Thought I'd make a new thread before the old one filled up completely.

Into the second trimester and beyond 😊

I'm on prescription painkillers and a heap of other meds. I've seen two midwives, 2 EPU doctors, my obstetrician and the consultant who did my 12 week scan (where she said baby looked likely to be a boy). Not one has told me not to take paracetamol and most of them have suggested I take it if needed. The pharmacist who gave me my flu and Covid jabs (same time, same arm) also said I could take paracetamol if I had a very sore arm or had a headache/temp etc.

Some people do seem to delight in worrying pregnant women unfortunately and sounds like you encountered one of them.

Faithincats · 22/12/2023 21:50

Belated thanks to @oop @VJ88 and @DemelzaRobins for your thoughts on sleeping positions! 🙏 I have my 16 week midwife appt on the 29th so will be interested to see if she mentions it...

Also 13 weeks and feeling like I'm going to be nauseous/vomiting forever 😕

Hi ladies joining this thread now, so glad I've found people I can talk about everything with! After 2 previous losses I haven't told anyone yet apart from my employer. I have a due date 29 June

I'm 13 weeks, I also have terrible nausea, thought I'd managed to avoid most of it but the past 2 weeks it's really ramped up. I'm retching at the thought of food and it's a real struggle deciding on what to eat. I seem to be living off wheatabix, tuna crunch sandwiches, polo's and lemonade. Oh and mashed potato. Just awful honestly. They're the only things I can keep down. Dr wasn't that concerned when I told her. Been prescribed cyclizine but it's actually making me dizzy so I stopped taking. I've heard it tends to ease off around 16 weeks so I'm living in hope 🙃

Hi ladies. For those doing the pelvic floor exercises - the Squeezy app by NHS is reaally good. Very user-friendly and simple, it can send you reminders if you need. It’s only 3 euro

Ad12345678 · 23/12/2023 19:40

Also - anyone on 40mg of omeprazole? I wonder if you can do it in pregnancy. I’m on 20mg but it seems to not work as well as before for the last few days…

babyp2024 · 28/12/2023 09:15

we have our private 16 week gender scan on saturday, i was wondering is this a scan you need a full bladder for? does anyone know?

thanks

LavenderJoy · 29/12/2023 11:32

@babyp2024 I had mine yesterday and they said an empty bladder.

I found out I'm having a little boy 💙 my nub theory obviously wasn't correct 😆

babyp2024 · 29/12/2023 11:51

@LavenderJoy thank you, i might go with a full bladder as i'm having mixed responses and the website says full bladder 😂at least i can empty it rather than need to fill it!
congratulations!! that's lovely news! xx

Wheeeeee · 29/12/2023 12:51

When I went for my 12 week scan there was a sign up saying to come to all scans with a full bladder. But I'm sure in my last pregnancy I was told no need for a full bladder for scans after 12 weeks so 🤷🏼‍♀️ I was going to take the same approach for my 20 week scan - easier to empty a bladder than fill it!

LavenderJoy · 29/12/2023 17:56

@babyp2024 yes that's true i was suprised when they said empty bladder, as usually they say a full bladder for an abdominal scan.

Suchardchoccy · 29/12/2023 21:19

I know it's early days but is anyone planning on having a home birth?

I know it's early days but is anyone planning on having a home birth?

I'm not decided yet but I am giving it some thought. To be honest I'd prefer to be in the MLU, but I laboured very fast with my first and they say subsequent births are often faster, and part of me is thinking I'd rather have a planned home birth than give birth halfway to hospital 😬

MorningsideMaisie · 30/12/2023 07:19

Hey everyone, hope you all had a nice Christmas! We are going to find out the sex at the 20 week scan, really looking forward to knowing more about this wee baby in Feb. I think the best approach is to go with a relatively full bladder (I previously got told off for it being too full as I’d actually drunk the advised 1.5L and was bursting so the baby was miles from the surface!).

I’m 14 weeks now and the nausea and fatigue of the first trimester has pretty much passed, thank god! Have started having some round ligament pains (most notably after stuffing myself on Christmas dinner) and some hip pain when walking for extended periods. Planning to start swimming and pregnancy yoga in the new year to strengthen up and get back some degree of fitness.

