Welcome to kd73 and barbareeba. Wishing you both happy and uneventful pregnancies and glad you found us Unfortunately mc does colour your view of subsequent pregnancies - I'm now 13 weeks and have only just started to relax (a bit) following my dating and NT scans last week. I did find having an early scan at 7 weeks helped to reassure me. I had to go private but you may be able to get your GP to refer you.
Makecakes Two weeks... Where does the time go? Hope you can hold on until DH comes back!
Splish I know what you mean about just feeling podgier... I was hoping for a nice neat bump but it doesn't seem to be happening yet!
Jules I'm no expert but I think that can happen in later pregnancy. It's just your body's way of getting ready for baby's arrival

ronshar · 28/04/2008 12:08

Excellent Jules. I am famous for my leaking boobs. I had to wear breast pads for ages before my DD2 turned up. I ruined the mattress with DD1. I also noticed on Saturday that I am getting that telltale tingling in my nipples already. I dont mind but 17weeks!!
Get the breast pads ready and start wearing a bra in bed.

It also means YOU ARE HAVING A BABY JULES. Yipee.

You may need to wear a bra in bed Jules to contain the breast pads which will prevent you drowning in milk.
This is the beginning of your body no longer being anything other than a feeding station for a small mouth. Which hurts like hell for at least the first week. The midwives never tell you that little gem. It is one of the reasons so many women give up Breast feeding. Because it is like having knives stuck through your nipples.
On the bright side though. It soon gets better and then you can feed anytime you like and not get off sofa/out of bed.
I feed both DDs it is fantastic. Just stick with for at least 7days and you will be fin4e.

I'm really sorry. I didnt mean to upset you. I have found the whole breast feeding thing hard work to be honest.
Whan I had my first child I wasnt given any advice help or anything. So I just got on with it. It was better with DD2 but I knew through experience then.
It is the best feeling when you are sitting down in the middle of the night and it is all silent. It is just you and your baby. Nothing like it. But If I had know about the pain I may have been better prepared for it.

I shall not mention it ever again Jules I promise.

Have a lovely lunch with your mum.
Oh you are a lady who lunches now

makecakesnotwar · 28/04/2008 13:40

Ronshar- what other pearls of wisdom do you have on bf-ing? Whilst I don't like the idea of pain, I do want to breastfeed...will just get Jules to leave the room for a while.

Jules- have been wearing bras to bed since the early days. Firstly because my boobs were so sore I thought I was going to die and then because I read about it helping prevent post-baby sag, and then because I have giant boobs and now because I am so used to it. Haven't yet started leaking. And must buy feeding bras....[MC toddles off to look up such things on the interweb]

splishsplosh · 28/04/2008 14:51

Makecakes - re bf, best advice is to get as much support as you can. There's usually a bf counsellor you can visit - when I had dd, a few people at the NCT discussion group saw someone, I think at Beckenham hospital, and said how fab she was and how much it helped. mw & hvs aren't always the best. And if you really want to do it, then a bit of perseverance & determination is needd.
I got loads of help in hospital before dd was d/c, but still was difficult when I got home - she only fed off 1 boob for a week - had to express from other & used to take ages to get her to latch on properly, but on plus side, I never found it hurt.
Still going strong 2 years later though

DonDons · 28/04/2008 15:20

Hi ladies! Thank you all for your lovely comments. I really don't know how I would have got through this without all of your support - you are all stars. And welcome to the new ladies too - healthy and well y'all.

Now, first things first, matters of boobs. I was absolutley petrified of breast feeding and never thought I would do it but Amelie had other ideas - she latched on within 5 minutes of being passed to me,without any encouragement from me at all. Admittedly it is a bit sore now but is starting to ease of and the MW says it will be alot better by next week(but the knives in boob analogy is a brilliant description - sorry to say!).

So yeah, as you heard, my waters were broken 'accidentally' on Thursday morning at my 41 week check up! The consultant was about to discuss induction with us and was giving me a sweep - she said I was 3cm dilated so all that really needed to happen was for my waters to break. So I asked if she could not just break them now and she (almost literally)clicked her fingers and said 'oh look, your waters have just broken. Labour ward for you my girl...'

We were sent to labour ward at 10.45 and basically sat for 12 hours until a delivery suite became free (v busy day in Sheff last Thursday apparently). About 11pm they started me on the induction drugs and I managed 4 hours on gas and air (bloody good stuff I have to say) but was in total agony by 3am when they checked me again. I was distraught to find I was only 4 cm to had an epidural. 8 hours later they said I could start to push, which I did for an hour and a half but with no feeling from the boobs down it was bloody hard work. Eventually the MW went to get the registrar to examine me. She took one look and said, this baby is in the wrong position, you need a c-section. 20 minutes later at 14.56 Amelie was out!

So a but traumatic but totally worth it in the end (oh and DH enjoyed the gas and air too - daft chuff)

Discharged last night after 2 days which was brilliant so can't stop from ear to ear.

Phew - that was a long post!

lackaDAISYcal · 28/04/2008 16:21

congrats again dondons. shame things ended in a c-section, but I think that is always over-ruled by the safe arrival of your baby.

Well done on the BFing . And don't hesitate to shout if you need any advice. www.kellymom.com is fantastic as is hunkermunkers www.howbreastfeedingworks.com. the pain on latching will ease up soon, then it's just so so easy; no faffing around wiht bottles etc, just grab the baby, a couple of nappies and off you go.

I had a baby!

And dondons has had one too! Lovely name dondons and loads and loads of congrats xxx

She is called Molly Eloise and is sooooooo beautiful thanks for your messages.

I am fine, tired and teary at times but I love her heaps and she is so very worth it! BF is murder but am persevering, am sure will get easier soon and she is very healthy so is good. Birth all normal - had an epidural as found out am complete wuss with very low pain threashold! Was begging for it by time was 4cm dilated . Meant that by time came to push though I wasn't tired and it was a really short delivery - 45 mins, and was a lovely positive time.

Molly is fine, they thought she might be jaundiced but she wasn't after all, and we have been home for a few days. Is very tiring but I just keep looking at her, even when I am incredibly tired, and think 'oh my goodness she's so wonderful!'

Sorry for gushing, hope all well. Anyone else had a baby that I need to know about?

I will put piccies up in a mo x

makecakesnotwar · 28/04/2008 17:26

I never knew BF was as painful as that - noone ever says do they?
had a bit of a wierd day - I work in a school with a student with learning disabilities. She made like she was going to slap my tummy today, but stopped before making contact. yikes. I don't need to be worrying about that happening.
