.

She has booked me for a scan on Mon. Not sure if there'll be anything to see at 5.5w, but it feels like I'm being taken care of, and that's really nice. Roll on Monday.

Hope everyone's feeling healthy and well today, Poppy, how are you doing today?

rainrain · 15/05/2008 15:11

Good luck with Monday's scan trying. Hope they will see enough to put your mind at rest at least, but try not to give up hope if they don't - from what I have read on this thread it is v. early, and sometimes stuff gets spotted after. Anyway, everything crossed for you x

TwilightSurfer · 15/05/2008 16:17

Tryingnottoobesess in my profile pics is my 5+2 scan which shows a tiny dot. You can see more than you think early on.

tryingnottoobsess · 15/05/2008 16:56

Twilight, I hadn't discovered profiles before - what a gorgeous daughter you have! And so nice to see your little dot at 5+2 - thanks for the encouragment. Do you mind me asking the reason you had the 5+2 scan?

Thanks rainrain. I can't imagine Monday's scan will be 100% either way, as they seem to measure the development between 2 scans at our place, but it's a start.

poppy27 · 15/05/2008 17:16

Hi trying glad you got a good doc today, it makes all the difference if you feel they care about your feelings. I hope your scan on mon goes well and puts your mind at ease. I had a letter today from my gp asking me to make an appt. with them re the letter from the epu visit on Mon. I haven't had any more spotting since yest and am praying things are still ok. I just hate the feeling of being out of control and unable to do anything to make things ok.

Congrats rainrain on your scan going well. Lovely to hear. Were you on the asprin for clotting reasons if you don't mind me asking. I had a blood test for lupus anticoagulant about 6 weeks ago at our local hosp. and so far the results seem to be unavailable. My rheumatologist thought it may be worth checking out in case that was the reason for my mc in feb.

rainrain · 15/05/2008 18:39

Hi Poppy. I was referred to consultant for investigation after my last 3 pregnancies ended in m/c (at 7 weeks, 9 weeks and 12 weeks). They did a bunch of tests for clotting etc, but all came up negative. There was one they "forgot" (!) to do for anticardiolipids (which i think is a different sort of clotting thing? Actually I don't know what it is but one of the standard tests on recurrent m/c investigation).

At the time they said "you can try 75mg aspirin when you get pregnant again, it might help and it won't hurt". I was not on a clinical trial or anything, but the GP confirmed it was a good idea to try based on the consultant discharge letter.

So will never know if it has made a medical difference, but something has gone right this time (so far...still check knickers every time i go to the loo though must admit - sure will be doing that till the end).

TwilightSurfer · 15/05/2008 19:47

Tryingnottoobesess, I don't mind your question at all. I miscarried at 10 weeks then conceived 15 days later so I earned special treatment with loads of scans in the beginning. My doctor didn't officially record my pregnancy as a viable pregnancy until after the 8 week scan. It's all been pretty textbook though. Only 13 more worry weeks to go. Best wishes to you for a exciting scan on Monday.

tryingnottoobsess · 16/05/2008 09:31

Oh I see Twilight, makes sense now, remembering the notes on your profile. How mad to try for a long time for the 1st pg, then get pg again right after your mc. Congrats on having a successful pg this time though.

Thanks Poppy, hope your spotting is holding off again today.

rainrain, I can't belive they forgot a test! That's ridiculous. I had just been referred for tests for clotting etc when I got my BFP, and thought about self medicating with baby asprin, but thought I better not in the end!

ronshar · 16/05/2008 10:37

Yipee for all the new ladies. You can jon us in the loony bin.

20 weeks today. 20 weeks today. Half way there and still no bump! Great, I am hoping for another small weight gain. I have a wedding to go to in December so I shall be breast feeding every half and hour to get that tummy flat again. Well back to where it was before this baby. My tummy hasn't been flat for years.