6 months till due date! We got some presents for the baby from the in-laws and it was very sweet but surreal. Going to make a plan for house jobs that we need to do and baby stuff we need to buy so we can spread it over the next few months, rather than my usual last-minute panicking!

bravinglife · 30/12/2023 07:57

@Suchardchoccy I am thinking about it but haven’t spoken to my midwife yet 🙂

Hotmalibu94 · 30/12/2023 08:08

@MorningsideMaisie 😂 same! I was told to go do a 'half wee' 😂 my bad. To be fair they told me to drink 500ml 1hr before and I drank double that 😂
We also need to make a list and start spreading the cost! This is my plan for tomorrow, Im going to compile several lists together I think and see what commonly comes up as actually needed, I don't want to buy crap we will never use.

If anyone has a good list of stuff people actually used please let me know! 😁

Wheeeeee · 30/12/2023 08:27

@Hotmalibu94 off the top of my head here are some things we found really useful (other than obvious things like clothes, nappies, pram, car seat) with our first:

Soft sling - was invaluable as DS was really content in it
Next to me crib - brilliant for easy night time breastfeeding - might be less useful if you're bottle feeding and need to get up for the bottle anyway?
Baby bath - didn't think we'd love it as much as we did but it made bathtime sooo much easier
Bath thermometer - because I was neurotic about getting it too hot!
Cloth wipes - much more effective than disposables and hopefully better for the environment
Sleeping bag suitable for newborns - lots of them aren't good until baby is a certain weight but having one as early as possible was great for us as our wriggler used to kick his blankets off constantly
Muslins - so many muslins
Nail file - tiny nails are surprisingly scratchy
Monitor - although we didn't use this until after 6 months as baby was basically with us at all times before that!

Hotmalibu94 · 30/12/2023 09:20

@Wheeeeee thank you that's super helpful!

Ad12345678 · 30/12/2023 11:37

Hi ladies, please keep safe. I managed to get a flu somewhere and ended up in ER when oral paracetamol really struggled to bring the fever down. They were brilliant - relieved my swollen and very itchy nose, brought the temperature down and topped me up with liquids. Plus a scan which was so nice. I have been vaccinated so recovery should be easier. I’m glad I decided to get help instead of just “having rest”, the treatment helped so much.
Side question - if you had flu in your previous pregnancies, how was the baby afterwards? Thank you 🙏

DanisEndo · 30/12/2023 15:05

@MorningsideMaisie I’m the same stage! 14 weeks and finding out in mid feb :) also got some lovely baby gifts for Christmas for family which has made me feel like there’s so much to do aha.
what do you have on your house list?
ours is defo: deep clean and clear out, empty the spare room/nursery to be, sort the office out to fit two desks in, have our driveway done, new sofa, ….. and on and on it goes. I feel like everything needs doing plus saving for being off on maternity.

VJ88 · 30/12/2023 16:17

Hi everyone, has anyone bought a waist extender yet? In hoping I can use something like that instead of buying new maternity jeans and am looking for recommendations if anyone has them! Thank you

Not yet but I'm now 18 weeks and fear my days of fitting into my normal jeans are now limited!

My midwife says there's a hack you can do with an elastic hair bobble to extend your jeans but I've yet to look into it properly.

I didn't realise you could buy extenders for normal jeans, I was just planning on buying some jeans in the next size up initially and accepting they will be baggy on my legs. I'm wedded to my skinny jeans though so am very tempted by the extenders!

Beeeceee · 31/12/2023 06:18

I’m so glad you asked this! This has literally been my focus all week. I’m leaning towards a home water birth. Im a first time mum and hoping that as long as me and baby are both healthy I’ll be able to deliver at home.

I’m trying to research if I can get a doula or birth keeper alongside my midwife if I take that route.

Suchardchoccy · 31/12/2023 21:04

Yes I am considering a home birth this time with my third but I'm scared haha

Catson · 31/12/2023 21:51

@VJ88 I've been out of normal jeans since 6 weeks, went to a size bigger for a fortnight then maternity jeans ever since 🙈 vinted have some food sellers with bundle deals on for jeans. I love my h&m ones

VJ88 · 31/12/2023 21:56

@Catson I usually wear my jeans quite baggy but they're definitely running out of room quite quickly now! I've found an extender thing with four different sizes which was only £16, so I'm hoping that means I can keep using my normal jeans for as long as possible. Also did get a few dresses from vinted
